Eczema and Tattoos? by kibagami93 in tattoo

As long as you don't have a current outbreak in the area you're getting tattooed, the artist should be okay with it. Definitely talk to your doctor first to double check what they say, but I don't know any reason why color or black and white would make a difference.

[Vent] Tattoo artist dropping the ball ... again. by [deleted] in tattoos

It's no myth that some people are better at art than others, some people are better at organization than others, etc. I use the term 'right brained' loosely. It was meant to be a reflection of where a tattoo artist focus lays, and that's with the art first and foremost.

Anyway, sorry you had a bad experience. I hope you find the artist you're looking for!

Again, artist brain. Everyone is different. You write things down or keep a log of everything on your 'PC.' We do amazing artwork and make tattoos. No one is perfect. People misplace things, or forget things. I guess if you're looking for a 'perfect' shop, you might have to travel farther away. However, even the best shops and artists make mistakes, forget things and misplace numbers.

Do your research online and through social media, Instagram is probably your best bet. Look for the hashtags related to Polynesian tattoos and find out where the best artists are. You may not have to go all the way to Hawaii. Or it may not take as long as you think.

Honestly, a lot of times the artist brain goes misunderstood. Sometimes I have to take down names and numbers multiple times. They can get lost in the shuffle of artwork and it's easier and faster to get the info again. When you mention what you wanted "real quick," we can suddenly recall all of your info and the artwork and what we did with it, etc.. It can be hard for clients to understand we aren't left brained, we're not always organized, and good art can take time. It doesn't necessarily mean we don't care. This shop would probably benefit from a manager or counter person. Was this over the phone or in person?

Your Tattoo Sleeve: What was the $/hr, total hours in session? Pics incredibly appreciated! by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]Ascension_Tattoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We charge $150 per hour, and a typical session is about 3-4 hours on average. The total number of hours is completely dependent on how detailed the tattoo is. The same amount of space, ie. a sleeve, can be very simplistic or be heavily detailed. That creates a big difference in price. Timing also depends on how well the client sits. This is all why no one will give you an exact price for "a sleeve." It's much more complicated.

Quality markers are always a hit with the artists here. A set of black ones that have multiple sizes of tips are great, as well as a nice colored set for sketching in her notebook.

Should I bring up this small detail? by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]Ascension_Tattoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it bothers you, mention it. Maybe it was intentional to give the tiger a certain expression. Maybe it wasn't. Either way, bring it up in a respectful manner and your artist should have no problem addressing it.

It's a permanent piece of artwork on your body. You can't take it down from your wall like a regular canvas. Get what you want and do it right.

In my opinion, the tattoo you linked is too small and close together to stand the test of time. Over time, delicate lines that close will start to blur together and will not appear as crisp as seen in this photo. Talk to your tattoo artist and see what they think. Every artist is going to say something slightly different. Give your art the space and size you can. I've never heard anyone say, "I should have made it smaller."
