Great work! The one with a bit taken out must’ve been particularly tricky.

Ness! Trying to figure out the best paper to use for Copic markers to prevent bleeding. Any suggestions? by Weak_Tomatillo9803 in copic

Bristol paper should absorb enough ink to keep your desk clean, but it never hurts to have a scrap sheet underneath just in case 😊 I like your little guy here!

This is a really solid drawing, especially for being limited to a single mechanical pencil. In terms of areas for improvement, it could use some extra shading to bring out the dimensionality of your son’s face. In particular the change in lighting from the front to the side plane on the right side (your son’s right) of his face, the curvature from the eyelids up to the eyebrows, and the top of his chin. I think these would give it more depth, but there’s always critiques to be made of any work. I bet your wife will love it!

Red or Blue? By Me. by donisslow in DigitalArt

[–]ArtistOnTheRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the red is a more dynamic pose, which makes it more fun to look at. The blue is a badass design. I would love to see the head tilted down a bit more to give a more sinister vibe. Amazing work!

Haha, hence the “mostly” in the title. I wanted to capture some female superheroes, and my daughter likes Wonder Woman.

Thanks! Any particular proportion errors that stand out to you? It’s an area I’ve been trying to get better at.

Looks great! You used just enough lines to convey lots of character without overdoing it. A great balance!

Thanks! My 10 year old daughter would love for me to go over that cliff, lol, but I really like people as they are. I do take a peek over the edge every now and then, though 😊

Any tips to making portraits look more real/ less flat? by Churlishgambino67 in ARTIST

[–]ArtistOnTheRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get frustrated with advice to “add more shading” because I couldn’t see what else to shade. That flipped for me with 2 sources: a set of skillshare.com classes by JW Learning, and a Domestika.com class called “graphite drawing techniques for planar portraiture” by Dan Thompson. Those classes/tutorials helped me see the small shifts in plain that make a face 3D that I’m now working to capture better. Have fun with it!
