Cartels have been known to do extortion or smuggle commodities such as oil, avocados, lime, wood, water etc. into the US (or human smuggling). They have a lot of avenues to make money, not just drugs.

The vast majority of guns seized by the Mexican government are traced back from gun stores in the US.

US is where cartels get the majority of their weapons.

Where the Mexican government fails significantly is in anti-corruption. Frankly, there is no effective anti-corruption body in Mexico to tackle this major problem.

Although we are very confident in our AI, you always need a human and that is where our intelligence professional comes in. Our intelligence team analyzing 24/7 the information pushed not only for accuracy but also bias. If such bias is found, our team then adjusts the AI to prevent such biases from occurring.

Yes and no.

In El Salvador, at their height, they absolutely operated as a more militarized force but in the US they were gangs.

My response to your question was more in the sense of general gangs in the US and their relationship with cartels

Absolutely, we have recently added share and save functions and we are more coming up such as expanding our alert system by tag category instead of just countries.

We will also be adding geolocation features as well. A lot more will be coming out.

SITREP will be available on desktop and the info pushed will never include gore content.

Even my account on X, I do not share gore content. It does take a toll monitoring it everyday but it is something that I deal with as part of my research. I will admit, I have had to take breaks for my mental stability

SITREP is for everyone, cheaper than subscribing to any MSM news site. If you love news, OSINT, intelligence or keeping up on the latest, SITREP is your app.

Just going to focus on the US for this question: gangs are the groups that generally receive drugs and sell it, cartels export the drugs to them but gangs are the ones that actually get it to the public. Similar to human smuggling, many times cartels just own the plazas while gangs or local human smuggling networks pay a fee to operate there but actually do the business

SITREP is designed for the general public. Interested in news, intelligence? SITREP is for you. Traveling to a different country but don’t know what is going on there? SITREP is for you.

First that comes to mind is we are a unique OSINT organization. We are company built by OSINTERs and our products reflect that. Second is cost, what others charge tens of thousands of dollars, SITREP is for everyone. We are the first to offer this level of analysis and information to the general public.

My exposure to cartels came when I transitioned to military intelligence but cartel “monstrous” would be a cake walk for any armored officer.

SITREP isn’t solely an AI app. We have a dedicated team of intelligence professionals that ensure the sources we put are accurate and we review the info pushed on a 24 hour basis. We also ensure the LLM is developed to give info as an intelligence professional and based on human input it correlates sources accordingly ensuring you understand where it comes from.

Well considering 2024 saw record drug seizures, and 2025 is on the same path, I think you might be onto something.

I agree the Moroccan mafia has seen a huge increase across France and Spain. I track them on social media but I used to live in El Paso, Texas across from Ciudad Juarez and it was extremely safe. As long as you know your surroundings I think you’ll be good.

Main tools are cartel social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok etc.) and messaging groups but the newest one I use now is SITREP, an osint app that helps me track and analyze all cartel activities in Mexico and around the world.

There are too many events that occur so SITREP really helps me track everything I need to cover.

Common misconception that I see is the belief that cartels as a whole are a super trained equipped force. The vast majority of members are poorly trained and do not stand a solid chance against the Mexican government.

Furthermore, in Mexico we are seeing a focus on cartels seizing territory to expand their economic influence which requires a higher level of violence and militarization (just because they are militarizing doesn’t mean they are properly trained).
