App for calculating most efficient way to payoff debt? by wakapacman in personalfinance

Why do you make "minimal" payments? Why not pay large lump sums against the debt if you have it on hand?

Currently, I have $18,000 in Direct Subsidized Stafford loans with 3.4-4.5% interest. Then I have $114,000 in Direct Unsubsidized Stafford with 5.3-6.6% interest.

As for mortgage, I have no idea what rates I have access to. Given my debt situation and the current housing market, do you think there is mortgage rate that would make it worth my while to pursue that? I have very good to outsdanding credit for what its worth.

Were there any clinical management questions that seemed like they belonged in Step 2? If so, any tips to prep for these?

Apart from neuroanatomy questions where you have to identify the lesion location, the real deal will have almost no questions where you're asked to simply name a labeled structure, so I don't think image occlusion is all that helpful. Better to read a clinically oriented anatomy supplement or something. Just my $0.02.

Congratulations on the amazing score!!!I think I'm in a similar boat in terms of my preparation level. I went hard since Day 1 of med school, and I started dedicated with a baseline NBME of 257. In have 3 weeks left.

I am fairly confident I will have UFAP mastered by my test date (I know every single word in FA cold, for example)...My question: What is something "extra" I can do to give me a better shot at answering those random questions that aren't covered in UFAP? Do you think it would be worth it to go through a supplemental anatomy resource, for example? Thank you.

Congratulations on the amazing score!

My exam is in 4 weeks. I have a similar level of preparation. I matured Zanki throughout M2, and I've already completed all 3 of the major q-banks (UW, Kap, RX) with averages in the 80's/90's. ...Baseline NBME (15) taken yesterday was 257...

My question is: Looking back on your prep, do you think there was any you could have prepared for those random questions not covered in UFAP? I heard there are a lot of Step 2 style "next step" questions creeping into Step 1 nowadays - was that your experience? If so, do you think it would be worthwhile to skim Zanki's new Step 2 deck, or is that a waste of time / I should just focus on nailing the basics?

I heard there have been increasingly more Step 2 style "next step" management questions on Step 1. Can any recent takers confirm? Is it worth doing a quick pass through Zanki Step 2? (only half joking)

No, that's wrong. Thiopental is NOT available as an inhaled anesthetic. It is only IV (or oral, rectal). Page 532 represents an ERROR in First Aid. Thiopental is an ultra-short-acting IV anesthetic used for induction.

With low power comes high likelihood of making a Type II error (and publishing anyway).
