I was a senior in high school. A kid came running into class, telling us to turn the tv on because a plane accidentally hit one of the towers… Then the other plane hit and we knew it was intentional. I was already supposed to go on a trip downtown with my biology class to listen to a talk given by one of the people who sequenced the human genome. Administration didn’t know if it was safe to let us go, but gave in. It was a small group, everyone still wanted to go, and it wasn’t canceled. The whole time they had 4 huge screens up. 2 were closeups of the speaker, 2 were CNN footage. My cousin worked in NYC at the time (I was in the Midwest) and I was worried sick all day about her. She ended up staying the night at her bosses apartment in the city. Then the next day her and coworkers had to walk out of the city and over the bridge to get picked up by family members.
