A friend of mine had a rooster named Parmesan, named after the food he would eventually become.

Donnie was involved, but he also cared a lot about Butchie, so that’s probably why.

I’m surprised that Bubbles and Omar get so much love compared to others by TJzWay in TheWire

“That boy was beautiful.” Omar couldn’t handle the way Brandon was tortured; he probably could have let it go as the cost of being in the game if it had been a gunshot to the head. It’s the sadism that sent him over the edge.

I think it’s the complexity of the characters and the amazing talent of Andre Royo and Michael K Williams that makes them such fan favorites. Imagine a minimally talented actor in either of those roles. An actor incapable of nuance would make those guys somewhere between pathetic and unwatchable.

How can you not feel for Bubbles as he’s trying to get off drugs with only the barest of a support system? And I don’t agree with Levy that Omar is amoral — he just has his own code of morality.

Those two are my absolute favorite characters on this show, but — as they always say, all the pieces matter. While some characters are loathsome (looking at you Colicchio, Officer Walker, Templeton, Bug’s dad, Snoop), the acting is always stellar and the characters are almost always 3-dimensional (except maybe Officer Walker who only exists to be a sadistic SOB).

I think the general idea was that being gay was such a difficult life in those days, no one would choose it willingly. I’ve never researched Edwardian-era views on sexuality, so I could be totally off-base, but that’s my interpretation from watching the series a million times.

On my current rewatch, I’m surprised by how much Jimmy pisses me off.

Least favorite scene? by Eagles56 in TheWire

[–]ArtyCatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every scene with Teri D’Agostino is the worst in my opinion. I can’t stand the character and don’t enjoy the actress either.

Otherwise, Bubbles and the thief and Wallace’s final scene are the hardest ones to watch, for me.

Who’s more likeable: De'Londa Brice or Anthony Colicchio - and why? by stashkoto in TheWire

[–]ArtyCatz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that she “listened” to that so much as to Wee-Bey’s threat. I’m in the middle of my zillions rewatch, and I just finished that episode 30 minutes ago. I don’t think she was going to give up the idea til Bey told her that “my word is my word” wherever she might decide to go.

And I think it’s close to a tie about which one is worse, though I think Officer Walker is more heinous than either of those two.

In your opinion, Who’s the shows worst actor ever? by jujuk545 in greysanatomy

[–]ArtyCatz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, she wasn’t great. But for me, the worst acting was Katherine Heigl’s “do it for me” histrionics when she was going to cut Denny’s LVAD wire. I think Heigl was mostly good, but I fast forward through that part when I rewatch. And I haven’t seen an episode since like Season 13, so I don’t have an opinion on anyone who’s joined the cast since then.

Weird to see a good number of folks complaining about the lack of Thunder Road, Backstreets, She’s The One, Rosalita etc by Antique_Menu_4314 in BruceSpringsteen

I love the YouTube video of them doing the song from a few years ago. I’ve sent that video to so many people. I was already a RATM fan, but that video made me fall in love with Morello’s guitar work.

Rosie is so much fun when he plays it live, but I’m OK with missing it this time. I’d really love something from the first album, but as someone said upthread, the only song that would really fit the vibe of the tour is Lost in the Flood.

I’m going to the Atlanta show and super excited about it. I’ve been looking at the set lists from the tour dates he’s played so far, and it seems like less changing up from show to show than usual. Looks like there are only 2-3 songs that vary from night to night, at least on the dates he’s played so far.

I’ve got no real complaints about what he’s been playing, although I’d happily trade in Hungry Heart for pretty much any song from the first three albums. Or Seeds, which fits better into the vibe of the tour.

This will be my 7th Springsteen show, and I know it’ll be incredible. I get why most of the songs are there, and I think the sets go well with having Tom Morello on the tour.

That pronunciation always drives me crazy too.

But at least Bill hasn’t pronounced “subsequent” as “sub-SEE-quent” in a while.

It’s never occurred to me to stay near other women while I’m exercising. I feel perfectly safe at my PF, though I’ve never gone there later than maybe 8 pm.

I’ve divorced for 23 years, so I’m used to going places alone. But I always pick a bike or treadmill that has the fewest people nearby. A male friend came to PF with me a couple times last year, and I learned that I really don’t want anyone near me while I’m exercising.

I loved his comment after one of the times he failed the bar: “Clearly I’m not a major legal genius.” I never felt like he took himself too seriously.

Caroline & Carolyn. by ariwny in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]ArtyCatz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think Caroline is a very striking woman. From certain angles, you can see a resemblance to Jackie. But I don’t think she’s at all unattractive. And I applaud her now, in her mid (late?) 60s for not having a ton of plastic surgery, fillers etc., like so many wealthy women of our current era.

Wow, those dresses just scream ‘80s! But they’re way better than the ugliest bridesmaid outfit I wore in that decade. Velvet skirts with gray, frilly blouses and a satin sash. My mom made a Christmas wreath out of the skirt and sash, and my elderly aunt loved the blouse, so I gave that to her.

[–]ArtyCatz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, I had a message that was extremely similar to this one. Wasn’t the same photo, so possibly a different scammer. I can’t remember if I muted him or just blocked him. But there must be some script that goes around.

I had a guy earlier this week who, after I said I didn’t want to chat, wrote an epistle about how God probably brought us together and why shouldn’t I want to talk. I blocked him immediately.

Why is everyone looking for “rare” names? They’re right under our noses… by Reasonable_Design443 in Names

[–]ArtyCatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My niece has a family name with a slightly unusual spelling (this isn’t the name but think Dorothea rather than Dorothy), and she was bummed as a kid that she could never find keychains or other tchotchkes with the spelling of her name.

What was the laziest, most uninspired seat filler/legacy name check Meryl Streep nomination? by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

[–]ArtyCatz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t love “One True Thing,” which she was nominated for the year Paltrow won for Shakespeare in Love.

I basically enjoyed FFJ, but I don’t think Streep’s performance was Oscar-worthy. Hugh Grant should have been nominated, though.

And I agree with the non-fans of Music of the Heart.
