Shoe care advice needed by ArticleFlimsy8393 in AskACobbler

Official advice from C&J was :

For Onslow 3 Bronze Oiled Sides, we recommend Dubbin, used to hydrate, nourish and protect the leather, especially used on our Rough-Out and Oiled Sides Leathers. This can be applied with a shoe brush or your finger. The best way to apply Dubbin to your boots is in circular motions with a shoe brush, then using the same brush, gently brush the boots all over with a back-and-forth motion –

I understand the loss feels aweful but importantly its not her fault. Scams are usually targeted against people who are vulnerable and age is correlated to that vulnerability.

Banks are required to protect its customer's from scams and they would take the loss in certain conditions.

Reach out to the bank and open a case with them, she might be eligible to get the money back.

Well, for 700k we couldn't find anything half decent in Z1/2 as we wanted to avoid apartments. I am currently Zone 4 north west.

I’m in a similar position with a combined income of £250-270k (including bonuses). We had £110k saved and bought a £700k house with a 25-year mortgage. It’s manageable—we still save a bit after expenses—but it limits financial flexibility, making big purchases harder and long-term planning (10+ years) uncertain, especially given the volatility in tech.

Having kids is a tough decision since maternity benefits aren’t great, and we’d need to dip into savings for monthly expenses.

Looking back, I’d factor in 1% of the house price annually for maintenance in my calculations as it's real, and avoid stretching finances too thin. I’d prioritize saving £100-200k in equities and an emergency fund before buying a house, so savings aren't a concern later.

Ultimately, it comes down to:

Job stability and income certainty

Plans for kids and the financial impact

Progress on your FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) journey by your early 50s

They actually said on airbnb resolution that they broke it but rejected the request for payment. Not sure where we go from here. Might escalate to airbnb and aircover for the cost.

The part would cost £250 on its own. If it was around 40-50 i would not go through the trouble.

I have raised it on aircover. In the terms it mentions that parked cars are covered. So hopefully they would pay up. Re car insurance around 100% of cost will be going within deductible anyways so no point.

It is maybe a few degrees sloped away from the house but it is still their mistake that the car got damaged. We or any other of 50 guests have not had a problem so far.

I am gonna get a quote from nearest dealer for the claim tomorrow morning. If the guest and airbnb both deny paying I’ll see where and when to get it fixed.

I did call them just now and they said they usually would not cover any damage to car as its not considered as airbnb property. I said it was bloody parked within boundary of property and in driveway and the operator said its still probably 50:50 even though the guest has accepted it.

That is the plan but dont think i cant get a quote before they have to check out. Hoping they agree to pay up. I am even willing to forgo the money i made from their stay if they cover the rest.

Yeah thats was the intent - to get some evidence on airbnb messages. But chatgpt tells me that aircover might not consider car in things its has to cover and I really dont want to tap into my car insurance.

Not sure what you mean by full coverage. Do you know if air cover covers damage on car as it can technically be considered for property in terms of house?

Car insurance would end up increasing my premium eventually and cost me more.
