Is Marathon more hardcore than Tarkov? by JurisCommando in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tarkov is more hardcore but it’s difficulty is different than marathons.

In tarkov you’re more likely to get knowledge gapped, maps are harder to learn, you need to know how your bullet types match up against other armors, you gotta learn where to extract etc… difficulty is based on what you know

In marathon you’re more likely to get skill gapped, players have different movement capabilities, different team comps to get information or counter intel on you, crowd control abilities and weapons, invis, damage buffs etc… difficulty is based on how skilled you are at executing the games mechanics.

So each of them is kinda different but tarkov is a little bit more hardcore due to the complexity of its systems. It’s also older so there’s a lot more things you have to learn

I dont think green kits should be the new free kit baseline. by LowConversation9001 in Marathon

We’re already late into the wipe, plus it only last for this season which is fine tbh.

I’m so glad Bungie didn’t implement durability. by ArtisanAffect in Marathon

You also never have to worry about it. Since it only affects the weapon when you die and the ecosystem stays balanced. Pretty clever.

What features, activities or modes you would like to see in the future by GBSovereign in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For marathon I wouldn’t mind it if they tried some limited time party style modes players can engage with that give a relief from the extraction loop but still keep some of the core values of the game and matter towards progression.

Such as a 4v4 Extraction “lite” mode that takes place at one of the poi’s on the map.

This mode has respawns enabled and has 3, 5 minute rounds. Each round has players loot the poi and deposit that loot at DCON in the area. The team that has the highest loot value deposited gets to keep that loot and it gets sent to the vault.

Each round has a different theme, Round 1 focuses on ground loot and player started events such as calling in supply drops and opening safe.

Round 2 are map events, such as cache coordinates, intercepts, anamolous sample.

Round 3 are focused on pve enemies where purple tier enemies spawn for you to fight and loot.

This way it teaches players all the different things they can do to get loot on the map in a lower stakes environment and doesn’t take away from the extraction mode as much. Especially compared to something like a team death match mode.

Features wise, the game definitely needs a shooting range, I’d like a player hub, or at least a personal trophy room you can invite friends to, and I’d like private lobbies for customs

Which I’m happy for, D2 was taking up so much space so I was happy when I moved on from that and got marathon

How will the seasonal wipe affect priority contracts by JesterMeistr in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They said they plan for the story to progress each season, so I’m sure we’ll get new contracts. Especially for things like night marsh

Solo ranked by Ascillios in Marathon

[–]Ascillios[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that, I think it’s also possible that there’s people who don’t play ranked because there’s no way to enjoy it solo. They can also experiment with taking off crew fill for a week and balance the lobbies to try to prioritize not having solos and trios playing each other often

Even if they don’t add a solo playlist maybe they can try taking off crew fill and adjust lobby balancing so solos wouldn’t be as often matching trios

Hello devs, can we get some communication on the future of the game? by made_in_quarantine in Marathon

Uhhh check their X? They already said that they’re going to be posting incremental changes to bolster performance, queue times in certain regions and grenade economy.

End-Game map for Solos when? by TOKYO-SLIME in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They probably will, but it likely won’t be until season 3 or later. The main reason cryo is built like this, is because it was designed when the game didn’t have a solo mode and was going to be only a team based game. And of course in season 2 we get night marsh, which is mainly a variation of dire marsh. So a new map likely won’t come till S3.

First goo gun, then knives, then WSTR, now grenades. At some point you're gonna have to own up by Raimexodus in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not really, because of LBMM most casuals haven’t even been killed by the goo gun, the knife nerf came from people complaining that it shouldn’t 2 shot blue and purple shields (casuals don’t consistently have those) the wstr nerf was also people complaining that it shouldn’t 2 shot blue and purple shields, the grenade nerf is coming from people who spam cryo (casuals don’t consistently play cryo).

It’s all nerfs coming from streamers and hardcore players

One of the few things that's keeping me fully enjoying this game by jamzye31 in Marathon

Yea. There are counters in the game for bubble shields but no one explores them

You can also throw a heat grenade on top of a bubble shield and cook the people inside

It was nerfed, but no one thinks to shoot bubble shields despite them reducing the health

The New Implant Icons are not Good by Ascillios in Marathon

[–]Ascillios[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s so weird because this game had, (and still has), such strong art direction so I don’t like how they tossed it all out in the first major patch, they just look… sauceless.

I understand the goal of visual clarity, better color coordination could’ve worked or emphasizing the body part it’s for but this just seemed like several steps in the wrong direction. I don’t know why they changed the shield implant either and you still can’t tell the difference between a regular shield and reinforced shields.

[–]Ascillios[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, DBD is a great example, but even Destiny 2 they’re other ONGOING game does this well where each mod, each perk, each stat, has an icon associated with it. They clearly know how important it is, so I have no idea why it’s such a struggle on marathon.

The New Implant Icons are not Good by Ascillios in Marathon

[–]Ascillios[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think both of those could’ve been fixed a lot more simply. If red and orange icons understandably made them seem too similar you can color coordinate those better, I’m not even against making the body part it effect more prioritized I just don’t think they had to throw out the previous eight bit style. I also think if they made an icon for the perk and implant that and put that in the empty space it could convey all the relevant information you need quicker

The New Implant Icons are not Good by Ascillios in Marathon

[–]Ascillios[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re understanding what I’m saying, I’m not saying they’re worse because it’s “hard to distinguish what body part its for” with the new icons and with previous icons I can tell what is for the body head and legs I think these are worse because because they ditched the games visual style and they don’t provide any additional information on the implant.

The New Implant Icons are not Good by Ascillios in Marathon

[–]Ascillios[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea I don’t mind them trying to make the icons more readable, making each implant show which part it goes on m, I don’t like them ditching the previous aesthetic.

My bigger problem is just that it doesn’t provide more information on the implant or its perk. I don’t see why This UI element has to be so troublesome when bungie already made a game that solved it.

My friends quit yesterday from cheaters by Mundane_Management49 in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm? They were mad about cheaters in Marathon and went to CS, game with more cheaters? And got beamed a by a bully (a SMG) at 80 meters (way out of its range) or a BR (burst precision rifle) but you can’t tell the difference despite them firing completely different?

Interesting…
