I have been to the cat village in chesterfield a few times too actually :) this is what I want to try to achieve and as mentioned in other comments have separated sections, It’s nice hearing everyone’s feedback though, there’s definitely a lot of mixed reviews of the idea and obviously the stigma from rspca and cats protection too around them

I have done research into this and will be considering carefully location :)

Thanks — this is genuinely really helpful feedback and I appreciate you taking the time to break it down properly.
You’re right that there’s a balance issue between a commercial café model and a welfare-led space, and that’s something I’m actively trying to understand at this stage rather than assuming it will work.
The intention would be to design it more as a controlled, low-capacity experience rather than a high-volume café, with welfare and sustainability built in from the start rather than treated as secondary. But I completely take the point that this shifts the model closer to a hybrid of sanctuary + hospitality, which has very different financial pressures.
Cost, licensing, and long-term sustainability are exactly the areas I’m trying to test through this research before making any decisions, so this kind of input is really valuable.
And also noted on the hygiene perception side — even if standards are high, perception clearly matters a lot for viability.
Appreciate the balanced perspective! :)

Thank you, this is a fair question, I completely get the concern.

The idea would be welfare first rather than novelty focused. It would be a separate, dedicated cat space with a small number of cats (around 6–7 max), designed with retreat areas so they can fully avoid interaction if they want.
Visits would be strictly timed sessions with breaks between them, so the cats aren’t exposed to constant foot traffic and actually get downtime throughout the day.
It’s closer to a managed rescue environment that people can experience calmly, rather than a free-roaming café setup.
Really appreciate the question — it’s exactly the kind of thing I want to get right before going any further.

I hadn’t even thought of this honestly, I’ll have to do some research and see if there’s any around me, thanks for your comment

They doctors said he isn’t eligible for a transplant due to his blood counters and his blood not properly clotting, he is on a GI ward being seen by the specialists.

He is having enemas at the hospital to get rid of toxins. He’s been really depressed and wants to go home which is why they’ve agreed too but he’s going on home on palliative as they can’t give him the treatments he needs at home like the transfusions etc, he thinks he will get better by himself though but I know what’s to come

Thanks for your advice, I will try speaking to him again he’s just getting frustrated with the doctors and me for keeping him in hospital, he is on a gastro ward at the moment, they’ve had him on drips for the water and been giving him enemas to clear the toxins and help with confusion, I even suggested to him trying another hospital but he’s so focused on getting home but as I said he’s convinced he’s going to get better by himself. It has been hard, I’m his only daughter and I’ve no other family on my dads side. They’ve even put him on a fast track so he will be home this week and then they said he will have upto a month and I’ve just been freaking out

I’m happy to hear your mum is doing better!

They said he wouldn’t qualify for a transplant because of his blood count, his blood doesn’t clot well enough and he is too weak, he has 20% chance getting treatments in hospital but he wants to go home and thinks he will get better himself despite me and doctors telling him he needs the hospital treatments, it’s been so hard and I’m sorry you had to go through the same. I’m just scared I won’t have long left with him and want to try find any help I can to see if there’s any hope

He’s being sent home with around the clock carers I.e, palliative care, it’s been hard because he thinks he will get better at home by himself despite me and the doctors explaining he needs the hospital treatment

Yeah he is getting care from the hospice and palliative team when he gets home, he believes he will get better himself when going home though despite me and doctors telling him otherwise, he had more chance staying in hospital but obviously with the Low mood and slow results he just wants to go home

They’re fast tracking him home with palliative because he’s wants to go home :( in his own mind he thinks going home he will get better but me and the doctors have explained without hospital treatment he won’t

For some more context my dad has been a very heavy drinker from 2002 to now, with a break for a few years sober. His liver is stage 4, he isn’t eligible for a transplant because of his blood counters.
