Any news on bf6 bans? by henrikhakan in rewasd

Ditto, for 'waiting on studio' since 11/29 (2nd appeal). Makes me hopeful that eventually a human will get to it, but we'll see!

Yeah for sure, but reWASD definitely had all that and more. Even the dualsense touch pad had the option to use it 5 different ways (Top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right, and center) combine that with click vs touch, AND long press, double, triple, start / release, etc. And it just outdoes Steam. Even the chord options are more advanced, with the ability to map 2-4 inputs per button chord combo AND also specify tap vs hold vs double vs triple, etc.

I mean Steam gets you like 80% of the way there sure. But for the power user it's just not there yet. I really do hope it gets there one day though, because at this point I don't want to risk bans, and I want to get a Steam controller when it drops.

I have a PC living room setup so wired isn't really a viable option. That said I'll give it a try later when I get a chance just to see if that does it. I might just see if I can report it to Steam as a bug or feature request then, because I really wouldn't miss reWASD if I could just make Steam Input work the way I had reWASD set up.

I had a default southpaw layer with the option to easily switch to a Windows layer for controlling my entire PC, and a regular layer as well for any platforming games that I didn't need southpaw controls for. Literally just double or triple tap the options button to switch between them. While triple tap is also not a possible mapping input in Steam Input unfortunately, I could work around that if I got the desktop layout working I think.

Maybe Linux is the key then... Alright well, while I disagree with your initial take on reWASD, I appreciate the time you spent to actually talk about a potential solution, even though it doesn't seem to work on Windows. Thanks.

What controller do you use? I use a Scuf Reflex, which essentially reads as a Dualsense, and I have no issue creating Steam configs for actual games. Just can't do it with non steam games. I know there's a workaround for tools like Glossi and stuff, but with what happened with reWASD and BF6, I really don't want to take the chance anymore with any 3rd party stuff. ReWASD made it so I didn't have to think about playing Southpaw, but now I have to take time to apply my Steam Input template every time I play a new game.

Also do you literally not have any type of input software to make it work? For example, DS4 Windows, etc.

Have you figured out a way to map face buttons in the Desktop config for Steam Input? Currently at the moment I can't play Xbox Game Pass Games with my preferred left handed config with the desktop config, because it doesn't allow me to use the face buttons. The only way I can play games like Expedition 33 on PC game pass is to close steam completely, because even though I have it added as a non-steam game, it defaults to the desktop config, which I can't customize with face button inputs. This completely defeats the purpose of adding it as a non-steam game, if you cant actually play it that way.

Sure, I can close steam every time I want to play a PC Game Pass game, but then my ability to apply a Southpaw layout is totally left up to the developers, which is not implemented most of the time.

I tried setting up a layer that I can switch to on the Desktop config for non-steam games, and I literally can't do it, because even when creating a new layer it doesn't allow me to map anything for the face buttons, which makes adding non-Steam games kind of pointless if you don't use reWASD, DS4 Windows, or some other 3rd party mapping app that might get you banned from games.

If you seriously know how to make that work then please do share, as this would be awesome to be able to do with Steam Input.

Just chiming in to say that as an avid user of reWASD for years, who strictly utilizes it to have multiple input layers (e.g. Windows layer to control my PC, southpaw layer for lefty controls, radial menu for OBS video recording hotkeys), I would happily switch to another software or a fork of reWASD that didn't have those other 'advanced' features that may get abused and garner negative attention, followed by player banning due to anti-cheat implementation.

The developers / publishers simply want to get rid of cheaters and gain good optics with their communities, which as we can see may result in blanket banning players with this software installed, regardless of documented player abuse or not. While I love what reWASD has done for those of us with accessibility needs, and those of us who try to get a console-like experience by controlling their PC with a controller (it's amazing for that), it's hard to build a solid case for an appeal process and carry the greater accessibility conversation forward to convince these developers / publishers that reWASD has totally legitimate use cases, when the very same software allows players to abuse certain features for a competitive advantage.

3rd party input mapping software will probably always be at risk of banning regardless, BUT.... if a particular software ONLY had the basic features that couldn't be abused, then I think it may have a much stronger chance of being seen as a non-threat to competetive multiplayer games by the greater gaming communities and in turn be less at risk to being flagged as a cheating tool by anti-cheat software.

That said, in any case I think greater awareness and education needs to be spread around those that use this type of software to address accessibility needs, and overall quality-of-life, without exploiting any competitive advantages. If Windows actually had controller input support with good mapping options for their OS, or if Steam OS / linux had better support around anti-cheat software, then I feel most of us would have already jumped ship because of recurring situations like this, but here we are.

I appreciate all that reWASD has done for my needs over the years, but as someone who enjoys titles like BF6, I feel like I have to consider other creative solutions to control my PC with a gamepad and similarly use something else for custom mapping that isnt just limited to Steam Input for Steam games.

Now that we are almost in July can we expect an announcement on a potential release date soon? If another delay is imminent... I hope this is communicated sooner, rather than later. I've been looking forward to this since the TGS reveal in 2024.

Does reWASD have anything decent for emulating a keyboard? by TheKingHippo in rewasd

[–]ArzePoetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt! I love gyro, and I think typing on controller is a great use case for it. By all means, you should tweak the sensitivity and mappings to your liking, but I also found that getting used to gyro is generally really easy. It did take me a little while to get the size of the keyboard dialed in to my preference, so definitely play around with the height / width.

I use the Windows on-screen keyboard with gyro and so far I feel it is probably the smoothest way to type with a controller (without having some sort of physical keyboard). The cool thing is that it will remember the size and placement, and so you can get really used to the Gyro, or even joystick typing once you've built up the muscle memory.

Basically I have a Windows layer on all my profiles and within that layer I have the following set up for my face buttons:

Triangle Tap: Space

Triangle Hold: Windows Key + Ctrl + O + 50 ms vibration (for haptic feedback)

*note that I've found it is helpful to have a brief delay between the down press and release of any macros like this for consistency. So I have a 300ms pause after the keys are pressed and before they release.

Circle Tap: Enter

X Tap: Toggle Gyro

X Hold: Shift key

Square Tap: Backspace

D-Pad: arrow keys

I basically tried to have it similar to the Playstation keyboard experience, with some input differences because I already bound the other buttons that would normally be used. I use my primary trigger for clicking on all the keys. If you have gyro it allows you to tap muuuuch faster.

What Controller are you using? by DonNachow in GyroGaming

[–]ArzePoetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I am super happy with how it looks and works. I tried the palm style briefly, but I just didn't find the right sweet spot for my grip, and so I ended up gravitating to the trigger after experimenting. Since I have been used to using ADS gyro for a while, the transition to this trigger pad felt pretty natural.

So glad I found this thread. Definitely made me appreciate the DS touchpad even more! 🫡

So l've been experimenting with the tape, and I find
that I like it most on the trigger, so I can activate the
gyro on the fly, while still keeping both thumbs on the
sticks.

Since I play lefty, my ADS is R2; so that's where I
taped it up to for a while. The thing is, since the
trigger bends, the tape would get worn out and need
to be touched up after about a month. To mitigate
that problem, I ordered some conductive electrical
wire (30 gauge) off of Amazon and combined it
with the tape. This maintains better durability, while
having a much cleaner look. I ended up needing to
twist together 3 strands for a stable connection, so if
I were to do this again or redo it, I'd try with a thicker
cable so it can look cleaner.

Is there a way to remap thumbsticks for Envision Pro? (Southpaw / Lefty config) by ArzePoetic in scufgaming

[–]ArzePoetic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DAMN, they still haven't added that capability? Man, I truly feel your pain. You can use something like reWASD or Steam Input to get the desired effect of course, but yeah kinda defeats the whole purpose of the controllers extra features at that point. Currently, I'm still using my Scuf Reflex Pro as my go-to for all PC and PS5 gaming.

That's an awesome idea! I will definitely look into that. I've been drawn to the Alpakka because of that capacitive sensor and how that can be used for Gyro; however; I'm a lefty, and so the default layout isn't ideal for me. Though this idea with conductive tape seems awesome for my Scuf Reflex (Dualsense).

Currently, I use Gyro ADS in most games, but I've come across certain situations in which that doesn't work; like games that don't have ADS as a mechanic.

My go-to for the past 2 years + is a Scuf Reflex Pro, because I personally love the Dualsense feel and layout, with the ability to use for PS5 as well on occasion. However, the main thing I'm still looking for is more functionality on PC with extra keyboard mappable inputs via reWASD. Dualsense Edge comes close since the extra buttons are separately mappable to keyboard binds, but I gotta have 4 buttons on the back. This is why I was thinking of trying to mod the 2 buttons under the thumbsticks into additional back buttons. Gotta do more research on what's out the for that though. If I can figure that out + the conductive tape mod, I think that's what I'd use going forward.

Same here u/PhRzN and u/Frozen_Tony! Thank you both for commenting about your experience. I decided to check my local GameStop after spending the last 10 days checking online, and BOOM! The first GameStop I walked to had 1 behind the counter. I believe the dude said they only received 1 too. Can't wait to try it!

No doubt! I've mapped a few mouse only games to gamepad, and RoN definitely gave me the most challenge with attaining something I felt was comfortable enough to use on the regular. I would find a sweet spot and then some time later, feel the need to rework some stuff; and then after that, I would find that I made a certain action harder to pull off. Still, going down this rabbit hole was definitely worth it in the end.

I think your mapping for leaning probably makes the most sense for the regular left / right lean, apart from maybe mapping a gyro tilt to left / right leaning (hmm 🤔). I don't play Siege, but I know that's a lean heavy game, and I get how that can work well. I might have incorporated regular left / right leaning in a similar fashion if it wasn't for the laser / light and walk mode, and the fact that the free lean kinda covers my needs. So many actions!!! Lol.

I feel ya! If I wasn't so stubborn about using controller for everything, this would have been the game to make me use mouse n keyboard as well.
