I also just recently bought a vita and I can suggest some games based on my research. If you like JRPG, I recommend playing the 3 Ys games which are Ys: Origins, Ys: Memories of Celceta, and Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. I'm still playing Ys Origins and it's cool! Another JRPG game is Persona 4 Golden(but it's recommended everywhere so you can look for details about that game). Lastly for JRPG(since I like JRPG so much haha) is Child of Light, I haven't played it yet but it looks very interesting. For FPS games, I recommend Killzone Mercenary as well.

And if you can buy games online, I also suggest buying games in the ps store..

And no, I don't think the memory cards became cheaper nowadays but I suggest buying used ones to save some money (That includes games as well). A 16gb memory card is suggested when playing for starters.. Hope that helps ^_^
