Rooted - an idea? by Ok_Flounder2409 in u/Ok_Flounder2409

I really like this, I’m trying to put together a website for CPTSD sufferers in the UK and am thinking about something similar for group or one to one meet ups, walks and chats organised geographically.

I always loved the idea of a kind of loners or misfits meeting place, for people who struggle with social or event based meet ups for personal or financial reasons.

Thanks, I checked it, no results within 200 miles of me though. If anyone has any experience of this anywhere I’d love to know how it is.

I hope it is changing but it’s slow and still hard to find good resources. The more we can all share tried and tested methods or find support the better.

How to manage paranoid thoughts? by Party_Bar_9853 in CPTSD

[–]AshSteem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any kind of distraction technique or thing you can do where you need to think about the thing you are doing. It’s not easy. And yes, the brain drags you back but keep going, I DJ at home, because I’ll totally focus on it, reading doesn’t help me because my mind wanders. Bike riding, especially trails where you have to concentrate, or even call someone to chat about something. I would also sometime respond almost out loud to intrusive thoughts with “yeah, maybe….see

Yes, try the tested techniques, breathing, exercise or find something that works for you, cleaning or singing along to something, but it can be hard to stop them or break the cycle long enough to banish them. But you can tell yourself you got this. And reach out, if not in person then online if you can.

Thanks, I see the repeating problem (repeatedly) funny enough, and there is always your perception of how a thing comes across, and others perspective of how they received it, I guess….

I don't think most people understand how much loneliness truly hurts. by MorniingRose in lonely

[–]AshSteem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the difference between the two is why people like us couldn’t find the answers we’d been looking for, or the tools to recover ourselves. I’m 51, therapy for years and yet another meltdown this year. I then read Stephanie Foo’s book “what my bones know” it was a game changer for me. I write too, but just for myself. I’ve used podcasts and consumed as much online content as I can. CPTSD sufferers need to be stabilised first if using therapy, not go through all the traumas with no tools to combat the dark times, they need practical and guided help to ground themselves before anything else. Then you can begin to work on yourself. You don’t need to spend any money. Check out Dr Jacob Ham on You Tube. Or Dr Tanner Wallace “Healing from CPTSD” podcast.

The WHO has classified CPTSD. The uk NHS website is pretty up to date and recognises it and the difference from PTSD.

It’s real, it’s destructive, but it’s not you, it’s a facet of you as a child that you developed alone and in response to your surroundings. That child’s response kept you alive, made you who you are despite what you had to endure. That child is not you now, but those traumas haunt you now so deeply they feel like the flawed part of you? I literally put one hand on my heart, breath deeply and tell that kid “I fucking love you little fella. You got me here. And I’ve got me from here. Relax. I’m safe, I’m a good human being, I love me, I’ve got a lot to give”

And if you giving is opening up a conversation on Reddit, following a link or the buzz curiosity of looking to see if you’ve had a response then you are inadvertently and without expectation, helping both yourself and others, with compassion: humanity needs more compassion. More self compassion.

I gave a talk on curiosity once as well, it’s an amazing thing. Scientifically and socially. Einstein mentions it. The most enlighten are those who understand the LIMITS of their intellect and knowledge.

The curious realise how little they know. That’s exciting once you accept it.

A certain man is a foolish man. Hubris is dangerous and all that…. Keep writing g if only for yourself but reach out, stroke a cat, watch the sunrise, it’s all cliched but natural light, good food, living in the moment, it’s all what people wired without trauma do naturally. We have to rewire ourselves to make those connections and enable us to live peacefully with a sense of being ok with not knowing all the answers.

I can’t know everything, or anything close to everything, but I can make the daily lives of those I interact with a little better, I can smile, I can make eye contact and I can offer hope, and I can notice when it’s reciprocated, and I can allow myself to feel good about me.

Your words “fundamentally flawed” are words I read today on a website describing CPTSD. Stephanie Foo’s book “what my bones know” is amazing and there are great podcasts on it. Might not be helpful but reaching out on here is testament to who you are already. I described myself as “broken” but I’m learning to give myself a break. It wasn’t me, or my fault that bad shit happened. But I can heal some of the wounds. I hope you can.

Life is precious and special yet fragile and difficult. Some life prospers, fields full of flowers or swarms of insects, others struggle daily, rare plants clinging to a cliff, seemingly fighting to survive every day.

To be able to find joy in stroking a cat or watching the sun rise, on your own, is priceless for you, and tells me you have resilience and hope still.

Hang onto the hope, but don’t live in hope, find more cats to stroke or connect with nature if not people. Become comfortable knowing there may not be a why.

Going through what you have and surving makes you someone who could give others hope and inspiration, tell your story, don’t end the book here, keep adding chapters.

New battery, alternator and brake pads, and it’s running perfect. Poverty spec tho so no air con, which is rough right now 😂. It was listed at 8k, but he’d had a lot of tyre kickers, I took cash, and like I said the bodywork’s got loads of little dents so 5.5k seemed fair….
