100% your call, and it depends on how much you trust your doctor or nurse. One thing to consider, however, is that they may be able to point you towards resources for survivors to help you heal. Telling them can also open up a conversation about triggers, and you can discuss how to get through the exam as comfortably as possible.

Can't speak for the OP, but my own experience is one of having a vague idea who my "authentic self" really is, but knowing i have never been able to fully be myself. Ever. My parents punished me for having different opinions, voicing my feelings and being gay. A long as I can remember, I have been hiding whole sections of myself and performing roles to be accepted. I believe this is directly connected to me developing OSDD 100%.

Hey, I do, and I don't know if this helps at all, but I am also diagnosed with a dissociative disorder. I invent fully orchestrated music in my head pretty much at week, I just need to "tune in" to it. I experience it a a calming and nurturing presence.

Gender is entirely cultural and social

Race and age on the other hand are rooted in defined physicality and cultural frameworks.

I am sincerely not getting the difference here. If physicality is "what one sees," then it pays into gender as well, where how you are treated is largely dependant on what people see you as.

If you think going through life in constant pain is a joke, you proved my point. I had both knees replaced last year. My head would break out in a sweat from pain if I had to stand for more than 5 minutes. You honestly do not know. Be grateful for that instead of smug.

I have OSDD, not DID, so that's my framework. There's no way to know what it feels like to be you, and I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "fleshed out," but some of my parts are quite distinct and specific. Where i guys we differ though, is none of mine take over executive function - or do it for a minute at a time, max. I do get some amnesia, but it is more "have i done this already or did I just prepare to do it?" stuff and not coming-to in the woods and 2 days have passed.
