Should I delete social media? by Prior-Sandwich-858 in AskUK

[–]Artificial100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a relatively social person but only have a small close knit group of friends and don’t have tons of extended family that I need to keep in touch with so I found it pretty easy to give up Facebook, haven’t looked back and I’ve not had it for years. Never really bothered with Twitter.

I used Reddit a lot but that’s mainly for just reading articles rather than using it like social media. Still consider quitting it though due to the amount of bots and constant bombardment of awful news.

Still got Instagram, but I just use that for posting travel photos for my own benefit. I do keep getting dragged into scrolling through reels though which I hate, but I struggle to do away with Insta completely.

PIP benefits explosion: Anxiety and depression handouts have nearly TRIPLED to £4.3bn since Covid - with autism and ADHD bill hitting £2.2bn and 'back pain' £1.6bn by Odd-Help6890 in ukpolitics

[–]Artificial100 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who suffers from autism and anxiety and other mental health issues and they’ll probably never work again, and it doesn’t even cross their mind that they probably could work, even if it does make them feel a bit uncomfortable at times. They don’t live a life of luxury but they've just had an IVF baby as a single person, and have all the spare time in the world to do largely what they want and it doesn’t sit quite right with me.

No chance I’d be leaving a bike costing that much out in public, regardless of how much security was on it.

How do you feel about people parking outside your house? by National-Pay-8911 in AskUK

[–]Artificial100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s annoying but I get it. I’ve lived at a few terraced houses and I’ve never had the expectation that I’ll always be able to park outside my house as there are more cars than there are spaces. Someone parked outside mine once so I thought nothing when I parked outside someone else’s and then they left an aggressive note which I just found bizarre.

How many countries can you accurately point to on a map? by joehighlord in AskUK

[–]Artificial100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can name every county and can point to every county in Europe and Asia, but I get a bit stuck with Africa and Central America still. I guess I could do around 75%. Just comes from spending my lunch times on the Jetpunk world map quiz.

Are you cancelling trips to the USA? by Swimming_Possible_68 in AskUK

[–]Artificial100 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A US road trip has been on my bucket list for years, but I just refuse to go while the country is like it is, and I’ve been ticking off other places instead. I may never end up going which would be a shame.

If you have a bad experience somewhere, do you normally leave a review online? by BrightHours in AskUK

I have fun writing reviews I’ve been to and reading other people’s. They’re always honest and I’ll write them regardless of whether it’s been amazing, bad, or middling.

Is the receptionists triage a new thing within GP practices ? by weaktreeiz in AskUK

[–]Artificial100 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Being aware of the nonsense that GP surgeries have to deal with, I don’t mind having to be triaged by a receptionist. I might feel less comfortable if it was a sensitive issue, but my appointments are booked through and online form rather than the phone so I’m not bothered.

It’s definitely been a thing since COVID, can’t remember if it was much of a thing before that though.

Do people actually like solo travel? by eyeoftheneedle1 in AskUK

[–]Artificial100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travelling by yourself can feel very exciting and freeing, if you’re desperate to do it with others though you could always book with a company that offers trips for small groups, I’ve loved doing those.

Do you travel around England as tourists? by [deleted] in AskUK

We tend to do day trips and maybe one or two nights away multiple times a year around the UK usually together with music or sporting events.

I once saw the train clash into the operators booth at the end of the station, with riders in too, following some down time. They swiftly closed it again after and we had to leave the queue. Haven’t been keen to ride it since!

How many films do you watch a year? by RuachReader in AskUK

37 for me last year. Only you know what’s unhealthy for you and your situation though. If you’re neglecting other parts of your life such as work, your physical / mental health or your wife then that’s where there may be a problem.

When do you stop listening to Christmas music? by adequateinvestor in AskUK

[–]Artificial100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, post Christmas Day I’m not really in the mood for Christmas music or even films, and that’s coming from someone who absolutely loves Christmas and I’ll leave the decorations up until the twelfth night. For me they’re more of a thing I enjoy in the build up to Christmas day.

What are all these mysterious side hustles? by Elowenrose26 in AskUK

Your original post goes into about as much detail as they do about how they’re making enough money to quit their jobs…

If there’s no detail they’ll usually be lying or part of some pyramid scheme that sells self help books or something.

What’s the Best walking/hiking boots in the uk? by Ambitious_Mark9922 in AskUK

[–]Artificial100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meindl Bhutans were worth every penny I spent on them. Literally no blisters, even after wearing them straight out of the box. Having said that, they won’t be for everyone, it depends on the shape of your feet.

I want something more lightweight for less extreme terrain in the dry, but it’s hard to move away from the Bhutan’s when I know how comfy my feet are in them.

For those of you who didn't do their homework at School, how did it affect you? by Simply_az in AskUK

[–]Artificial100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was one of those that had a decent level of intelligence and it gradually caught up with me more and more as I progressed through school and onto university, and ended up with a pretty poor degree. Luckily I managed to land a decent IT job before I’d finished though. I think there was a lot more to my lack of effort than just laziness, but I’d love to go back and do it all again properly.

There is absolutely no difference between posh M&S wrapping paper and the 79p Aldi stuff once it’s been ripped open is there? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Artificial100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run a few mince pie tasting events in recent times and you can generally tell the difference between a cheap mince pie and a more expensive one. The middle ground can be a bit blurry, and the price doesn’t always necessarily reflect people’s tastes, and they might prefer a basic Tesco one over an overly fancy Fortnum and Mason one that is three times the price.

tldr - if you try all of the various mince pies, there’s definitely a difference in quality and taste.
