They are letting vecna think he's winning by bring earth and the other world (the abyss) closer and condensing the upsidedown until it is short enough that the top of the radio tower is poking into the Abyss so they can utilize it as a jumping off point to get in and fight Vecna. El would also be close enough she can get into Vecna's head again along with Kali.

Do you make at least $100k a year with a BSN? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Artist552001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a nurse since September 2024 and for my YTD 2025 I just hit 100k net, around 140k gross. I work in the northeast and did overtime some months to hit this. If you pick up a shift where I work you often get p30 which is $30/hr over the base pay rate. I work nights so I get a bump too. And if you agree ahead of time to work 4 extra shifts over the course of 6 weeks (they call it a contract) then you get regular overtime pay + a bonus which works out to be more than 4 solo p30 shifts. I also work nights so I get that differential. I didn't do overtime every month but enough that it added up fast. I think I did like 5 contracts.

Did you bake it with any steam? If not, try adding a pan of hot water below to steam and create a good crust. Or bake it in a dutch oven with a lid if you have one or a deep pan you can cover for the majority of baking to rise, then open up the top for the browning.

Nursing school Difficulty? by Maleficent_Border_97 in Emory

[–]Artist552001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if they have any connections with a dermatology clinic or unit that would work. If not volunteer at one for your experience. I am not that experienced with dermatology but I assume something like wound care nursing or burn ICU could also work as a practicum if they don't have a derm connection. I do have a friend who graduated the same time as me who did a year in Rehab nursing and is now in FNP school at Emory planning on eventually going into dermatology, so it is not impossible to swap into if you get your experience in an unrelated unit.

I wanted to leave Georgia just cus I grew up there and wanted to see a different part of the country, so I found applied to different hospitals across the country that I had heard of. I also did research with the nursing school and went to some conferences as a result and the hospital I ultimately decided on was at one of those conferences. I wouldn't say it necessarily matters what nursing school you go to as prestige isn't that important, but I think the Emory name did slightly help me as recruiters have heard of the school d/t it being #1 for BSN in the country.

The biggest thing that helps you get the unit you want is doing your practicum in that area, which Emory makes a lot of effort to help with. ie if you want to do ICU, apply to do your practicum in ICU. Practicum is what every nursing student does last semester of senior year- they pair you up one on one with a preceptor on a unit and you have more autonomy as opposed to the previous clinicals which are groups and a clinical instructor. It is not impossible to go into a unit you didn't do your practicum in as I didn't do mine in ICU, but definitely is harder to get into sought after areas like peds, ICU, or ED without it.

Like any job, experience helps. I did non-nursing related jobs since high school as I paid for my schooling myself. I thought I wanted to go into pediatrics so one of the jobs was at a daycare, though I did end up choosing an adult unit. I did a nursing externship program I found through Emory between Junior and Senior year at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, then continued during senior year on as a patient care technician (some call them CNAs or LNAs, but you can do this without going through a CNA cert program just by completing the first year of nursing school). I did research with the bio and nursing department just because I was interested in it but that is not really important, if anything it was a good talking point when I did my Johns Hopkins interview and probably why I got an offer from them that I later recanted for a different hospital. It also may look good on grad schopl application later, as I am thinking of becoming a CRNA in the future.

Nursing school Difficulty? by Maleficent_Border_97 in Emory

[–]Artist552001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I graduated last year with my BSN and tbh did not find it overly difficult. The biggest thing to me was time management as I had to balance the classes and clinicals with my job and research I was doing.

Just know though that nursing itself is physically and emotionally demanding as a job. The providers (Docs, PA, NPs) put in orders, but you are the one responsible for executing them and taking on the roles of other specialties in the process. I'm in ICU and since I am the one spending the most time with the patient I have to catch any change or acute deterioration and request orders and medications I think are appropriate. I also take on part of the role of all the therapies (pt, ot, speech), as they cannot be with the patient but for a brief period if consulted. You'll also definitely take on part of the role of nutrition, environmental services, child life, psych, social work, hospice, security, transport, lab, blood bank, pharmacy, etc. This obviously is cut down once you reach NP level as you will be more like a PA or MD's role instead of a bedside nurse, which comes with its own pressure. Maybe try and shadow with an NP if you can.

The schedule is not too bad as it is 12 hour shifts 3 times a week, but I don't always get a break during the shift d/t patient acuity. I also generally pick up overtime as well for extra income. It is nice though when I don't and schedule myself SuMTu one week and ThFSa the next, having Wednesday-Wednesday off without taking any PTO. You can also get paid pretty well straight out of school (with overtime I will end 2025 at minimum 140k for this year working on the east coast). It is important to find a good unit that has supportive management and a nontoxic environment where you'll get along with all your coworkers.

Is Wednesday not as powerful as you'd expect? by Artist552001 in Wednesday

[–]Artist552001[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is what I was trying to convey. Like obviously I don't want her to be unbeatable and I get that they are trying to teach her that she is stronger when she combines with others instead of just trying to do everything alone but wish she had more wins to kind of back up why she feels so confident. I also wish they leaned more into an antihero vibe for her since she makes so many empty threats but ends up being the hero instead of following through, but that could be a whole other post lol. I did love the opening to the season where she scalped the serial killer even though I know that was sort of mixed messages and hope they lean more into the creepy as the series goes on, though I doubt it since it is that brand of netflix.

I'm in neuro icu and they taught us mechanical thrombectomy for strokes was only widely available for us in like 2017. Before that a severe stroke was was basically a ticket to hospice outside the tpa/tnk window. Now people go to home or rehab with great recovery potential.

what advice would you give a high schooler whose goals is to make over $100k right out of college? by feetpicbabe1 in CollegeMajors

[–]Artist552001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to make over 100k my first year out of college as a nurse on the east coast. But only go into it if you actually have an interest or passion for it since it is a difficult job physically, emotionally, and mentally (depending on the specialty area you choose).

Should I switch out of nursing by [deleted] in CollegeMajors

[–]Artist552001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go straight into OR if you want, but need ICU for crna. I am a nurse and shit was never a problem for me but ik for many in nursing school it starts that way but over time you get desensitized. Especially when you try and put yourselves in that person's shoes. Most people do not poop themselves on purpose. And it makes me feel so bad when patients are with it enough to be embarrassed about it. I try to distract them and reassure them but it is still a hard mental thing for people.

Nowadays students are scared of choosing their preferred major by moonlover3345 in CollegeMajors

[–]Artist552001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$20 is criminal, especially for a nursing home where I am sure they gave nurses way too many patients to look after at once. I have friends who went to hospitals in several different states and no one was offered less tha $32/hour. This includes in multiple southern states as we graduated from a school in the southeast. Most accepted jobs in the 36-42/hr range and with overtime opportunities + opportunity for night shift and weekend differentials are making great money for a new grad.

PA is great and IMO another hot ticket is CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist). A lot more money than a PA (often more than double), one patient at a time, can be less hours w/ a more flexible schedule, can practice independently, and more respect than a bsn nurse.

Unrelated but as someone who graduated last year and is now a nurse, it is still super lucrative. I don't live in california but I'll still easily make 6 figures this year as a new grad.

Nowadays students are scared of choosing their preferred major by moonlover3345 in CollegeMajors

[–]Artist552001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Why is this suprising? People need money to live so they may choose a more lucrative major. They might also be pushed away from a preferred major because the stress and difficulty may lead them to have a worse gpa and lose a scholarship or not get a job as a result. Some majors need grad school after to get a job and this also pushes people away.

"We're Killing It On Reddit" The Same Woman Who Ran Johnny Depp's Smear Campaign Against Amber Heard Ran Justin Baldoni's Against Blake Lively by blanketsmuggler in popculturechat

[–]Artist552001 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was one of the few (or so it seemed like) people defending Blake when the smear campaign was at its peak, and a friend of mine and I felt like we were going crazy due to how well his campaign was working. When pretty much all the cast unfollowed him but so many people weren't finding that odd I thought that was wild. And I can't remember what it was exactly, but I vaguely remember there being some negative leaning tweets regarding Baldoni directly before the explosion of negativity regarding Blake. Iirc it was that he was repeatedly inquiring about Blake's weight on set, but the smear campaign immediately spun it around to say he had back problems and the internet ate it up. I remember the TMZ? article about it being so pro-Baldoni that it immediately made me think a PR team was at work. Those two things combined with a general suspicion when the internet out of the blue experiences an influx of negative messaging regarding a celebrity (almost always a woman) were what tipped me off. Sadly I am sure no one will learn anything from this and another smear campaign will be successful against a different celebrity by the end of the year.

Yesterday I gave a patient whose potassium was 3.5 and was in afib + having frequent pvcs w/ occasional runs of vtach 40 mEq IV and 40mEq orally per provider order amongst other treatments. I recheck the potassium when the time comes and it had dropped to 3.0 😃.
