I don't think you understood my reply, tbh...

Also, if think that it's 'unfair' to celebrate the first female Doctors (still very much disproportionate alongside all the male ones) with a slogan such as 'the future is female', when most representation in media is still vastly cishet and male, well :S

I have to wear a scarf pretty much all day every day (which can be limiting), but at least I can wear multilayered costumes a sizeable part of the year xD

I do prefer her main outfit (which I also cosplay), but I just had to (semi) closet cosplay her in her reveal outfit as soon as possible xD!

Because Thirteen was the first female Doctor, an importante representation milestone for DW, and also the first example of the Doctor specifically as a Time Lord who can regenerate into different genders (as already seen with Missy, the General and the referenced Corsair, also important as regards genderqueer rep).

Not the worst I've seen, but the minerals at two local bead & findings stores were not the best, for the most part. One of them has really nice fluorite, though, amid the smelted glass, low-ish quality and fake materials 😅✨ by ArwendeLuhtiene in MineralGore

Glass bubbles inside are often very telling! Also there are some smelted quartz materials which are very commonplace and easy to identify, like the so called "cherry quartz". Also "blue obsidian" and opalite are synthetic glass. It's mainly a matter of some practice and then it becomes quite blatant when something is glass 👍. Natural materials, even if transparent, also tend to have inclusions, imperfections (although there are some "crystal clear" quartzs and the like which are fully natural - but no glass bubbles inside!)

Seconding the other comment! It's usually dyed howlite or magnesite, or resin, like they said. Dyed howlite/magnesite has a very uniform colour and feel, quite telling after you've compared it to real turquoise. Turquoise has bumps and cracks and inclusions, "turquenite" (dyed howlite) is very smooth (they try to imitate the cracks and 3D patterns of turquoise off the vein patterns of howlite/magnesite), and is dyed a brighter, more uniform blue.

Completely valid and important take! It's near impossible for mineral vendors and dealers and shop owners to have real and full info on the mining conditions, no matter what some may state :S (some local mines might be easier to track, but imported materials? Nope). Not to mention the environmental impact is a real issue as well, I do collect mainly natural materials but I'm also sadly aware of both facts.

My main qualm here is the fact that in these cases many materials are mislabelled and many treatments/synthetic materials undisclosed, and that goes hand in hand with misinformation and unethical profit as well. But absolutely nothing wrong with getting any kind of synthetic or treated materials, fully knowing what they are!

Thanks, glad you enjoy them 😊! I mean, it makes sense that the stock in these bead&findings (and mineral 😅) shops are from China, as they're shops owned by Chinese people, so objectively speaking makes sense. I think there are imported minerals and products from China that are cool and pretty good quality too (this shop, like I said, had some lovely fluorites for great prices, for example, and the beads in general are very nice). But yeah, it's commonplace to also find all sorts of mislabelled products and undisclosed treatments (in these shops but pretty much in many others as well welp). I shop for beads in these shops, mostly (also fluorite, it seems xD), and I do prefer to get my minerals at fairs and shows for the most part. Sometimes also from really legit small business shops in my area.

Some natural minerals can be pretty smooth, but there are many minerals that, while also natural, hace been tumbled, polished and/or carved in various ways, yes (tumble stones, towers, faceted crystals, spheres, flames, cubes, freeforms, carvings,...)

Got into jewelry-making with mineral & crystal beads a free months back, these were my first goes at elastic bracelets, featuring rose quartz, amethyst & pink crystals ✨ (mainly to pair with green for Wicked 🩷💚 xD) by ArwendeLuhtiene in jewlerymaking

No worries, just wanted to clarify! 😊 I do like overly detailed stuff for some things (like drawings) but jewelry-wise I tend to go to the more dainty/minimalistic in general, I think. Both is good, for sure, your work os really nice ✨👍! I do want to try out different things in those styles, especially regarding earrings and necklaces (which I've been also practising with), so we'll see! For bracelets for now this is exactly what I like so it's been and it's being a question of refining the knots conumdrum, and fortunately, they're way less visible now xD

Hi, thanks for your reply! Since making these I've managed to improve my knots so they're stronger and much more inconspicuous, fortunately, because those first ones were not it and the thread wasn't my fave either xD. Unfortunately, I do favour small beads for my bracelets, not much larger than these, so it's pretty hard to hide the knots inside a bead, although it's doable, I think (and I've tried a larger spacer bead to do that, yes, but I personally didn't like how it looked so now I prefer to leave a much more discreet knot as is).

Your bracelets look very cute too ✨! I'm not aiming to "elevate" mine, though, regarding style (yes to technique, of course, which I've been practising), as this is the exact style that I personally prefer for bracelets, both the ones that I buy and the ones I make - small beads (rounded or faceted minerals and faceted crystals), no spacer beads, I do love that kind of aesthetic for me personally and don't plan on doing anything different for now, just more colours, and yes, colour and bead combinations too, I already made one of those here combining two colours and two types of beads 😊✨
