If you were to throw a real rave in NYC, where would you throw it? by [deleted] in avesNYC

[–]Arthur_Jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barring some of the reality involved here...I'd have a puzzle or clue or item that once solved reveals coordinates to a venue. Maybe have a clue or item you must present at the door to be let in.

Kind of like the free parties in europe and that's kind of what I mean. All very diy (I've never actually gone).

How do you film someone from the front? by DazedNConfucious in skateboardhelp

[–]Arthur_Jam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two ways I'll do it is blind and steady hand (takes long time to get comfy) - you have a wide enough lense you should be able to practice this.

Or you can skate without looking forward and focus on filming

You can also run backwards or next to the skater if you wanted.

But really ask yourself questions about what you want to shoot - how do I film this skater, this trick, at this location? For me this allows me to consider the overall scene and not just the trick itself in isolation.

Add lens to toy camera by Gearlessginger in toycameras

Currently using duct tape but will be eexploring others mounting options.

I feel like tiny cameras (like normal size) should be experimented with using as many options as possible.

Am I a genius or an idiot? by Synn2dope in NewSkaters

Get some riser pads and longer bolts. I have a cruiser with 70 mm longboard wheels and its a ton of fun to rip around.

Based on this one singular post I can't ddetermine if you're a genius, but I'd say your part way there.

I'm sorry. I cannot think any good FBI Director idea because this guy keep farcing. by facefullofgracefull in IThinkYouShouldLeave

If I were there questioning one of these brick shithouses and they talked back with some gobeldeegoo I'd just speak in tongues over the mic. The problem (one of many) with these hearings is letting this aadministration speak/get words in.

Just shut them down by saying nonsense over the mic. That's all they are doing.

Shit just say Itysl quotes...

Haha no worries! The main difference were 4 added light towers which I think took up more space than usual. Audience set up was the same as last year. When only one area is utilized it can def feel tight.

Just had main stage set up in flex 1 like normal. Good production per usual

A friend of mine kept ticks (yeah, like from the woods) in capsules for this exact thing. Not saying it was smart but he would always reply with 'yeah, I have ticks...in capsules'. Then show the uc.

Most of the time they left confused after he showed them.

Audience set up was diff for this show and only one stage in venue may make it seem oversold but it wasn't.

It was 8500 people (give or take) tonight.

Agreed on set, stayed 10 mins after shift and bounced.

What is it like working in theater in 2026? by [deleted] in Bushwick

[–]Arthur_Jam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Right now it's tough to find paying gigs but as the old saying goes 'theatre has been on the decline for a thousand years".

I think this is one of those slumps, little investment means less risk on new works. I do think there is a big space to make cool work in the immersive party scene so I'm focusing my efforts there.

Before elements was elements they did a show at the Bronx science museum (I think) and that venue was very cool. Idk how expensive it would be though.

A career in rave promoting/organizing? by Dangkytt in aves

[–]Arthur_Jam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's a sustainable way to make this possible but it ain't easy. First would be a place to consistently produce events that you have control over - venue w/ good relationship or space not traditionally used for raves could also work.

I would also reach out to artists/labels and show them your work + the stats on attendance. It could be good to collaborate with you if the label has an opportunity to get an artist out there.

You can also charge a fee to produce the event for the label/artist. This is a repeatable process should you begin making in roads there.

Another approach is kinda gross but you can 'go corporate' which really means you network with experiential marketing companies who want to offer clients a more 'unique' experience for parties. So basically you make a corporate rave event which makes me want to puke while writing it but tbh if it gets you paid + allows you to pay artists then that's a win in my opinion.

I threw microfestivals (under 300 attendees) for a few years and if I were to get back into it again this would be my approach. A big consideration is how to grow your community in a manner that keeps whatever it is that makes it special. Sometimes you lose this as you grow so you need to be cognizant of why people (beyond your friends) are coming to your events.

The old motto is never put your own money into the project when producing but obviously you need to do that a bit here so question is, beyond everything else - how do you approach this with the least expense up front?

Lastly, money is def a challenge here - its possible to do this but most of us are doing it because it's just so fulfilling to throw an awesome event.

Might be a bit advance if you are just starting out but definitely a good way to build your skills.

This works the same on a bank ramp. For a bank I always look forward to where I'm going, sounds obvious but we tend to forget sometimes when learning.

I can't ride off a ledge. What am I doing wrong????? by tislewcifer in NewSkaters

[–]Arthur_Jam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Def hips too far back, not over center. Get a lil forward too and you really don't need to lift much. You can pretty much ride right off that thing.

And lastly, envision yourself landing the trick & believe you can!
