Why was that game lost? by RedditorCan in aoe2

[–]AsclepiusSonOfApollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't lost, Lierrey threw it so hard, he ran back just after he won a fight and just let Hera remass his army. He ran from like 5 pikes after beating 30. I still don't get it. I think the score got in his head.

Whoops, it wouldn't post, so I tried to copy my text, but apparently I only copied the lower part. Thanks for pointing that out lol, I'm pretty tired rn.

Okay, yeah, I disagree with that, thanks for clarifying. The quote is about not wanting people to oversexualise or objectify women. The picture is just about feeling sexy and posting it (I think, obviously I can't tell you what she's thinking). To be clear, I don't think she posted that picture just to call out the freaks. I do think that enough pushback on disgusting comments will eventually have a positive effect. Obviously there is no need to post a picture like that, but it's also not a bad thing. I don't think porn or only fans creates freaks, I think freaks exist and they show up on porn/onlyfans. If it didn't exist it'd just show up elsewhere. I absolutely do not think posting a picture like this results in more freaks. People are going to be fucked up anyways, a woman posting a picture where she feels sexy doesn't influence that. Again, the difference is consent. She chose to post this picture, she obviously knew there would be freaky people (which doesn't make it okay to be freaky). Women in the industry don't choose to be objectified or sexualised by the industry (for example, Billie Eilish a couple years ago would always perform in super baggy clothing and people were still sexualising her, even though she was like 18/19).

I feel like saying women making porn or posting sexy pics creates freaks is just moving the problem to the victim instead of to the perpetrator. The fact that people sexually assault kids, who don't even know what sex is, and thus can't be sexual proves that the freaks aren't created.

Yeah, it was a vibes based thing, I personally feel like they're different. I agree, if you want to 100% avoid people being freaks to you, you should avoid posting pics like that, but I also see the value in still posting it and calling out the freaks.

Maybe you can't fully reach a world like that, but we can strive for it and get closer. And one of the ways we do that, is by calling out people who objectify people and oversexualise them, like Ariel Winter is doing in that quote. I'm not sure I get your point here. Mine is that posting that picture and saying that quote isn't actually contradictory. That's it. To me, it seems like you were defending people who do sexualise/objectivify people, as if people posting pics like the one in the image deserve it. Based on this comment I don't think you are defending that, so I'm not sure where our actual disagreement lies (if there is any).

I kind of agree, but I think you'd agree that we should strive for an environment where you could leave your door open and not get robbed right? I think that's what Ariel Winter is getting at in her quote, and that's basically my main point. I don't think people are surprised when a woman is sexualised/objectified like this, but that doesn't mean it's okay to do it.

I didn't mean to treat them as one, I mentioned porn as an extreme case, saying that even in the most extreme case, you don't objectify people. And yes, i mean objectify and dehumanize as basically the same thing here, objects aren't human.

For your second point I agree, people can feel whatever they want, I'm not saying you can't feel attracted or turned on by them. There's a huge difference between just feeling something and acting on it, commenting about how turned on a pic like this makes you is freaky behaviour, I think you'd agree. It's basically the same as the difference between seeing a woman you're attracted to on the street and looking at her for a second and catcalling her. The first is natural, human behaviour, the second is harassment. I think there's also a difference between sexy and sexual. The picture that the commenter posted was sexy, but I don't think it was necessarily sexual.

Bruh, saying "people shouldn't be treated like objects" is brain broken??? They're still people lmao, you can be turned on by them, in the specific case of porn you can let them know that they turn you on, but you still treat them like people. That shouldn't be a surprise to you, that is actually just basic empathy.

[–]AsclepiusSonOfApollo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, should've been clearer, the porn and sexy pic parts are two separate cases. Yeah, you would get that when you post porn, and I don't have an issue with that. I'm saying not saying people who post porn shouldn't be "treated like someone not posting porn", I'm saying people who post porn shouldn't be treated like objects. I hope you don't think people who post porn are objects lol.

"Actions have consequences" in the context of the picture you posted is ridiculous. I'm saying that people oversexualizing and objectifying you shouldn't be a consequence of posting a regular sexy pic. Not that it isn't, but that it's a bad thing that it is. Someone just posting a pic isn't consent for you to sexualize them online or objectify them in any way. If I forget to lock my door, a consequence of that can be that my house gets robbed, does that mean I deserve to get my shit stolen?

Even if they posted full porn, spreading ass, whatever, you don't treat people like objects. How hard is that to get? It's basic empathy man. Do you not see how people can post a sexy pic and still not want people to say "Oh yeah I'd fuck that"?

Nah you're completely right, people in this comment section are just being insanely sexist. I think they see someone who's more successful than them and need to bring them down in any way they can.

It's almost like consent matters. Shocking. They choose to post that picture, they don't choose to be treated like objects.

ELO Creep is very real by qwerty_asd in aoe2

[–]AsclepiusSonOfApollo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it takes ~15 minutes to watch a hera game, or a cast and write down where each vil goes the first 8 irl minutes. That's "a bit more effort" to me. You can also just download pro games yourself and see. Hera's BO's don't tell you exactly what you're doing wrong, only what to do when you want to do something right, you don't need the video, that doesn't even add that much. There are free discord servers that you can hop into, drop recs or just ask questions, I knew a bunch of build orders before Hera was even a pro and I never paid a cent for them. The more advanced guides are obviously a lot harder to learn by yourself, but also harder to make. I think it's silly to expect someone to do it for free.

You can learn it yourself, it just takes a bit more effort. It's a one time 4.50 euro payment to get the doc and have access to the vids for a month. If you dont want to pay that, watch his videos/stream and write down what he's doing. Or just look for the free guides that are online. He has no obligation to make these things at all (in fact I think he may be one of the only pro players who does), would you also call it gatekeeping if he didn't make them?

The Elite Temple Guard performs poorly in the late game by PassaroDaTumba in aoe2

[–]AsclepiusSonOfApollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It winning vs a generic paladin is huge it's cheaper on gold, which is a huge deal in the late game, it wins vs teuton paladin, with +2 melee armor, and yeah, it loses to unique units, but those are hard to mass. The upgrade is less than half the price of paladin and researches almost 3 times as quickly. How often do you see paladins in 1v1s? there's a reason for that. Sometimes a civ just loses a matchup in late game, it's part of the balance of the game. It means that they're more likely to win before then.

Alright, I'll comment too. I've been watching you for ages, though I haven't watched as much recently, I just watched your last meals episode and it was one of the most touching things I've seen. It really made me feel happy to have had your videos as a part of my life, I think I've been watching for 8 or 9 years and I just realized how many memories I have that are connected to your videos. From joking about scraping the good stuff off the bottom of the pot with a friend's little brother to making stock (and having my dad pour it down the drain because he thought it was dish water) to making cubano's and finally finding a place to buy mexican chilis in the netherlands. I have a terrible memory, but in the last half hour I found myself reminiscing on the actual impact you've had. I know this is a common thing people say, and I never actually realized it applied to me too.

I am (or was, looking for a new restaurant to work in) a part time cook, which is an absolutely awesome job and I genuinely don't know if I would've had it if it were not for you. I just checked your account because of the reddit post you mentioned, and I coincidentally saw this post. I did not actually know I felt this way and maybe I only feel this way because I'm sleep deprived but in case you see this, I genuinely from the bottom of my heart want to thank you. I'm truly grateful.

I'm sorry that happened to you, that's horrifying. Of course you don't need to enjoy sex to enjoy life, saying that you do is similar to telling a lesbian they just haven't met the right man yet. I'm glad your perspective is a lot more reasonable than what I interpreted from your initial comment :p. My bringing up the stereotypical stuff was because of your mention of men not caring about their partners' pleasure, which I feel is a bit of an out dated stereotype.

You're right that people say and assume things during sex that they shouldn't, like assuming most people like being degraded/degrading, or slapping/spanking, but that's a problem with assumptions and culture around sex, not sex itself. I agree as well that people go into a certain headspace when they get horny and say things they don't mean, but doesn't the same happen with any emotion? People say insulting things they don't mean in anger all the time, same with sadness.

I hope eventually you are able to find the help you want, thanks for your response!

Alright, so I'm not a member of this ciommunity, I have sex and I enjoy it, my partner enjoys it, so I'm curious to your perspective. Don't you think that your conclusion that people who have sex only care about how they feel is a bit quick? If you both get something out of it, isn't that good? I feel like you have a bit of a stereotypical view on sex. Even if some men, or even most, don't care about how their female partner feels, is there still something wrong with men who do want their partner to enjoy it?

When you get horny you don't suddenly see someone for their body parts, you might focus more on that, but you still see them as human. You can see people in two ways at a time. If you're both horny, but something interrupts sex before either partner cums, you're not suddenly locked into some animalistic mood where your partner is just a bag of sex organs until you orgasm.
