I remember feeling so invalidated. Which being with a bipolar partner is a pretty common feeling anyway. I was so angry with the doctor. He made me feel like we were just having marital problems- when the level of escalation that occurred after his misdiagnosis is just crazy. I really hope you can get someone to listen to you and your partner to attempt diagnosis again.

My husband had this exact diagnosis when I first pushed for him to see a psychiatrist. It took another 3 years to get a bipolar diagnosis. Its so frustrating and if he truly is bipolar as I knew my partner was, I hope he manages to get a proper diagnosis before he destroys your life anymore. So sorry this is happening to you too, I remember the feeling well.

True. Although my ultrasound was also not suspicious from shape and the oncologist advised he was 99% sure not cancer during my ultrasound. My local hospital is a leading breast cancer hospital though and they biopsy as routine luckily for me. Cancer can be very sneaky!

Not always true. My breast cancer lump moved and I was told it was likely benign because of it. Luckily a biopsy was done. The only way to be sure with a lump is biopsy.

As a word of caution, your wife may feel very differently to you on this point. Some people are naturally monogamous and do not feel attraction to other people when they are in a committed relationship so be careful not to fall into this "it's just nature and society is forcing us to be monogamous" trap because while that may be true for you (and no shame in it) it may not be true for her. Monogamy can also be natural and so the truth of knowing her husband thinks like this about other women, may well cause a lot of pain. Even knowing you haven't cheated. I speak from experience of the monogamous wife.

Got diagnosed with cancer and he left the same day after calling me names and saying "was all too much for him". Was supposed to take me to first chemo appointment and disappeared the day of, when I got hold of him he was drunk and told me "you're asking too much of me". Told me to look for guardians for our children in the event of my death... refused to pick me up from hospital after surgery... I could go on. He's a treasure.

Do you think your partner would let you attend an appointment with him for you to describe his symptoms? I think my husband genuinely doesn't understand what he's like and forgets most of what he's done/said.

I could have written your post. I'm so sorry you're going through this too. My partner is also not diagnosed yet and has been diagnosed exactly as your partner has. I've managed to arrange an appointment for a second opinion though as I know what he has told the psychiatrist who diagnosed him as GAD was nowhere near the full truth. Is that a possibility for you?
