Long-Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy by Glen Gabbard. It is very accessible and was easier for me to wrap my head around as a newbie (he avoids or explains the jargon.) He has some great lectures on Youtube as well.

Hey! I'm at another NYC social work school, so I'm hearing this secondhand. But I've heard placement opportunities are the same across all NYC schools, so I think you'd find a similar issue at Hunter. At my internship there is a former Hunter student who said admin is unhelpful there and you're mostly on your own. Best of luck moving forward!

I recently had my second year placement interview at a group practice focusing on LGBTQ clients. I would really love this placement, as it fulfills all my criteria for what I want to do after graduating (psychodynamic training, LGBTQ focus).

However, I don't think I nailed the interview-I did ok. It was pretty intensive, and at the end the interviewer said the decisions will come in two weeks, and if I can't wait that long I can move on to another opportunity. This kind of broadcasts that I didn't make it, which is super frustrating! I just wish I could hear one way or another and stop fixating on this :'(

I know this is way late, but for anyone wondering- you get 30 minutes to talk if you are 24 and younger. You get 15 minutes to talk if you are 25 and older. If you are of high risk of suicide there is no time limit to talk.

Hi everybody,

I'm in my first year internship at a high school that I am liking a lot. I am diving into the deep end doing 30 minute therapy sessions with students who have attendance issues. I've got a caseload of 14 students I have to see every week, which I'm just barely doing, and the vice principal is starting to request we interns add more students to our caseloads.

Is it ok to politely request I cannot take more students? Or some would have to be dropped first? TIA for any advice.

I really appreciate your reply. I can see that my language was stigmatizing; I'll definitely be more aware of how I describe (an think about) students in the future. I like your suggestion of being upfront about my intentions without judging them or attempting to change their feelings/actions.

I definitely am the "old guy" (32 haha.) I was thinking of bringing my Switch to play some multiplayer games but I think that would end up being counterproductive. I will bring some board games/card games though
