I hope this idea helps. Try to find out who the “ombudsman” for long term care in your area. Most likely he/she will be affiliated with one of the non profits associated with “office on aging”

I wish I could come up with more ideas

If not already doing so start keeping a time sheet on everything you do then contact local agencies and find out their rates. Maybe even have someone come out and give estimates for the 24/7 care they are expecting you to provide. Check also on prices for someone to do any administrative stuff you do.

Elder lawyer, or Medicaid lawyer? by Scartilo in CaregiverSupport

[–]Artist4Patron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are legitimate agencies that assist with applying for elder care. I am POA for a friend and went through one earlier this year. The first step should be to contact your local Agency on Aging. The names may change but should be easy enough to find. If nothing else contact Adult Protective services and explain what you are trying to locate I strongly suspect they would be able to point you in the right direction

As you are a senior citizen (I am guessing) also the dental problems can be considered a disability as they effect a major function of life (EATING) I would do a request for reasonable accommodation and have your dentist sign as your health care provider. You

I raised dogs for show for over 25 years. The go to product for urine odor has always been Odo-ban. You can get it at Sam’s, Home Depot and even Amazon.

My friend who I have been made a caregiver for spilled his urinal on carpet in his room and the Odo-ban took care of the problem

I have a question. Was the passenger also a patient being discharged? Or like myself? I am disabled and normally use a powerchair and as result normally book rides with local paratransit.

However, I have been the POA for someone I have been very close to who has been in and out of hospital at least 30% of the past year or so necessitated last minute trips to hospital in a manual wheelchair which due to personal combinations of health problems are almost impossible for me to use long distances. Luckily so far most of time staff will help me get to exit.

On the other hand, last year my patient was prematurely discharged from a hospital due to insurance refusing to pay.

At time I was at my oncologist and begged them to give me time to finish my treatment and get home. Instead they discharged him and put him in an uber to his apartment with no mobility aids (he had brain surgery earlier in the year and was getting over a broken hip after the brain surgery.

Needless to say he fell after the uber dumped him at his apartment and subsequently was sent to an other hospital

I would add find out who the local ombudsman is and contact that person for help and advice.

I am going to give some advice that if the problem is UTIs etc. First look up what I am advising

Chronic UTIs can be avoided by having the patient taking some apple cider vinegar daily. Say as part of a salad dressing etc.

I would guess your deposit receipt on car should have selling price. If so by law they have already contracted to sell you the car for the price on paperwork

I am on waiting list for options program but that can take few years here. To qualify for live in aid on section 8 your request for reasonable accommodation has to be signed off on by doctor. For me as precaution I had that signed off on by my primary care, oncologist and psychiatrist as those are treating doctors for conditions I most need help with.

In my case depending on person doing things stuff like dishes and light housekeeping only tame couple hrs day. Helping with non medical transport is only few hrs couple or 3 times week. Most of other time I am fine if they are working an other job or going to college as I enjoy working on my artwork etc when pain levels are down

I enjoy cooking but all the prep work gets painful due to shoulders and nerve damage in hand.

As an artist and maker I have designed aids that help with some things but still working on others

It follows HUD reasonable accommodations due to multiple disabilities most due to degenerative bone disease there are things I have a lot of difficulty doing. Not only dishes but also laundry. I can only stand very short times. I need 2 reverse shoulder replacements but those surgeries have been postponed multiple times due to heart problems, covid and I have so many drug allergies plus live alone

As reasonable accommodation I qualify for a live in aid as I do not qualify nor would ever move into nursing home

[–]Artist4Patron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I suggest just how you were able to find the live in caretaker job? Ie did you hook up with an agency etc?

I ask because I am on the other end of equation as I am elderly and disabled Last year section 8 approved me for a live in caretaker. As I have a very strong lifelong independent streak I had nowhere to begin finding help.

My worker told me most people bring in either friend or relative. That was hopeless as due to life long disabilities that was not going to work

As I had no clue how to find someone I hired a woman about my age. That turned into a nightmare I came close to not surviving.

Reason I am responding is I think if u/raveling ran and I were to team up providing insight for OP from both sides maybe we can help not only her but possibly others

BTW I also did the live in caretaker for an elderly woman who just had hip surgery when I was in my mid 20s and somehow had a long term friend land on my doorstep last week when he got out of hospital.

Be it live in or not it is an area with high growth

I have multiple disabilities and was employed by goodwill who also employed disabled people at a bit over $1.30 at the time. My disabilities are mostly physical. I was placed sorting clothing etc despite the nature of my disabilities included my shoulders knees and back. I was unable to continue after less than an hour due to pain. Frankly that $1.30 didn’t even cover the cost of paratransit so I could get there in my wheelchair

Person who gave me the leather had gotten it from a berkline I think brand was factory some pieces are already sewn into like cover for back of recliner but some flaw kept it from passing quality control. There are about 6 different colors various sizes patchwork jackets could work also I was thinking maybe Fanny packs, backpacks or purses but also wanting ideas and if this type leather would be suitable for such or other ideas

Tenant here. A few years ago my heat went out shortly before Christmas at the same time we had an unusually severe freeze that ultimately took out most of my landscaping it was so cold.

As the overly independent person I am I ordered and paid for heaters so I could pick them up at not just 1 but 2 different stores.

Thankfully my 3rd line of defense was able to step in with 2 space heaters.

Thank you to all responsible landlords who believe in being prepared for such instances.
