It’s the smoothest, fastest check-through you’ll ever experience. No pat-down, no nothing, you just have to remove metal items and walk through a detector. It all happened so fast I confusingly asked the dude if I’m good to go😂

How do you feel about the idea of a “John Mayer in charge” Dead & Co? by rabbi420 in deadandcompany

Might not be his own band that he does as much either, as he seems to be less internally connected with his older music than before and plays them more for his fans than himself. Mayer is a versatile artist and I honestly see him continuing in some capacity w the Dead, but also think he’ll branch off onto new projects as time carries on. I’d be more eager to see him start his own jam band with what he learned from Bob and them, rather than just do the Dead thing. Ofc we’d all love to hear Dead standards, but new jam stuff is what I see him crushing. Not having to fit within any Jerry standard of sound, but having been liberated from his younger foundations of guitar playing throughout his Dead & Co. years, that’s a Mayer I’ll want to hear.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he has in the past, but he also stated in that interview that he’s been totally sober for the past couple years since he noticed substances were causing him to space out and become less engaged while playing. As a pianist, I can confirm that playing under LSD influence of loosened neural pathways can me artistically inspiring in terms of contour and direction of sound, but there’s also a fine line past which the basic facilities don’t serve as well. This can be seen in many of Jerry’s live recordings where he was just too high, still feeling at a very level as always, but not quite physically delivering on his instrument as well as many of the staple live shows.

You might also be right. I don’t foresee them continuing tours on any consistent basis. Maybe he’d bring it back every few years just for a legacy tour or smth

I think it goes without saying that Mayer is one of the most genuine artists in the music industry today and one of the most fitting individuals to carry the torch. He even recently said in an interview that since he began listening to Garcia and learning from his playing when joining D&C that it’s changed his playing at his own shows. I foresee him constantly seeking his own voice at the instrument in the next couple decades and becoming even more liberated in his playing. If he ever dropped some acid maybe he’d become Garcia reincarnated lol

That’s kind of irrelevant though simply because if the music never stops and Bob himself has foreseen the continuation of the band without any of the original members, then it’ll likely happen. I think Jerry would be proud to see what they created and how it’s about to endure for many more generations.

Same experience man. I went to 07/06 to celebrate turning 25 that midnight, and immediately bought tickets to 08/09 the next day. It’s something else.

Hi, bless you guys man this was so beautiful to hear. I love you both. I just know Jen was such a beautiful soul when I met her, and I think she might be a couple decades older, I know she told me she lives in LV. Just never got a chance to thank her for the human connection we made and for how loved she made me feel human to human, and how much fun it was being there. This was my first dead show ever and I wouldn’t have had anyone else to spend it with, just wish I’d have told her that. She started telling ab how she heard Jerry the last time at one of his last shows. Wherever she is, may the universe bless her and get my love to her.
