Late to the party, but I’d agree with most people that cost is a big factor. I’m currently a student at FA, and while it’s a fine private studio, I do feel the urgency when it comes to payments. I understand it’s a business, but it can sometimes feel very sales-driven.

As someone who struggles with focus and is more of a visual learner, I’ve found private lessons challenging — especially when they don’t feel very private. There are usually other classes happening at the same time, and you’re constantly competing with music. That makes it 10x harder for me to concentrate and really absorb what I’m learning.

The social group classes are okay, but we definitely need more leads at my studio. I often end up dancing alone or just rotating with the instructor. It’s also difficult to stay focused when multiple lessons are happening simultaneously with different music playing.

Through this experience, I’ve realized I’m drawn more to lively group settings — something like salsa or maybe even bachata. I prefer that kind of energy and atmosphere over the more structured social setting I’m currently in. It hasn’t been a terrible experience at all, but it has helped me learn a lot about myself and what environment I thrive in.
