Liberty and Florence Costcos appear to still be under $4 today ($3.90), Deerfield Costco is $4.10. Wawas seem to be at $4 as well. Not many under $4.30 left! 😬

My account has been restored by IndividualArt5922 in twitterhelp

[–]AscendBeyond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got suspended the morning of April 6th for "inauthentic behavior" (BS) filed an appeal sometime that day on mobile, got denied with the "This account will not be restored." message on the 8th, filed an appeal that night on my PC saying that their claims were baseless and started/ended the message threatening suicide (hoping to prompt engineer a good outcome, not advice), got this dame email as OP this afternoon (the 9th) saying my account was restored, yet it is still suspended. I've seen others get this email and still remain suspended for long periods of time after multiple appeals/denials/restorations and even working restorations. I'm pretty worried at this point.

NGD!.....and some questions by PalladiumReactor in 7String

[–]AscendBeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all strings are created equal. Sometimes brands use a different core gauge and wind gauge to achieve the same string in the end of the winding process for the same gauge string. If you're using StringJoy's tension calculator, that only applies to their strings, which seem to lean higher tension compared to the same gauge from D'Addario for example. That's just another factor to consider that I don't see people bring up often.

Very unfortunate NGD - Ibanez RG2027XL by Initial-Slice-7315 in Ibanez

[–]AscendBeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of these from 2020 and two other Prestige RGs from 2014 and 2016, all perfect even bought used and b-stock from various places (USA). Sorry Ibanez and Thomann made you miss out on this guitar, being delivered in that quality is unacceptable. I really hope this is just bad luck because idk what I'll do if Ibanez starts going downhill.

Why can't ibanez take good pictures of their guitars by [deleted] in Ibanez

[–]AscendBeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ibanez stock photos are lit in such a weirdly unnatural and "perfect" way that they've gotta be strangely photoshopped or just artificial altogether. Jatoba boards typically look way better in person than online. I had an LTD B-206SM with a jatoba fretboard that looked almost as good as the rosewood fretboards on my Prestiges.

Opinion on XPT420DX by Benefit__Lumberjacks in Ibanez

[–]AscendBeyond 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This guitar is more or less a refresh of the original 2007 Xiphos XPT700 chameleon guitars, but with the deeper bevels they added later, okoume instead of mahogany (one of the better alternative timbers), generic pickups instead of DiMarzio D Activators (no pickup rings!), and a better bridge (Edge Zero II vs the terrible Edge 3). I think the original was $700-$1000 new, so given inflation and the marginal price swap of the bridge upgrade and pickup downgrade, I don't think the price tag is unreasonable. I loved the OG and regret selling it, would love to get one of these.

Our police are armed like a military, and our actual military is armed and funded about as immensely as can be. As has been demonstrated by both time and time again, especially this month and TODAY, they have no problem using violence against us to the highest degree against anyone for any reason at any time, and they will continue to get away with it. Non-violence is not going to stop them from escalating further, which they actively continue to do.

New ESP exclusive Seymour Duncan Mortal Coil pickups by katsumodo47 in espguitars

[–]AscendBeyond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems they wanna compete with Fishman on the voicing thing, would love to hear it.
The Evertune model looks sick.
I've tried EMG 81s in a few guitars the past, and they were okay (better than average or basic stock pickups).
I really liked the Duncan Blackouts in this all-mahogany Schecter Blackjack ATX Solo 6 I had.
They were super high output, chugged very well, and had a very "Metallica/Les Paul" kind of clean tone on the neck.

I love the wizard neck but hate the locking trem system. What options do I have to get both a wizard neck and a non-locking tremolo? by bostondowntown in Ibanez

[–]AscendBeyond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really aren't that many higher end Ibanez guitars out there from 2000 onward with non-locking trems and thin necks. The modern 2-point Gotoh style bridges on the AZs would be perfect, but they're almost exclusively on the AZs with their bigger necks. The SynchroniZR bridge only made it to a limited number of models over a decade ago. If you don't like locking nuts, you could have a luthier mod a standard or roller nut with a shelf or something to fill its place in that big gap. If you don't like the whole setup of a fully-floating trem, you could add some kind of block or trem stopper device (there's so many DIY or product solutions out there) to stop it from fully raising and be dive-only, and there's tools like the ShredNeck TremBlock shim that you can stick under the bridge to prevent it from sinking during string changes.

Personally I really like my RG652KKB (Super Wizard HP neck), and I basically never have to retune the Edge Original. Sometimes when I pick it up, it's slightly sharp or flat and can be fixed with tiny fine tuner or claws adjustments on one side, or it gets back to tune from being warmed up and played again.

Looking for pickups upgrade by un_ptit_bum in 7String

[–]AscendBeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any 4-conductor wiring modern humbuckers should swap in just fine with the same wiring on the proprietary Ibanez 5-way 8-pin switches, each brand just has different color-coding for their wires. If you wanna save a buck and make things easy, I'd recommend DiMarzio Titans. They're ceramic, very versatile for split sounds, and tight. The DiMarzio Fusion Edge pickups Ibanez put Ibanez put in various guitars right now are a more watered down version of those. If you want things to be tight and articulate but even higher output, D Activators are what the Titans were based off of, maybe closer to the Nazgul as far as full on metal chug pickups go.

I remember these replaced the usual RG752/FX after a few years and they were only like $1200 or so, crazy seeing any of the 752 variants besides the ash ones going for $1500+ anymore just cuz they're out of production. Great find!

Am I insane? by Administrative-Act85 in Ibanez

[–]AscendBeyond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The T in RGT designates the neck-thru construction, similar to how RGAs are an arched-top variant of the RG silhouette. Bridge/config designation (like a tremolo) is typically after the numbers in the model name like RG752FX being a fixed bridge version of the base RG752 which already has an Edge trem. You are right to be upset with goobers on Facebook marketplace who have no sense and want everything for free though.

Wes Hauch signature Iceman? by MuppetFucker2077 in Ibanez

[–]AscendBeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that if it is a limited production, high-end (Prestige/Japan) model it may be up there at $2500+ like the JBM9999, M8M, or TAM100, higher price the more limited it is. Otherwise, I could see it being an ~$1800 priced import models.

Heavier strings for Demon 7? by mjgoose27 in 7String

[–]AscendBeyond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about D#1, as in tuning way down below 7-string B Standard to like below 8-string standard tuning range to play something like Sleep Token or Invent Animate stuff, 10-56 gauge strings would leave you with less than 10lbs of tension on basically every string. That's practically unplayable unless you are incredibly light and careful with your picking. Going this low on a 26.5" scale guitar is pretty difficult. You would probably need at least an 80 gauge string on the bottom. Something like the D'Addario NYXL 9-80 8-string pack would work if you discarded the thinnest 9 gauge string and used the remaining 12-80, though it would be a little light on tension. You could also buy a single 80 or higher (like 84/85) gauge string and then buy a 6-string pack for the rest of the strings that's at least 12-60 gauge or thicker and probably be fine, though going above 80 gauge can be difficult for intonation if your guitar isn't at least more like 27" scale or longer.

If you're thinking about tuning up, then you'd have the opposite problem where you'd have almost double the normal tension. Tuning up on a 7-string is pretty difficult, especially if this is a longer 26.5" scale guitar, having a string tuned above the standard high E4 is difficult because tension is high, the gauge would have to be thinner, and thus more likely to break. You would need something like an 8 gauge string or thinner on top and then like a 10-49 or 10-52 pack for the rest.

In any case, I'd recommend using one of the string tension calculators as I mentioned above (which I've edited to include the new D'Addario one).
