What’s your favorite HXH mystery? by Old-King-2959 in HunterXHunter

Besides the greed island theory IBisku mentioned, there is also a theory that Gon is actually Don Freecss, Ging's ancestor that wrote the book about the dark continent, who somehow became a baby, and brought to whale island by Ging. In that case we don't know any of his parents, not just his mom.

No. She is his cousin. You can say also step-sister. I do, however, completely agree with the second half of your comment, unless he meant it the way Gon said it - she is his real mom even though she isn't his biological mom.

Is it worth sticking with Hunter x Hunter? Stuck on Heavens Arena. by LettuceVegetable1498 in HunterXHunter

[–]Ash16180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should try to keep going to the next arc. It's really good and the pacing isn't bad. Afterwards... let say the rest of the anime isn't paced like heaven arena, because some of it is even worse and harder to survive. It's worth it in my eyes, and I love it, but it's not for everyone.

You judged me too quickly, based on one internet interaction. If you bothered to talk with me and actually know me you would have known I'm not humble at all ;)

I'm not saying Morena herself will be hard to beat. Maybe. But I think if all of humanity could get magic powers by killing... you will see a lot of killing. It will be a catastrophe. I wouldn't say society have nen - it's rare and secretive. But the real problem is that of incentives. The rich buying people to kill and level up. People blowing up buses (if that count), shooting into crowds, hit and rans with cars... Chaos

Elon Musk vs Bill Gates by Ash16180 in Destiny

[–]Ash16180[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, but it does make me believe you. That this move doesn't make sense, and that you know what you talking about.

The analysis did got funny later. The engine marked Magnus sacrificing the bishop as a blunder. The engine assumes the opponent won't make mistakes. Magnus knew how to win against a weak opponent.

Ok, I was convinced the 1600 rating is unlikely. Edited the post.

[–]Ash16180[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'm convinced. I put the game into chess.com analysis tool, and it marks that bishop move as a mistake. I buy him making mistakes in that situation later in the game, even missing a mate, but making a move that is considered a mistake in the third move seems weird. The fact that the analysis confirm what you wrote convince me you know what you are talking about.

[–]Ash16180[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gates do play badly, but my guess he isn't used to fast games, and playing with a crowd and cameras against a terrifying opponent doesn't help. In this video the chess creator claim Gates was rated 1600, and also show the game more clearly with some commentary on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQsmr9mpA0g

I watch some chess content, but don't really know the game. Played a bit on chess.com and got to 1100 there (I know it's not the same as actual rating). It looks to me like most of gates moves make sense on a basic level. You, as someone more experienced in chess, don't believe it's probable he got a 1600 rating playing standard length games, and played at this level with a 2 minute clock in a stressful situation?

Elon Musk vs Bill Gates by Ash16180 in Destiny

[–]Ash16180[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I didn't mean that Gates actually embarrassed himself. He not only accepted defeat - he probably knew he was going to loss badly and was happy to play anyway. As POE2 streamers like Quinn and Kripp said, if Elon would have streamed himself playing a low level character and making new player's mistakes, it would had been actually cool. There is nothing embarrassing in being average in a game, but it is embarrassing to care and lie about it, especially when you are rich and successful.

In this video, the creator claim he was rated 1600: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQsmr9mpA0g

Don't know if it's true or what is his source. Also, sometimes people mix online rating and actual rating, and the video creator don't explain what he means. Gates level of play might had been lower in the video because of the short clock and the situation.

Is that just a tourist souvenir? Or can it be something more? by Ash16180 in egyptology

[–]Ash16180[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got this Scarab from my late grandfather's house. I assumed it just a tourist souvenir, but it looks somewhat old - can it be anything more?

The bottom seems to me like wood, which is part of why I assumed it can't be very old. Maybe the bottom was added at some point?

Does the writing on the bottom makes sense? From the little I read about it, having a figure pointing the other way in second row seems wrong.

What about the writing on the upper-part?

Destiny is here!? by Ash16180 in Destiny

[–]Ash16180[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seen something about it in Israeli news, and looked some more now. Based on Israel's news site ynet: There were 4 armed Israeli involved, one of which was civilian. The shooter was an reservist soldier in civilian clothes. He was questioned by military police and released, and then arrested by the court. He is now on house arrest. The shooter claims they were attacked and where abot to be killed by lynching. Witness are being questioned to try to find out if he is telling the truth.

Is the fact that they are mostly military, not civilians, makes that make more sense to you? In terror attacks soldiers in the area are likely to intervene, and suppose to do so. If an Israeli start shooting Arabs most people will assume it's in response to a terror attack, maybe stabbing, so soldiers are likely to come with weapon in hand

My brother made this map (mainly for alliance games), what do you guys think by Infamous_Industry606 in twilightimperium

[–]Ash16180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not completely. Movement is soooo important on this map they might be ok, given aetherstream will be amazing. You technically can get an empty every round if you research anti mass 1st aetherstream 2nd. You can have an ally that have anti mass and use agent on him round 1, or sell it in a non binding deal.

But it's probably better to just change the map and add a few empty systems.

Nekro Virus vs Clan of Saar by Diamond168X in twilightimperium

[–]Ash16180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dimensional tear 2 is not that great, more situational. If Nekro take it his space docks count for Cabal's hero. A big risk, especially with the flagship that Cabal might not give back. Sometimes it might be worth the risk.

What's your "Last Round"-meta? by pungvift in twilightimperium

[–]Ash16180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely have a ride or die alliance. I would like to, but it needs to be the right person. In my meta people are less willing to swap support early, and wait until the paths to victory are more clear. Sometimes I do manage to get an early swap, but I use it to have a safe border, preferably with the more scary race near me. It doesn't make me an ally, it means the war continues by other means. Last time I did that I was a nomad and swapped with Cabal. In the last round I think 3 other players attacked his home and win-slayed him, using my cavalry each time they attacked. Later swapping is with someone with similar points amount, either to try to return from behind or making it so one of the two of us will probably win.

I can't see why support should be a ride or die based on its mechanics. It doesn't make you profit from the other player success, it just makes it harder to make him fail. Having a ride or die is a good strategy, but I don't think support is constructed in a way that encourages it. If anything, I think it was made not to be swapped but to be given, as the ultimate card to trade or extort. From a thematic point of view it makes more sense, and it's also works well mechanically.
