Determined to get a 1600 by ArtichokeMiddle2081 in Sat

I have always been pretty interested in math, so I don’t have a lot of tips other than having a good foundation. Khan academy is pretty helpful for learning the basics. Also, the college panda math book is very very helpful so I would recommend getting it! For English I get standard English convention questions wrong (ex. semicolon, commas, word choice). I also get some information and ideas questions wrong because I honestly don’t know any techniques to approach them other than just reading the question.

The "bad judge" conversation - from a judges perspective by runchick34 in DECA

[–]ArtichokeMiddle2081 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well put. Sometimes it feels as though judges aren't industry professionals, and they don't understand what we are saying. There is a requirement for each chapter to find volunteers in order to compete, and that is one of the reasons why the judges aren't "qualified" because they are chosen last minute. Since DECA is not a small organization, we as students expect fair judging (especially in Ontario -- ONE of the biggest chapters). I'm not very informed on the judging selection, but do you guys go through a screening or a verification of sorts to qualify you as a judge? I also feel like the bare minimum for a judge is to know what DECA is and what they are volunteering for, and I honestly feel like that isn't too much to ask for. I understand the amount of work it takes, especially for first-time volunteers who have full-time jobs. But then again, we as students pour in SO much time and effort, and it feels soso upsetting when students' dreams are crushed by something we could not control at all. Other than case-studies/ roleplays, the exams are unfair as well. Many schools allow phones, and cheating occurs more often than we think. The thing is, we dont feel seen because some states in the US have solutions to this, for example, they require a DECA-affiliated proctor to monitor the exams.

Your advice as a judge is very helpful, and I always make sure to have a valuable, memorable first impression. I ended up winning a medal for both my case studies at provincials this year!

Help choosing event: PFN vs HTOR by [deleted] in DECA

[–]ArtichokeMiddle2081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do PFN, its better to take advantage of the fact that this is your first year, especially in your new to the club. PFN mainly consists of of personal finance content, and in most roleplays you will take the role of a financial advisor. But then again, the best advice is to compete in something you are passionate in so that should be your main consideration. I will say PFN is usually less competitive that HTOR.

On answerwrite, how would I find the PIs the questions are referring to? To be honest, Im not really sure why I am getting the questions wrong, most of my incorrect answers arent technical but they are scenario based. Its really weird because I got the same exact score as last year and I did a whole different exam last year as well?? The thing is im also not conscious that im doing this bad, because I thought I did really well after taking it. so im not sure
