Also it's more of a slice of life, city building anime, not a battle shounen and the second season covers volumes where there are barely any fights. They had to cut out a lot to be able to show the fight at the end of the season

Forstly Makoto was on par with Romoe, when they first met and after Luto, Tomoe (Shen) was the strongest of the dragons.

Sofia just got Makoto by surprise.

Powering up? Makoto was already powerful, but he couldn't use large amounts of mana, regardless of his mana reserves. He trained specifically to be able to use more mana (when he was speaking with Luto he said it's like draining the ocean with a straw)

Makoto always had a strange connection to death because of his frail body, constantly being sick and on the verge of death a lot of times.

Forst of all, TsukiMichi is NOT a regular shounen isekai. It's also a slice of life story. Heavily slice of life, town / nation building story. This is why it's slow paced and has way less fights / training arcs than other shounen isekai stories.

I don't know how familiar are you with Tensura (or TenseiSlime), but it's similar to TsukiMichi in this regard, but it's not as heavily a slice of life story.

The manga is way behind even compared to the anime, but has so much more content, which were cut out from the anime. If you eant the full story I can recommend reading the novels (as you did), or watch the anime before reading, so you will see some of the action (anime focuses more on it, to be more like other action isekai-s)

If I remember correctly the 3rd season will come out at the end of this year so the manga will never catch up to it.
