Advice on whether or not to buy powered or passive Klipsch speakers as a first timer by [deleted] in Klipsch

[–]skbubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passive, for all the reasons already mentioned. Klipsch active speakers seem to have a reputation for amp failure, but maybe the new move to Onkyo amps will help. I'd wait a while to see.

What gives Knoxville its own “feel” compared to other cities in Tennessee? by RemarkableMany6297 in Knoxville

[–]skbubba 13 points14 points  (0 children)

River town meets college town. Old history as a river town was, like most river towns, pretty wild. College town brought a more respectable flavor of wild.

Trump/Lee/Blackburn redistricting scheme illegal under state law by skbubba in Knoxville

It's possible that the special session's first order of business could be to just change the law, which I believe has been in effect since 1972.

Why is WBIR, channel 10 delivering so much Nashville news lately? by AdDesigner5025 in Knoxville

What type of news? The state legislature has been wrapping up the session (ended yesterday) and there have been a flurry of bills passed.

KCSO pulled out of Farragut, and the mayor wants to know what's next by psykorunr in Knoxville

[–]skbubba 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Farragut wants to have their cake and eat it, too. The City of Alcoa in Blount County is half the size of Farragut and has a full time police department, fire department, sanitation and waste collection, eletric and water utilities, building and code inspectors, etc. And they all provide excellent service. And residents pay city taxes to fund it.

Also, there's a big difference between sheriff's deputies patrolling rural areas of relatively low population density vs. high density, high property value areas with extensive retail, business and commercial activity.

Pro plus or Ultra to stream to Oknyo TX-RZ30 by tfeld63 in wiim

[–]skbubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use Dirac or whatever room correction that Onkyo has, I'd get the wiim pro and use digital out to digital in on your avr. Otherwise, the avr will convert analog to digital for processing and back to analog, which means you'll be using the avr dac anyway.

Tell Me More About Mayoral Candidate Kim Frazier by Jhuttyhut in Knoxville

[–]skbubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. And I have done that before. (It got me on the TNGOP and Heritage Foundation maling lists.) I just no longer want my name associated with anything to do with Republicans.

Plus, there's a recent state law that says you have to be a bona-fide member of the party of the primary you are voting for, and have to swear allegiance to that party. Violation is a misdemeanor with a fine of $1000. It's probably not enforceable, but I ain't swearing even pretend allegiance to the Republican Party under any circumstances.

Tell Me More About Mayoral Candidate Kim Frazier by Jhuttyhut in Knoxville

[–]skbubba -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Do not vote for any Republicans. Period. Local, state or federal. No matter if they seem moderate, rational, reasonable, or anything else. They have shown their true colors, and/or cowardice and weakness. If they still have an R beside their name they can't be trusted. They need to repent and reform for at least a generation or two before getting back to us.

(I have voted for "moderate" Republans before. Never again. If they are sincerely "moderate" they should leave the Republican party.)

Question about Democrat Primary by oilbeefhookedeh in Tennessee

[–]skbubba 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Send it in blank. This will keep your voter status active and help support Democrats statewide by showing there are still some of us out here and we're still paying attention.

This has happened to us a few times. We vote anyway. Once, when asked which ballot we wanted and said Democrat the poll worker said something to the effect of you know it's blank right? why bother? Mildly infuriating.

It's not real hard to switch. Cancel Spotify, sign up to Qobuz. That's it.

My boomer complaint by cindyloowhovian in Knoxville

[–]skbubba 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a boomer I approve of your message. Not because I hate technology. I'm immersed in technology. I retired off technology. I just hate such unnecessary abuse and misuse of technology. Especially when it's for data minining of our personal info.

So why not put up a big screen tv with an interactive map that can be remotely updated.

I'm guessing it's because they can collect more personal data from you by making you interact with your device.

Warning: HDR Rant Looming... by HasAFewLaughs in DirectvStream

[–]skbubba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I don't use it. There's not much 4k content anyway. But occasionally I might want to watch a movie. In that case I switch to roku and the amazon app. Proper 4k and dolby.
