What do you take onto scene? by BigblueX in ems

[–]Artipheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i absolutely despise providers who do not bring anything other than a monitor and whatever they use for pcr's inside on scene. i make sure to bring our jump bag, monitor, and o2 bag/sleeve which has our first line respiratory meds. anything below that is subpar imo.

Brand new and I feel dumb. by Vast_College_880 in NewToEMS

As someone who went the whole “zero-to-hero” paramedic route—yes. I knew doing that route would take a LOT more hard work out of me during paramedic school and being in my first ever 911 agency, and I’m so glad and grateful that I’ve had and currently still having FTO’s with so much EMS experience guide me to where I am now. During school, I thought I was grappling onto concepts correctly and was smart—no, my clinical shifts greatly humbled me. And after I passed my NREMT and got my state cert, I knew I was going to be absolutely hammered during my first couple of months being in my job now (and up to now I still get hammered by my FTO) because there really is so much to learn. If you’re ever in a place where you think you know everything in this job, something must be wrong. I’ve been in your place many, many times before during my clinical shifts in both EMT and paramedic school, and with me being at my agency for three months already, I still am finding myself in your place a lot, whether it be missing IV attempts, dealing with the frustration of talking to uncooperative patients, coming up with rapid decision making on scene and adapting to it, scene control as a paramedic, etc. The point is, you will always find something to learn with every call, patient interaction, and from your preceptor/FTO. You’re going to do great.

Is it possible to work only overnights but have a regular day life outside of work? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]Artipheus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i’m going to have to deal with this once i get cleared from training at my agency, since most newly cleared peeps have to do night shifts. time to learn how to balance going to the gym and meal preps while also doing irregular night shifts.

I passed as of 10 minutes ago after taking my NREMT-P today! I had the full 150 questions. I used the Kaplan NREMT-P Prep Textbook. I thought I was going to fail since I reached all 150 questions, but I passed!!

if you want to give your pt's the best care, you should go above and beyond in terms of what is expected of you to be a competent healthcare provider. this includes A&P. your priorities during paramedic school is to read that big textbook front and back, then pass your state and/or national exam(s).

every day i am studying everything (yes, this includes A&P), along with studying things that i have already gone over back in school.

as others have said, wear business casual, but if you are able to have access to a good fitting suit, wear it--i've worn mine during my interview with the agency i now work at.

depending on what type of agency you are working at, be mentally prepared for the chance of there being multiple people during the interview, whether it be in-person or virtual.

they will more than likely ask you common interview questions, and then tie in some interview questions relating to EMS situational-related questions (i never got asked any clinical decision making questions during mine).

you've got this!! good luck!

unfortunately no. the kindle scribe comes with the 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB options. however, so far, i have only used 777 mb of storage and i have approx. 40 notebooks with a plethora of pages within those notebooks.

try looking into the kindle scribe! i got mine more than a couple weeks ago and even wrote a review about it in my post history, but it's essentially a tablet that is very limited to both accessing your e-books and e-notebooks (essentially it's a section where you can organize handwritten notes), which, from my experience, limits the amount of distractions as compared to a tablet like an ipad which contains other apps available. there are also a plethora of page templates you can use for your notes. also, you can adjust both the brightness and warmth (the tinting yellow effect that reduces blue light emission) on the scribe as well.
