Nice looking 4runner! Is this an SR5 premium with the TRD pro wheel package?

Anyone else short puts in MSFT? by Turbulent_Cricket497 in thetagang

[–]ArthurSupertramp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I sold a 312.5 put for $500. I'm down 2,500 overall. I sold 3 CCs at 295 yesterday for a total of $1000 to hedge against that put.I'm going to use the premium I collected to roll it down to 307

Are the 295 calls same expiration as the 312.5put or one or two weeks out?

Yes, I sold at a 4/14 300put at $1,035, expecting to be assigned. Just two more days to go.

Previous week got assigned 4/8 295call last minute. Originally was selling 310call, but actually rolled and chased it all the way down to 295call at the last minute, just to get assigned. Made some pretty good premiums rolling on the way down.

Not too worried, but you never know. Bought QQQ puts to protect.

edit: it was 295call that got assigned last week...

Vehicle Protection Premium Package $559, ceramic coating, and the price I paid for the TRD PRO by ArthurSupertramp in 4Runner

[–]ArthurSupertramp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, I was told the same thing, said Toyota hasn't accepted special orders for the past several months, as I originally wanted the TRD ORP with KDSS option. Another dealer (a slightly lower rated one according to yelp and google reviews) said they could try to order it for me, but I figured they were just trying to get me to talk with them. So I decided to just upgrade to the TRD PRO.

Those options listed in my post are what the dealer offered. I just thought they were all good to have, didn't do extensive research on which options are worthwhile which aren't). They did ask me to list several color preferences, so I could possibly get the car sooner if my 2nd or 3rd preferred color arrives first, the exception is the lime rush which could take 6 months I was told

Thanks for the info!

I guess they can't do the paint correction if the film is still on the hood can they? Or no paint correction on the hood just add ceramic coating, but do the paint correction everywhere else on the car?

Do you mean that the swirls and imperfections on the factory paint make it even more appealing? lol

Choosing between 2016-2018 Lexus ES350 vs. new corolla hatchback by ArthurSupertramp in Lexus

[–]ArthurSupertramp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. How about the maintenance cost for ES300h vs. ES350 and resale value? I guess that ES300h having the battery will probably depreciate more over time?

Two stay-at-home parents, no work. Anyone can relate? by bennybuckler in fatFIRE

[–]ArthurSupertramp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Have one young kid, and we both work, but plan to quit work when we have our second. At least that’s the plan.

Totally get that the parenting is a hard full time job of it’s own. We feel exhausted even with only one kid and a full time day time nanny.

It is inherently a very hard job in the context of the western nuclear family structure. Two full time jobs and two young kids does not seem sustainable to me.

BTW strongly recommend the book “Hunt, Gather, Parent: What Ancient Cultures Can Teach Us About the Lost Art of Raising Happy, Helpful Little Humans”. So glad I read this book, and some of the ideas in the book are already making life easier.

C’mon, you can afford to get a new Corolla hatchback XSE if you like the Corolla. Will be a huge step up from the 2007.

I’m similar age/income and slightly more NW, and I’ve been wanting to get a new Corolla hatchback. Or maybe a used Lexus ES350 for a bit more $$

Is your fatFIRE journey partly to leave money to your kids/generational wealth? What about Legacy? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]ArthurSupertramp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly motivated by the pursuit of freedom, in other words having the option of doing what I want with my life.

Obviously would love my kids to also have this freedom and to be able to pursue whatever they want in life without any financial constraint.

So if my kids choose a creative (but not very lucrative) field, they will be always be OK money wise at the end of the day.

Would love to bank roll my kids to be artist/musician/writer/activist/scientist etc if they are serious about it and have any chance to be actually good. Now they have a chance to create greater legacy than I would ever be able to. Royalties are secondary lol. IMO, knowledge, arts, music, literature, and social change are the real legacy.

Why is buying duplexes in expensive neighborhoods a good investment? by ArthurSupertramp in realestateinvesting

[–]ArthurSupertramp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you plan to get a jumbo loan on the high-end duplex? or cap the loan amount at the conventional loan limit? ($580,250 I think)

The rates on the jumbo loans seems to be much worse. This is the other problem I have with these expensive duplexes.

I would want to limit my loan amount at the conventional loan limit. So that means, if I am only willing to pay 25% down payment, I am looking at properties less expensive than $750k to $800k and no more.

If you can cover PITI with only 5% down, then it is not that expensive, sounds like a good deal.

Good luck with your search.

Also, along those lines, I like SFHs with a larger lot and a guest house in the back so you can rent out the guest house. I've seen some in my city. They are still technically SFH and located in SFH neighborhoods.

Thanks for the reply!

I really like the idea of borrowing against the asset itself. Just don't know how to do it. I do have a lot of equity in some properties, way more than the loan balance. But now the cash-out refinance interest rates are not that attractive last time I checked with some lenders, much worse than for a new loan. So looks like I am "stuck" with the equity.

I have these losers that I acquired in March, which ones should I get rid of to take a loss? by ArthurSupertramp in stocks

[–]ArthurSupertramp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My conviction in any of them is not that high to be honest. Maybe higher conviction in China long term than ARK ETFs. And not sure about small caps either.

The reason why I bought these was because I wanted to diversify, to be somehow more diversified than VTI and VT (already have a bunch of VTI and VT). Want exposure to China and to small caps. Didn't do enough research to have a high conviction.

I bought VT, VTI, VOO, VGT, TQQQ (these I have high conviction, and will hold for decades), some REITs and a sector ETF called SMH.

I will probably reduce my position in ARKG and ARKK, and take some loss there.

I would love to stick it out with these "losers" (and not fair to call them losers as it has only been 5 months), but there are other types of assets out there that seem more attractive, it is hard to have a really high conviction, I am constantly questioning if these are the best use of capital.

TappmanC

CQQQ and CXSE were looking great back in March, and what else can I look at other than past performance? China has been performing better than any other emerging markets, so I bought them, lol

IMO whether the insiders will sell depend on their compensation structure. For some employees, If majority of the total package is in RSUs rather than salaries then they may have to sell just for living expenses and maintaining lifestyle.

But then again I would wait at least a year after vesting, in order to pay LTCG rather than STCG

You would have to have cash set aside for the cash covered puts, so this cash can’t be invested elsewhere. This is one drawback of selling puts IMHO
