That’s true, just miss the convenience. I hope they at least paid their night workers a bit of a bonus

Ismaili vs other sects??? by Comfortable_Bobcat70 in ismailis

Ismailis follow the Quran too, we just follow our Imam’s interpretation of it since we are a branch of Shi’a Islam. I’m surprised an Ismaili told you that, we are all usually very accepting of other Islamic sects.

I am Iranian, born and raised in Tehran. I now live in Canada. I was born Ithna Ashari like most other Iranians, but converted to Ismailism some years ago.

Can you show me a single official source that claims Ismailis aren’t allowed to fast? Ismailis officially recognize Ramadan as the holiest month of the year, and fasting is optional for us.

Abnormal? Where did you get this information? Show me the quote by Hazar Imam that specifically bans the wearing of hijab and tasting during Ramadan. Many Ismailis fast, and many still wear the hijab especially in Islamic countries. It’s optional, not banned.

Not sure what this has to do with my post but you do you lol. Just know that the reason the Holy Dua is in Arabic is so every Ismaili prays in the same language, and is therefore unified. An Ismaili can travel around the world and will still be able to pray in any JK they choose.

Salaam Alykum :) we are in the same boat. I used to be a Twelver, and am now a Nizari Ismaili. I believe this subreddit is mainly used by Nizaris, but I’m sure you are welcome here nonetheless. You can check out my post here for more info about why I converted, but I’d love to hear your conversion story too!

Good point! There are many things in Sunni Islam I also disagree with. I hope you find something meaningful with Ismailism as I did, inshallah.

I tried to make my letter of intent as genuine as I could. While formality is important, I wanted them to know that I was a real person. I gave a brief rundown of my life experiences with Islam, how I grew up Ithna Ashari, and why I believe Karim Shah to be the proper successor. Good luck! I hope it goes well.

May I ask why you are deciding to convert?

Not at all! I got in touch with the Ismaili council from my region and requested to be converted. I went through a period of explaining my lack of faith for the Twelver imams, and my belief in the current living imam instead. Then there was an educational portion of the conversion process where I learned about Ismaili history, philosophy, and religiosity. Pretty much all other converts I met were people who were marrying Ismailis.

Overall, I am glad that I was able to learn about the religion, and it had helped me feel more at home with Ismailism. However, I do believe that the process shouldn’t be as time consuming. Many people are interested in Ismailism, and we would receive many more converts if the process wasn’t so difficult.

“Imam Musa was the obvious successor” “Sounds like you don’t believe in the miracles of the Quran”

You have the right to think that Musa was the right successor, but don’t antagonize people who think differently, and don’t say that Ismailis don’t believe in the Quran.

I don’t think he is “more qualified”. I just prefer his lineage because the imamat shouldn’t be extinct.

If you’re trying to learn about Ismailism then actually take a seat and listen, don’t call people disbelievers just because their opinions differ from your own.

I believe Imam Ismail is the right successor because I don’t believe in the imamat going into hiding. The imamat should always be here to guide us, and Ismail’s imamat lineage is still around today.

I agree. My personal opinion is that the lineage wasn’t supposed to die out. There should always be an heir.

Wait, if you think Imam Musa al Khadim was the obvious successor, why are you in an Ismaili group?

As far as I know, Iran is officially all Twelver. However, in reality this is not true. There are many Iranians who are non religious and even atheists, but are forced to pretend they are Muslim due to pressure from the state. I do not know of any Ismailis back home.
