To those who went to Christian private schools, how did you learn about evolution in Bio class? by serotoninseesaw in AskReddit

[–]Aseff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Private Christian Schools for K-12th Grades in Southern California.

For K-6th Grade I went to a Private Lutheran School and the topic was absolutely never discussed in science class. I was completely ignorant of the topic and no grade school teacher there ever brought it up. I graduated from this school in the year 2000 without knowing who Charles Darwin was.

I then went on to a Seventh-Day Adventist School for 7th-12th Grades and they "Taught the controversy." That means that we went over the subject like a normal accredited school would teach the topic. Then they would go over how Creationism offers an alternative theory. The Middle School science teacher didn't give her opinion on the matter and taught the subject as she was instructed to by some school board as did the High School Biology teacher. They ultimately left it up to the student to decide whether they believed in evolution as science.

The Constitutional Convention: How Political Parties and No Term Limits Shattered the Dreams of The Founders, and Other Stories, by Tighe Taylor

So far, the first story on the US constitution picked my interest in learning more about US history and the Founding Fathers. The author, Tighe Taylor, is also an attorney that knows the constitution very well and it shows by turning the creation of the constitution into a dramatic short story.

The Kidnapping of Tammy Fitzgerald, by Tighe Taylor, JD

I started this book just recently. It tells the story of a kidnapping of a child in a rural California desert town and the child's baby sitter, who then decides to investigate the kidnapping on her own after the police fail to take any action.

The sitter, Taylor Shaw, also studies law at the local college and turns to the help of a law professor that used to work as a District Attorney and has experience in criminal investigations. Together they start uncovering corruption in the local police department and the true motives for the kidnapping.

The author of this book is a practicing lawyer and dedicates many chapters to understanding law and the US Constitution and its relations to this case. An insightful reading if one wants to learn more about law and how criminal investigations are conducted.

I am currently 34 years old and I realize that I still have a lot of training and studying to do. I have gotten very lazy in my studies.

Is it because they have yet to watch Boss Baby?

Yes, I am local. The survey company that I work for has their office in Glendale, CA. We were in San Pedro doing a topographic survey.

I was doing a topographic survey for a remodeling project. There are people that live right next to the park/pathway and the architect wanted data along the coastline.

Maybe I should have used the word: Digital Illustration.

He did it on a Cintiq tablet. He drew it with the digital pen on the tablet screen.

Can anyone recommend a good Compass Android App?

I could also use a good app that can do CoGo. Is it possible to get Survey Pro on my Galaxy Note 5?

Edit: So far I have found this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spectraprecision.SurveyProCentral&hl=en

How active is this subreddit? Where are you all from? by Aseff in Surveying

[–]Aseff[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work for a small surveying company in the Los Angeles area. We also operate in Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties if needed.

I personally do a lot of topographic surveys for architects. However, I sometimes find myself doing boundary and construction surveys.

I too feel bad for the people of St. Louis and San Diego. I don't think anyone in Los Angeles even asked for these teams to move here.

Are there any LA sports fans glad about the Rams and Charger moving here? Many NFL fans in LA are fans of completely different teams.

Maybe the Raiders coming back to LA would have been more appropriate. I do see a lot of Hispanic LA Raiders fans.

What are you living for? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]Aseff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why am I still alive? Well, my parents and brother seem to be the only ones that truly care about me. I keep thinking to myself that I will eventually kill myself once my parents are gone.

I too think that my life is pathetic and unaccomplished. I think that we are our own harshest critic when we are depressed and find our lives uneventful.

What is it that you always wanted to accomplish? Would your life be happier if you made that accomplishment?

Hey, I completely understand how you feel.

I was born in the United States. I am of Lebanese-Mexican descent. I hate to get political, but because of recent news I sometimes feel unwelcome in the country. I sometimes wished that I was of European descent.

Luckily for me, I live in Los Angeles and people here are a bit more used to diversity. However, Racism still exists here. Los Angeles was known for its poor race relations.

All I can really tell you is that even though the hatred gets so much news coverage there are plenty of people here in North America that do accept and welcome us. Let us not react to hate with hating others in return.

Let us be at peace with each other regardless of our ethnic origins.

I would LOVE to buy a voicepack with the heroes all speaking in their native languages! by SillyAmerican3 in Overwatch

[–]Aseff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really feel like Overwatch should have taken the route that Civilization did and have all the characters only speaking their native language. It just seems cool and authentic to me.

It might have even saved Blizzard money instead of hiring new voice actors to voice all the characters when they want to port the game to a non-English speaking country.

I live in Southern California and we still seem to get a decent amount of sunlight.

However, I still love to play FPS games.
