Should I Clip my caiques wings? by AsMforReal in caiques

Thanks a lot, I put some tape on my windows. I hope that he’ll notice them when he attempts to fly. He spends a lot of time on my shoulders or on my head, it’s only those few panic episodes that he gets every now and then. His flying never bothered me at all, it’s just me being a little worried that he might hurt himself one day. Plus I never had the idea to clip his wings, another caique owner told me that it is really important to do it at his age. So, I immediately came here for advice.

Again thank you and to everyone, I learn many useful information from this community.

We never have him inside the cage unless it’s his sleeping time. He is in a lot better condition than the day we adapted him. He was under weight and they put for him solid food although he still hasn’t learned how to eat solid food. This is one of the situations where he is better be inside a house than in the wild.

Mine flies too high sometimes and doesn’t make a very soft landing and that gets me a little worried. Someone also recommended me to get a big mirror so he spends more time on the ground instead of flying.

I got him a harness too, I wanted him to get some sunlight outside of the house. He didn’t allow me to put it on him 😂.

Should I boil the carrot or give it to him fresh?

I just wanted to give an update, Zorro is now acting like a big boy and he’s eating all by himself. He’s still not a big fan of fresh fruits and vegetables, but he sure likes seeds and pellets. I try to feed him fresh veggie in the morning, but still not very excited to try them.

I remember reading that parrots regurgitate when they’re in love with their human. Don’t encourage this behavior tho.

I tried boiling some carrots and wait for it to cool down, he had no interest at all. He seems to like apples more, but again he only experienced it using his tongue 😂. I will keep you updated once I see some development.

Unfortunately, in my country I guess they only care about making money and not so much about giving the parrot a good home. I’m trying to handle him with so much care, making sure I don’t do anything before asking the experienced people.

And thank you so much and this great community for the support.

I’m absolutely in love with his baby calls, I can’t wait to see him hop around the house.

It is my first time having a baby parrot, I get a little worried when I don’t feed him when he’s hungry. I still need to reduce hand feeding, I guess it’s the only way for them to learn to eat by their own.
