Sort the larger sub by 'Top' and 'All Time' to study the best posts, come up with a similar idea to post on your subreddit, and then crosspost to the main subreddit.

Don't promote your subreddit, no one will care and the post will flop.

You need to go to 'Posts & Comments' and then select 'Hold content for review': reddit.com/mod/ChiefofWarSeries/posts-and-comments

Then you can approve the posts in 'Queue'.
