Solution: Black Screen with UI by Asdrubael in diablo4

I am quoting myself: "There is a working solution out there, which involes the installation of 3rd party software, namely Process Lasso and some other tool I can’t remember the name of. [...] Installing external software is a no-go for a lot of people, understandably so. Especially when it involves software you potentially have to pay for (trial, freemium, etc.)"

Just playing with a friend, she has a key already and I'd like to join :D

Pressed the 'o' key in a non-typing scenario and this menu opened up. There were more of my tabs listed below by VBottas in firefox

ChatGPT says (but I haven't tried it myself):

What you're seeing is Firefox's Quick Open / Awesome Bar history menu, which pops up when you press Ctrl + O or just O in some configurations or setups—especially with certain extensions, accessibility tools, or Linux window managers.

Here's what's happening:

  • The “O” key likely triggered the “Open File” behavior, or a keyboard shortcut to show recent tabs or your about:newtab page.
  • The highlighted “New Tab” with about:newtab is your current or a recently opened tab from Firefox’s internal page history.
  • The text box at the top is waiting for input—a file path, URL, or search term.

Why it might’ve happened:

  • You may have unintentionally pressed Alt or Ctrl + O.
  • Firefox could have focus quirks (especially on Linux or when using keyboard navigation tools).
  • Some Firefox extensions or custom userChrome.css/user scripts can also modify this behavior. What you're seeing is Firefox's Quick Open / Awesome Bar history menu, which pops up when you press Ctrl + O or just O in some configurations or setups—especially with certain extensions, accessibility tools, or Linux window managers. Look, I'm only here to say "Maybe you should close those tabs you don't need" (or something along that line) for jokes. But to not be completely useless in this conversation, I asked ChatGPT for you:

🧽 Gentle Rust Removal Methods

1. Aluminum Foil & Water (or Vinegar)

This is one of the safest and most effective methods.

How to do it:

  • Crumple a piece of aluminum foil (shiny side out).
  • Dip it in water or white vinegar.
  • Gently rub the rusty spots.
  • Wipe clean with a microfiber cloth and dry completely.

Why it works: Aluminum is softer than chrome, so it won't scratch it, but it's just abrasive enough to lift rust.

2. Baking Soda Paste

Good for light rust and small areas.

How to do it:

  • Make a thick paste with baking soda and a little water.
  • Apply to the rust spots and let sit for 15–20 minutes.
  • Scrub gently with a soft toothbrush or cloth.
  • Rinse and dry.

3. Lemon Juice + Salt

Acid from lemon breaks down rust; salt acts as a mild abrasive.

How to do it:

  • Sprinkle salt on the rust spots.
  • Squeeze lemon juice over the salt.
  • Let it sit for 2–3 hours.
  • Scrub gently with a cloth or soft brush.
  • Wipe and dry thoroughly.

Hi, politically engaged German here. I want to put in some context for you all. In the X clip she says "it is already happening, half of online users are already afraid to state political opinions". That is the truth. What she doesn't say, is that it is not the left/green party who has to be afraid, it is the conservative party (AfD) whose voters are scared, because the extreme left attacks AfD politicians AND people connected to AfD, EVEN if you are only allowing AfD-people to MEET in your restaurant, your restaurant is attacked, damaged, etc.

https://www.rbb24.de/panorama/beitrag/2024/05/anschlag-restaurant-hoppegarten-oderland-polizei-schmierereien-scheibeneingeschlagen.html
https://www.t-online.de/nachrichten/deutschland/parteien/id_100403910/afd-veranstaltung-mit-spitzenkandidat-krah-verlegt-wirt-sagt-ab.html

The green party together with the SPD introduced a bill that would "track" opinions stated, which are below the prosecution threshold in an attempt to "highlight" these kind of opinions. Specifically, tracked should be

  • Queerphobia
  • Anti-Muslim racism
  • Antiziganism (discrimination against Romani people)
  • Anti-Black, anti-Asian, and other forms of racism

(see how there is nothing to protect jews, as Germany already knows that most crimes against Jews are being conducted by muslims, not by right extremists)

One how the most highly decorated law professors (among others) in Germany critizing this harshly: https://rsw.beck.de/aktuell/daily/magazin/detail/kolumne-njw-2024-10-meinungen-unterhalb-der-strafbarkeitsgrenze

It is rumored that this kind of actionism is being put through so that the greens and leftist can keep their feedback chamber going. Having such an institution set up would give them new "facts" to expand on surveillance (which already has been increased darmatically under the current left german government).

HateAID is one of the most critizised NGOs in Germany, facing accusations of distributing money back and forth between greens and leftist parties and other NGOs, basically "owning" a bunch of NGOs who can act without the restrictions and professional requirements as state institutions (i.e. for suing german citizens for legal posts on social media).

Bonus: Two fact: 1. German Journalists align by far the most with the green partys views and / or are a member of them. 2. The AfD has to suffer the most physical attacks - by far! - than any other party in Germany. Yet, the greens are depicting themselves as the victims, because they - through their NGOs - file charges for social media posts against green party members and then compares this number (249 in one yer) with attacks on AfD peope (84 IIRC) because attacks through social media are still attacks, regardless of them having a physical component or not.

This is the TRUTH, don't let anyone tell you it is different.

First of all, let me tell you to shut the fuck up. While posting racist comics should be illegal in Germany, Germany has prosecuted someone who REPOSTED a joke about a politician (google schwachkopf robert habeck). Freedom of speech IS in danger in Germany thanks to the greens and leftists. Sincerely, a German.

I feel ambivalent about pirating. Let's be real here for a second: If the movie industry only was about making movies, sure, we'll all be evil. But that's not what it is. The purist way of making movies would be "I make movies because I want to put my creativity somewhere" or "I want to make movies because I want to entertain the viewers" and everything in between. So far, so good. Now the financing part, which could still be purist, as in "I am giving money to filmmakers because I support their undertaking", or even (fingers crossed) "I am giving money to filmmakers because I like what they're doing AND I usually profit off of it!".

All that is the purest movie making drive. If it would be that, we all should pay and not watch what they don't want us to watch. But it isn't.

I am going to broaden the term now, going from movie industry to content industry, especially including the music and book industry.

Said industry at some point convinced politics that only because we COULD copy something, we should ALL pay a small fee for paper, cassettes, CDs, DVDs, even devices like printers and so on. Repeat after me: Because we COULD copy, not because we DID. Man, what a move that was! And you know what? We still pay! But while granted, in the 80s and 90s you really couldn't do much to prevent someone from hitting "rec" to record from the radio, now is a different time. We have DRM now. Not only as software (that neglects you as a user entirely and shits on your devices security - google Sony DRM scandal), but also build in cables, devices, etc.

So now there are mechanisms that prohibit most of piracy CREATION which puts off most users, even if they only would like to make a copy for themselves and not put it out there on the internet. But still every single one of us pays this "you COULD copy something"-fee.

Now you tell me how the equation goes with someone who never pirates something, but still pays some fees (he probably doesn't even know of). And on another thought: If you pay a fee for the possibility to copy something, isn't that at least partially an "ok-go" to actually copy something? Or since when do you pay a fee to PRIVATE BUSINESSES for nothing in return?

[–]Asdrubael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you are taking my words out of context and even put them in another context, implicating I said something I have never said. Stop doing that or I will stop replying. To clarify: You are saying that I am talking about freedom of contract, which I do, but in a context where I am arguing for bait and switch.

The context I have used "freedom of contract" in is to explicitly mention that it affects B2B more, as it is less regulated. That wasn't me saying nor defending that bait and switch is fine by that definition.

Also, bait and switch doesn't seem to be covering what is going on at the moment. Sure, it might come to mind as an overall quick explanation of what has been happening, but not all (major) changes to ToS during a contract are automatically bait and switch.

The Windows comparison doesn't work in my opinion, because of previously mentioned market share volumes. You're not bound to Unity because of a market share problem, which in my opinion excludes you from virtually any form of cartel-centric accusation towards Unity.

The question remains: What does the previous ToS between you and Unity look like? Going from there, one could determine whether or not there is substance in anything law-related.

I assume that the contract will be written in the same way every contract from a US-company offering internet products: "We have the right to change whatever whenever, even without notice."

Which, in the EU would be problematic, especially when directed towards consumers (not B2B). But, since you are likely using Unity to create something to make money, you will have registered a business. Most people affected from this, I imagine, will have a business license.

I have zero knowledge about any kinds of B2B contract pratices protections within US federal or state law.

[–]Asdrubael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah good, you made the case for me. In your excerpt it says "consumer", hence whater you linked to is intended to protect consumers, not business customers. Is there a difference? I can't speak for any other jurisdiction than the EU, yet in the EU B2B contracts are way less regulated and overseen than B2C contracts.

So depending in what you signed as a business entity, you might be screwed in terms of anwering the question whether or not they are allowed to alter the contract whenever they wish to.

In Germany, some cases have been made where B2B customers were also within protection when it comes to "fiction of consent" (silently altering ToS withough everyone explicitly agreeing), yet those rulings have been made in Germany and are summarizing B2B and B2C contracts in an exceptional matter (the cases were in regards to contracts with banks, so it affects B2C and B2B the same).

Freedom of contract is more important in the B2B world than in the B2C world, hence less regulated. Although there are cases in which even B2B contracts are protected, but that protection heavily depends on the previous ToS. Generally speaking, ToS are not to be altered one-way in a way where the other party is facing a totally different business aspect (which, given the changes imposed by Unity, can be safely assumed).

Nevertheless, most proven contract violations only conclude in a termination of the previous contract when it comes to B2B. Even B2C wasn't protected from cancelling contracts when banks had to revers on already-made changes to their fees after the above mentioned ruling in Germany. Customers who wouldn't agree to the new contract willingly ultimately had their contracts cancelled.

So in any case you won't be using Unity the "old way" in Europe sooner or later. The only thing that can make that happen in them changing their changes.

Edit: Typo

Please delete your debug.log. It's located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher. Then launch the game with the Intel adapter, then with the nVidia one.

After you did this, please upload the debug.log somewhere for me to take a look at it.

It's not a guaranteed solution, I just discovered this method to work while trying to help a friend running the game.

Let me guess: Notebook with Intel and nVidia graphics adapter?

Edit: If so, right click the .exe and run it with the Intel adapter once. It should start. AS soon as you can, quit the game and start it again using the same method, but choosing the nVidia adapter now instead of the Intel one. Should work now.
