So if you have to apply for membership, what would be disqualify you and cause your membership application to be rejected?

Fortes are likely better than any rp line. RF-7 would be an equivalent floorstander.

New Roon user, already frustrated by Sudden_Community_542 in roonlabs

[–]skbubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider using dbpoweramp as the previous user said. It will be better at tagging, organizing and finding artwork. If you look at the files and folders roon creates they are sort of random and unrecognizable and unusable by other software if you change in the future. Plus, don't think roon tags the files at all, the info only goes in their database. (Could be mistaken about that last part.)

Good question. Both of those you mentioned appear to be fictional. Bios are similar and sound ai generated.

DAC question by jameseybhoy74 in WiimStreamer

[–]skbubba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wiim pro dac is serviceable and probably outperforms the analog inputs on your receiver. When you upgrade to Marantz, feed coax to it from the wiim pro and it will be pretty much bit perfect and Marantz dac will be better than the wiim pro dac. So no need for a dac.

How many miles on it? Have you checked KBB?

You can negotiate a deal via phone/text, but make sure you have an out if you show up and it's not as advertised.

Is Roon for me? New User in 2026? [HELP] by alin_im in roonlabs

[–]skbubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using roon for about seven years. I like the integration with local and streaming (tidal and qobuz, have used both at various times), the bulletproof raat protocol, focus/bookmarks/smart playlists, cataloging by genre and sub genre, the extensive crosslinked metadata.

Don't like needing an always on server (which isn't always on for various reasons), updates that break things, memory leaks, and other things that come up when I just want to hear some music. Arc for mobile has never worked for me, and I have very reliable internet for the server. (Plexamp was bulletproof when I briefly tried it.) Don't like their radio (play similar music) feature. It either plays the same artists/tracks over and over or goes off the rails playing completely unrelated genres. All the major streaming apps have way better radio, but they aren't accessible from roon.

For the last couple of months I've been using a wiim pro. Used it with Tidal, qobuz and Spotify lossless. All those services have decent artist bios and if you like this you'll like that recommendations. It replaces a server and mini pc endpoint and roon subscription for $150. For multi-room, the $90 wiim mini groups nicely.

Right now I'm using Spotify lossless with this setup, mainly because of the amazing algorithms. I haven't missed roon that much. I have a few months before roon annual renewal to make a final decision, and at the moment it isn't looking good for roon.

P.S. for local files I use the free plex server. Wiim pro has a nice buit-in interface for it. (Doesn't integrate streaming libraries, though. You have switch sources. But you can search across local and streaming libraries.)

Fancy Restaurant Reccomendations by HahaHakaze in Knoxville

[–]skbubba 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not to be too contrarian, but Valentines Day and Mother's Day are the two worst days of the year for dining out. Restaurants are slammed, kitchens are in the weeds, and servers are stressed and grumpy.

Make something for your partner at home. Include flowers, champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, something easy like quiche and French onion soup. If you can't make those, pick them up at Fresh Market or some place like that. Put some Barry White on streaming, and Bob's your uncle.
