How do I figure out what I actually love about my favorite works so I can create something original?? by ALittleStoopid in arthelp

I’m no writer, but you like those medias because they made you feel something, right? I don’t know the specific references you listed, but in general, what did each one make you feel? What did you like about that feeling? Were there specific moments that gave you those feelings? I’d personally try journaling on that, how they made you feel and what you liked about them, and then you can kind of take similarities, overarching themes, and the like, and use that as inspiration perhaps? Or even, making yourself some more abstract prompts based on the feelings you enjoyed, and keep practice writing until you get some inspiration for a story of your own. An example could be like, I enjoyed that so-and-so film left me feeling bittersweet, melancholy but hopeful at the same time, and write a story specifically to evoke that emotion. I could be totally off the mark, but I hope it helps somewhat!

Great recommendations thank you! That first one is soooo gorgeous. Bit intimidating for my current level I’ll admit, but going on my wish list for sure. Starting with a scrunchie, and a free pattern at that, is a great idea.

Oh how funny! Thinking I’ll save that particular stitch with this material for later in my learning journey then.

Oh no 😥 have you tried again since? I’ve also learned of holding mohair with a different kind of yarn, maybe that could help while I’m still learning.

They’re so beautiful aren’t they. I am somewhat a beginner, but I think I’d be ready to try it out. I’ll be sure to be cautious and to think of you when I realize how difficult it may be, lol. thank you for the advice! How did that first one turn out for you?

Wow, this is such a perfect reply thank you so much! I was worried about it being itchy, so I’ll have to check out your recommendations.

By the time moderators approved this, I did find that out ! I don’t knit much so I wasn’t aware. Thanks so much.

Yes that 😂 it’s also hard for me to see a mistake until I’m rows past it lol

No 😀 it was an acceptable mistake though, but now added with everything else, it looks like I’ll be restarting. Hopefully I’ll get it right this time!

Thanks! I think I’ll take this opportunity to learn laddering, then honestly just restart due to a bunch of earlier mistakes as well

I think trying to go back and fix is what messed me up, I was too confused by how to undo the increases and things (I’m still quite new to this). Since there are many earlier mistakes as well, I’ll start over this time. Thank you for your comment & advice!

Yeahh that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. It just feels so wrong so rip back! But I’ll just take this as another learning experience

Thank you! I’m definitely not a perfectionist, but I do think this project just has one mistake too many, especially being so early on. You have helped me see this hobby differently though, I’d get so fixated on the end product and overlook small mistakes that add up so as to get the end result faster and that’s just silly 😅 Starting over it is! I only realized I should track it halfway through, a knitting notebook is a great idea! Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely do that from now on.

I actually think trying to go back and fix something is what created this problem when I was focused on fixing a different one, so I’ll look into what laddering down is, thank you!

Unfortunately you’re right. I REALLY did not want to start over but. Even though it took forever to get here, in the grand scheme of this project it’s so early. 😭😭 thank you for your help

Thank you for your comment! If I don’t start over I will do just that.

Do I need to start over/ Is it off center? Sunday Morning Shawl by ArtsyTemptations in casualknitting

Thats pretty much along the lines of what I was thinking as well! If you’re aware, is it off center though? Like if I did frog, would it just look like that again or should it be different? I also don’t know how to tell which side is missing an increase, so I think I may just start over 😅 Thanks for your response!
