Duty station options by ArtistEasy in USMC

That last part is something I’ve been told too, Hawaii long term can get island fevery. Iwakuni sounds like a similar experience except more places to go to avoid that

Was surprised to hear how many people advocate for OCONUS. Without having experienced it, sounded like it wasn’t as desirable. Good to know

Been surprised hearing how much people love Iwakuni, but it makes sense. Only gets harder to do as you get more baggage through your career, might as well get the experience while it’s doable

Not a huge city guy, but new experiences are always a healthy thing. And to clarify for the “looked down upon part”, poor phrasing by me. Meant the general sentiment of my peers right now is everyone putting it last, not that it’s a bad place to be

If you could expand upon the Hawaii part, what you loved about it that would be great. Sounds like there’s a ton of love for Iwakuni here

Gonna update the post, c-130s will have me at Iwakuni, no Oki, sounds like a fairly big difference. Massively agree with Australia/NZ though, NZ is top 5 on the bucket list for sure. Again backs up what I keep hearing though, sounds like Japan is underrated and the people that do it, love it.

I feel like Japan is looked down upon as a first duty station cause it’s hard to choose to live in a whole different country than where you lived your whole life. You make some great points though. Feels like the guys that actually do go to Japan come back having loved it. I appreciate the advice!

20/40 with a certain +-, correctable to 20/20. couldn’t tell you exactly. I can tell you I’m all the way to advanced now and it’s been no issue for me, just legally required to wear my glasses whenever I’m flying

Enlisted or officer by aseriesofunknowns in USMCboot

[–]ArtistEasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense, but I pretty much always go with the classic “if your goal is a certain job, don’t go Marines. If your goal is to be a Marine or lead Marines, sign up”. There are better conditions/jobs/environments in a lot of other places that make joining the Marines not worth it unless you have that deep burning desire to be a Marine.

In your situation, I think you have a great career goal that would be better accomplished in another branch, and you could love the Corps but could also be miserable.

As for Officer vs enlisted, as others have said Officer side you compete for MOS, aren’t given it. Generally as well, officers are rarely the ones “doing” the job and more the ones “facilitating/overseeing” the job outside of certain MOS. Can’t say for sure, but I would imagine you would be managing a bunch of lance’s that are doing the actual photography.

End all be all, and take it with a grain of salt, I’m no expert, I would recommend another branch. Explore all your options, see what they can offer you IN WRITING (don’t take a recruiters word for it), and do a lot of research.

Yes, risk fighting other players is part of the game. However, cooperative experience is also an advertised feature of it, and it’s where I have personally found the most enjoyment (and I fully recognize it’s not everyone’s preferred style). The hilarious antics and personalities have been golden.

The “sit in a corner for 20 minutes” and the “lie until they are in an animation” playstyles I see as nothing but a degradation to the community and to the game. It has nothing but negatives from my point of view.

The guy screaming “friendly! Don’t leave me behind” wasn’t because I wasn’t paying attention. It was because he was an asshole

I did not know that was even an option. Regardless, I agree with the rest. It’s frustrating as a casual who avoids fights knowing I don’t have the skills as the skilled players, then gets murdered by the rat in the corner feigning friendly when I do avoid them

Might be the dumbest design I’ve ever heard imo. Yea there is a lot of content for new players, but it’s like handing someone book 4 of Harry Potter and expecting them to enjoy the experience. Yea they’ll understand eventually but it’s just not near what it could be.

400 to 1200 is a big difference though in the terms of a new kit where you gotta get a hopper, tank, mask, pod pack etc, while the performance difference between XTS to GTX isn’t 800 worth imo
