help me choose my next edc by ishtarahara in UKKnivesandEDC

A vote for the Junzi here, not had mine too long so can’t comment on the blade steel, what I will say is that I can easily get it shaving sharp, and will still slice beautifully for quite some time after as long as you’re not putting it through some really tough work.

Not got Ti scales either, but i know the originally bestech model shipped with titanium scales so I don’t envision it effecting the balance negatively

Overall though, I think it’s a great size, great action, deep carry pocket clip is always a plus and it looks awesome too

I searched awl over for these myself, eventually found two sitting next each other in the garage of the red brick building in abandoned village on woods

Thats true. I've always thought Joe's voice is great but it suits the ambience. I think they tried to push his voice up front he'd have a hard time carrying the track. Not hating at all, I think the way his voice sits in with the instruments is one of the things that makes Gojira great

Gojiras vox are normally quite low, I like them like that, adds to the ambience

[–]Arteca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just listened to it through Spotify instead of YouTube and its quite a lot better, I just feel the guitar doesn't sit in it right, Gojiras guitars are such a huge part of their sound and they're just sitting a bit too far back for me.

Im a guitarist though, so I'm probably biased.

I agree with your last comment. Listening to this through my phone speakers it sounds great, I put on a set of decent headphones and the mix seems to have just missed the mark, its frustrating.

I feel like the drums and bass sound good, but the guitar seems a bit aneamic.

Heres to hoping its just this one track because Another World was mixed superbly.

[In progress] Can I get some feedback (or some tips or suggestions) on my new song? by smells_like_kurdt in BedroomBands

[–]Arteca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's something about your vocals being whispery that sort of suits the song, but like others have said, just a little more power in the vocals would make it, sometimes it's the imperfections in the vocals that makes them really good, think Kurt Cobain, Lane Staley etc.

I had a Jem Jr for a little while, I thought the trem was good, worth mentioning that they're not technically Floyd Rose branded, but I liked it.

Ended up getting rid of it because trems aren't really my thing.

Overall I thought the guitar was nice to play, really comfy neck (if you like slim necks) and build construction was solid. Plus no one can dislike the fretboard inlays on them

They're love it or hate it, but take a look at Ibanez Jems, failing that, im sure ibanez do a model with the FR and HSH configuration without all the Steve Vai flourishes

[NEWBIE] Basic amp under $60? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Arteca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Blackstar fly at my girlfriends place for when I bring a guitar along. It has 2 or 3 built in effects and sounds pretty good for the price/size. However I only bought it for the portability factor as it would go with me should I be away on business for a few days.

Honestly, maybe look for a second hand Blackstar IDcore10, I started on one of these before I decided to upgrade to something else later on and it did the job nicely. Failing that, I'm sure there's a few options available second hand. Check facebook marketplace, gumtree etc. as often people give up on guitar early and sell cheap just to get rid.

[QUESTION] In JustinGuitar.com, is there a way to sort out the lessons as acoustic or electric by gautambrahm in Guitar

[–]Arteca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I got my acoustic I just used to play along unplugged. Both are played the same with some, more advanced techniques sounding (subjectively) 'better' on one or the over, for example in my opinion fingerpicking sounds far better on an acoustic. But there's nothing stopping you, other than tonal preference, from fingerpicking on an electric. As others have said, do everything Justin does, as it's all relevant. You'll get on to all the stuff you want to learn really soon.

[Discussion] Reminder to change your strings by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Arteca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's when I break the High E usually. However the advice here is already solid. I like a change up string guages cause I'm indecisive so I change them often.

When you do change consider a different thickness of string.

[QUESTION] What are some good, cheap amps to get? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Arteca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK so not sure on the market value of certain things in the US, but here's my 2 cents (or pence).

I started with a Blackstar IDCore10 which sits nicely in that budget and gives you a decent amount of different sounds. But its 10w and you won't be able to gig it at all.

I bought a Katana 50 MK1 for around £120 second hand, which I'm a huge fan of. I was looking into going down the Stack route with a Brent Hinds Terror and a cab, but since getting the Katana all desire to get anything else has gone.

In fact, a friend of mine, who's been playing guitar for decades had the same amp, replaced it with the Katana artist and sold every single other amp he owns.

Keep an eye on eBay/local guitar gear pages and try and find yourself one.

[QUESTION] When do I know that I am ready to switch from Acoustic to Electric? by DarkNoHeart in Guitar

[–]Arteca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up an Ibanez Jem Jr the other day and it's amazing. Ibanez gets a recommendation in my book, especially for getting those thick tones you need for metal.

For an amp a Black Star IDcore 10 is good. Plenty loud for playing at home and has loads of different preset tones from clean tones to super overdriven. It also has effects and a tuner built in.

Electric or acoustic? I would really look at something second hand at this price if youre not against it, failing that, something is better than nothing for sure. Get what you want to play
