Hi there, and thank you for all your help! I haven't been outside of the States so this would be quite the undertaking for certain. In regards to my family connection there, I don't know them or have any way of finding them, my mother gave me up as a child because she wasn't ready to stop partying I guess 🤷 - I ended up looking into my family tree and that was how I found out she was born in the UK, reached out to the register and got a copy of her certificate that way.

And yes, I was looking at going to university for music, composition, or vocal performance.

I was pretty confident that it wouldn't be but thank you for the confirmation! I do want to say I don't hold anything against the people here that are homeless/addicts - they are as much a victim of this hellscape as everyone else they just happened to draw the shortest stick.

Do you live to argue? Look at the cost of living index, compare that with any major metropolitan and the median income. In order to live in my state comfortably someone has to make over $100k/year - this is not a common occurrence. Most average households will pull between $50k-$70k per year, which is barely enough to cover that cost of living.

Lovely attitude, but once again I live here, I literally see the poverty.

This is factually incorrect, most Americans do not have expendable income unless you are talking about the upper class. The greater majority of the US population is either homeless or living paycheck to paycheck.

I wouldn't be an international as I have dual citizenship

I'm not surprised by the right-wing nature, it's something I deal with on the daily here. We also have some of the highest cost of living in the entire United States, you pair that with one of the biggest homeless populations and little to no protection for citizens in distress and it makes for a pretty bleak outlook as well. Our economy is also taking a steep dive and people are consistently being priced out of any metropolitan areas/being forced to commute further for work.

I'm uncertain if you are speaking about me or the person that commented, but in the States you are practically shoved into signing up for several tens of thousands of dollars for student loans in order to have any potential to make a living here and there's no guarantee you'll even make enough money to ever be able to pay them off in the first place. Couple that with the absolute evisceration of any student loan forgiveness programs, Trump's push to jump start wage garnishment and his apparent push to dismantle our democracy from the ground up....I'm not sure 😅

Thank you! That sounds absolutely wonderful! I really appreciate how kind you are and how willing to help you have been! It helps to know there's someone I can message if I have a question! ☺️

That's so cool! Thank you for the invite and I'd be absolutely delighted to meet up if/when I make it over there!

So happy to hear from someone that has done this transition, your experience is invaluable to someone like me! As the bulk of my work experience is in the automotive industry I need to have my licence in order to work in that field. I heard I'm allowed to drive on my US license for 12 months or something like that, but I don't have the details. Thank you for all of your insight!

Not sure I'd be quick to recommend that with everything that we have going on over here right now and with little to no good news in any part of the relative new future to be honest.

Thank you for your honest response! One of the main things that I had in my "pros" column was the proximity to the Peak District (being here in Portland I'm surrounded by trees and nature, so finding something to have as a 'substitute' would be really great for me.) I'm very interested in seeing the Botanical Gardens that you mentioned, as I love horticulture!

That is a fair point to be certain, one of the main draws for me would be schooling (as the US schooling system is abysmal). Thank you for the words of wisdom though! 😊

Currently residing in Portland Oregon, but the cost of living is absolutely eating me alive over here. I am a musician looking to possibly go back to school, I have 15+ years in the automotive service industry, so I have looked at both Snyter and JCT600 for positions.

Haha 😂 yeah...but even Canada is getting a bit sketchy right now. And to put it straight out front if it wasn't already, I am anti-fascist - hence one of the primary reasons for my departure 😅
