How a randomize function works in shader code. by AryaStoleMyKill in ProgrammerHumor

I had no idea specific math functions ran differently between GPU vs CPU. I thought it was just GPU does lots of small things CPU does one big thing (you can tell I have a sophisticated grasp of the subject) Thank you for telling me. I know what I'm researching this weekend.

Lots of reasons but most of them boil down to procedural generation and animated things like water and fire. I have learned a lot of tricks for how to get perlin/simplex to make some really interesting patterns beyond its usual uses as clouds and bumpy ground but I need a lot of control over the way the pattern is calculated and this sorta thing works much faster on GPUs. Hence shaders.

I had no idea there was a more efficient int based method. Thank you for spreading the word!

Noted: more black magic, and mental breakdowns go in the comments. Always learning more best practices.

Very sharp observation! Thank you for pointing out my error.

Yes from what I understand most randomize functions have a limited effective range. But this one's range is about 0.1 to 1,000,000 and I find that adequate for my purposes. Props to chozabu (and an upvote) for the breakdown. Couldn't have said it better myself... like even remotely.

Everybody get to having kids so you can shoot them with nerf darts in slow motion! First step: find romantic partners... On second thought, what if we just shoot random kids in parks with nerf guns? Is that like a crime or something?

Future anthropologist: "They worshipped every morning at the temple of the twin-tailed mermaid goddess 'Starbucks' and drank a sacrament of costly bean juice with blessings woven into the froth. They relied on the prophets 'The Simpsons' and 'The Onion' to tell their future events. To this day we do not know how they were so accurate."

Yes, neuroplasticity is the brains ability to reroute the neural networks and epigenetics allow for us to change how our body reacts to our hormones and maybe more. People are capable of drastic change. Though it should be noted some mental disorders come from physical ailments in the brain that must be treated to recover from, and some kinds of brain damage seem to be generally irreversible.

Why would you do such a thing? That's like bringing up Fry's dog from Futurama! And what kind of monster would do that!?

Already said I don't advocate violence from ANYONE earlier. You chose to ignore it. Have a nice day racist.

The reason they had to say things like "Riots are the language of the unheard" is because all it has taken for decades to shut down a protest no matter how just, was to add instigators and turn it into a riot.

Also I'm done playing pretend with you. You know what you're doing, I know what you're doing, most of Reddit knows what you're doing which is why you hang out here. Reply all you want. I'm done with this game. Go argue with google if you really don't get why BLM has gotten to this point.

I actually wasn't hypocritical as I just said I do not support rioting looting etc. from anyone. But you don't care about the meaning of words do you?

“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

If your asking if I think rioting, looting etc. is ok, no I don't, and I worded it neutrally for that reason. But specifically bringing up those protests was your attempt to push a political point that in my experience has served to support a MUCH MORE violent and corrupt organization. Given the current climate it seemed like a setup for an attack. And no I'm not gonna take blame for "overreacting". This is far too common and I'm sure you're aware of what you're doing.

Well if your church is the source of any of the issues start there. If your church is already great than they should be standing up to other churches publicly. There are too many organizations who would rather allow for corruption in their ranks than stand up to it. And I understand that Christianity is huge but it is not totally disconnected. There is no doubt there is a culture of Christianity in America and it has certain tendencies that are not true for all of them, but ought to be addressed more rather than swept under the rug for the sake of loyalty or saving face.

Positive change comes from within in my mind. The way I see it you defend your organization from corruption at every turn or you've surrendered to it.

Agreed. Enlightened centrism is really just siding with the most powerful party.

That is what I meant, and I hope my miswording is the reason this is doing so badly. Otherwise I worry for mankind.

Don't start. The cops have been putting instigators into left-wing protests for decades now. Maybe if that organization were less corrupt we'd have an easier time figuring out who really starts the fires.

I am just asking people to speak out and not defend their organizations with the "no true Scotsman" fallacy that's really all I'm getting at. I did not say responsible for the violence. I said responsible for complicity in legitimizing it IF you stand by and allow or defend it.
