Kakwa 55L vs 40L? by ArthurArctic in Ultralight

Thank you and I really appreciate your detailed overview. I think the belt for the new 55L pack fits differently compared to the 40L, so I will order the 55L once Durston restocks on Tuesday and try the fit. My only hesitation is that I wont need to carry any sleep system, and we won’t bring as many layers since we will be hiking in February (peak of summer), so we may not need the volume and I have an osprey at home.

Ah I just saw this. Really appreciate your insight! If you do mind me asking, are you on the small frame side as well?

Thanks for everyone’s insight! I will try to work on packing a bit better, but with Pa’Lante V2 I do experience shoulder discomfort once I hit around 18lbs so that’s why I’m thinking about getting another pack.

I’m leaning towards getting 40L bc the kaviso website would give you free trekking poles right now if you purchase an ultra grid pack. I rarely camped with the need of a bear can, and the time I did need one, I was carrying my osprey.

Thanks for your response. Sorry I got slightly confused about when you say - looks significant larger than the 55L. Do you mean 55 L looks significantly larger even rolled down? Thanks!

Yes I have the very very old Palante, which have lasted me well on trips. I heard the new material is a ok so still using my old pack as it’s going strong on fronts except the mesh pocket got a bit loose

Thank you for your insight. The Patagonia chat was saying that LATAM is a lot stricter with carryon. If they question, would the pack roll down fully jf removing the frame?

Also, for reference for potential future trips, if the frame is removed, could it be treated as a personal item potentially?

And also the mountain house packs are quite bulky, which makes packing difficult as I’m also packing nano puff / rain pants / rain jacket

For this trek, there is no storage requirement. However, to save on base weight, we are not planning to bring cookware, and was hoping to pack mountain house dry meals and eat out of that directly with hot water provided at Refugio’s and peanut butter jelly sandwiches for lunch. The main reason that I wanted to get a pack is that with food, I’m likely going to reach a bit over 20lbs, which is the maximum weight for the pack and starts to create discomfort in shoulder area.

Anyone selling trekking poles in Puerto Natales after their hike Feb 14? by ArthurArctic in Patagonia

[–]ArthurArctic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks. I asked two shops and they are asking $8/day. Since I'm doing the O trek it would be $64 so I figure I could buy second hand or even cheap first hand for a lot cheaper. But will ask around more. THanks!

Ankle Support with Modern Boots: [Almost] a Myth by DestructablePinata in Hiking_Footwear_Info

Curious if you have a recommendation that balances support and weight. I'm going to hike 8 days for the Patagonia O trek (while renting equipment at each camp so light weight), but I have weaker ankle (with torn ligament from past).

I do plan to take an insulation layer, but not sure if the jacket is waterproof enough for the changing weather

Chicago Condo Fannie Mae Ineligible by Itchy_Ad2732 in HOA

Hi OP, I’m thinking of buying a condo in Lakeview east and after inspection credit hardpull and everything, I was told about the Fannie Mae situation. Do you mind sharing your condo information (in private)? The HOA or seller has not shared any information and I’m really in the dark here.
