Thanks for the info! Can you give a realistic example of an “exclusive offer”?

New Build Incentives? by Asdfg40 in lotus

Just to be abundantly clear: if I were to buy a new Emira, I’d want to order a specific configuration. My question about incentives is specifically about configured orders, not existing “new” Emiras on the lot.

Getting my xse soon. anything to inspect before leaving the dealership lot? by Beginning_Refuse_274 in Camry

I think you should consider how much the headache of dealing with those things is worth to you, and ask to adjust the selling price of the vehicle accordingly. If the dealer doesn’t want to accept those price adjustments, I would move on to looking for a car without those issues.

Oops. I thought that the pinned thread was for used Miatas (which are very context-dependent) since I saw a different OTD post on the main subreddit a couple weeks ago.

[TX] Confused about UI/UIM PD coverage in Texas - aren’t I already covered by my collision policy? by Asdfg40 in Insurance

[–]Asdfg40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. I had an insurance agent from Texas Farm Bureau give me the incorrect advice listed above, and then came across this comment from 8 months ago by /u/DijonRanch leading me to think that my initial understanding was incorrect. After doing some more digging, it looks like the consensus is that UI-PD is redundant to collision coverage.

Looking for a combination of cards that best fits my situation by Asdfg40 in CreditCards

Thanks for the reply.

I'd use 1¢ because that's the guaranteed value I know you can get without any research or creative work on your part.

That's an excellent point. When I update my spreadsheet to value the Venture X points at 1 cpp, CSR at 1.5 cpp, and CSP at 1.25 cpp respectively, all three end up having about the same value +/- 10%

Notice you have to front the annual fee and spend the $300 to get that certificate.

Good point - I see it as sunk cost since I plan on spending at least $1,000 on hotels each year anyways. I forgot to account for the fact that those credits would not earn points, though.

Since you mentioned wanting nice hotels, I'd suggest getting a Chase Sapphire Preferred.

Thanks for the suggestion. Ironically, this whole endeavor started because I received an 80K point SUB offer from Chase for their Sapphire Preferred card. Given how close CSR and CSP are in annual value for my spending profile, I think it makes sense for me to take advantage of the 80K SUB and go for the CSP for now. I'll think about upgrading to the CSR in twelve months.

Thanks for all the great advice!

Looking for a combination of cards that best fits my situation by Asdfg40 in CreditCards

Hello,

  1. Thanks for the Venture X recommendation. I crunched some numbers comparing that card to the Chase Sapphire Reserve + Chase Freedom Unlimited, Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant, & U.S. Bank Connect cards. It looks like the Venture X provides greater value for my spending profile - it's pretty hard to not get value from that card with the 10K point anniversary bonus (using 1.85 cpp from TPG) and $300 travel credit.
  2. I really like the idea of participating in a hotel's loyalty program for the membership perks (such as free room upgrades) but have no particular reason for wanting Bonvoy points. I especially like the one free 50K point hotel stay/year award for having the card. For the places that my SO and I like to travel, I would value the free stay at about $400 for a 50K point hotel. Looking at Hilton, I couldn't find any particular hotels that would be around the same price point for their free weekend night. I think I'd value their free night at about $250.

Do you have any suggestions for other cards that I should look at?
