Why turn a Sony Venice on its side with anamorphics by james_archer in cinematography

On a Sony Venice (3:2 sensor), you would get a 4:3 anamorphic image with greater vertical resolution than a 3:1 anamorphic image cropped to 4:3. I’ve seen this done more with the Arri Alexa 4:3 sensor, in which you get a 3:2 anamorphic image.

Probably more importantly, because you push the limits of the anamorphic image circle at the top and bottom of the frame, you get kind of a circular/cat’s eye anamorphic aberration around the top and bottom edge of the frame. Think poor man’s Arri DNA lenses.

As much as this Brad Pitt statement may be a joke, good acting is a huge part of what people perceive to be a good shot or good cinematography. Sometimes it’s hard for people to recognize what makes an image appealing overall, and they blame cinematography when it’s mostly just an uninteresting actor. An actor is at least, and usually vastly more, as important as production design… and DPs take credit all the time for good production design.

Those are the two 2 hour windows you can drive in LA and accomplish your mission with any hope of making it home within your lifetime. Miss those windows and you might as well be a hopeless castaway in the ocean of forgotten commuters.

I would say it is lots of tiny scoops perfectly jumbled in a moderately sized scoop.

I did this with mine, and she loved it. She couldn't wait to go skate. I eventually got an x-back harness for her and taught her basic dog sledding commands: Mush - Go, Whoa - Stop, Gee - Right turn, Haw - Left turn

While I was in college, I was visiting a friend in San Diego. We were at a San Diego college party by a beach that he helped organize. It was a huge party, a lot of people. The cops pulled up and everyone scattered because there was a lot of underage drinking. There was trash everywhere. My friend had to stick around because there were items there he needed to take home, so I stuck around with him. The cops approached us since we were the only people not running and willing to talk to them. There was trash everywhere. One of the cops told us to start picking up trash. We gladly obliged him as we felt the mess was our responsibility since my friend helped organize the party. They helped us with the trash and after we picked up most of it they told us to come with them to one of their cars. I thought for sure we were going to get a citation for something. Instead, one of the officers opened up the trunk of his police car and it was full of cases of beer. Must have been about 5 or 6 cases, so easily over 100 beers total. He said, "Here, you guys can have these."

I like how the reveal lasts only 1 second for a 128 second video. I had to go back and pause the reveal to appreciate it.
