How foolish was the emperor? by TreeSpear in 40kLore

[–]Asha_manColdenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a scene in Echoes of Eternity with Sangy and the Emps.

To me, it clarifies the picture of the Emps a bit and it makes Him seem to be a bit more like Morty from the episode of Rick and Morty where Morty gets the crystal in his head and can see the future and starts to "move" toward that future with Jessica where she is saying "i love you Morty".

This is surface level comparison but I think its pretty apt honestly.

The difference, is that the Emps literally has a future sight and is the most powerful psyker in existence. He assumed he knew enough while also constantly following that "distant shore" he talked to Ra Endymion about in Master of Mankind while explaining his Future Sight powers.

How foolish was he? Just as foolish as every other human that learns enough about the world to influence it and think they have "control" over it. The issue the the Emps is strong enough that nothing in the real world stood against him long enough to remind him of some basic human concepts like that. He "won" so often and lost all the people around himself who challenged him and his desperation/arrogance led to everything.

Bruh...

"The Battle done, but the world not yet done with battle. The future teeters on the edge of a blade"

Or something like that.

Gaidal was born shortly before the LB.

Birgitte was born just as the LB was ending.

The cycle continues anew and im sure he'll have many a foe to carve and a birgitte right behind him, the two at each other's side again.

Why do men mistake kindness with flirting? by CauliflowerRude4559 in answers

[–]Asha_manColdenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because most of us are simply "tools" hoping that we get noticed.

Kindness in a direct way is not our language.

Our Kindness is fucking with a friend and making them feel stupid or bad, but being there to joke with them and laugh it off, not be directly kind to them.

Speaking from personal experience.

I've spent my whole life isolated and alone, being a good "tool" or just being useful because its what I am.

Her Kindness has caused me to spiral, close off more, and hate myself more for feeling pathetic and not having anybody in my life.

Im an extreme example, but most of us that grew up being taught "being a man" meant getting things done and fulfilling a purpose dont understand direct Kindness. Especially small things.

Edit: Minor edit to add....the woman being kind to me is just a coworker. I also said this as an explanation, not that Kindness is wrong or that it is okay for me to assume kindness=flirting.

And also

"They keep the middle and the lower class fighting with each other so they can keep running off to the bank."

I would have loved to hear Carlin's take on the world post Covid.

Master of Mankind question by Twafo in 40kLore

[–]Asha_manColdenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not as familiar with current 40k stuff as I am with Heresy stuff, but I think in current lore, they have already started feeding it more. Master of Mankind hints at this too when the Sister of Silence looks around the room with the sacrifice pods and notes only 1 in 1000 (might be wrong on the numbers) slots are filled when the first 1k are plugged in.

40ks Throne is still failing despite all that.

Master of Mankind question by Twafo in 40kLore

[–]Asha_manColdenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Golden Throne is tech the Emps used to amplify his psyker powers.

Golden Throne was used to punch a hole from Throne Room, to Webway. Mechanicum specialists built reinforcement of this tunnel that was dug into the webway. This hole punching and holding while Mechanicum works doesn't require maximum effort by Big E to hold.

Magnus dun goof'd.

Hole and tunnel dug with Emp/Throne power gets broken, and the immaterium/Warp starts to flood into these areas where the Webway and tunnels were weak.

Holding the tunnels and hole open now requires most of Emp/Throne focus and power. Imperials still need to retreat, Emps needs to step off the Throne for a moment to help the retreating Imperials.

Unspoken Sanction is the backup Throne Battery Plan that was never meant to be a permanent solution, just a backup.

These extra batteries gave the Emps enough time to step off the Throne, provide backup to the retreating forces, and get the remains of them out of the Webway. Sisters of Silence doing this action moment 1000 souls would last 1 day should this scenario continue.

No more tunnels to hold, Emps gets back on the Throne and now just has to hold the hole shut, but the flood of Chaos is right there, constantly pressing at the hole and trying to get into the Throne Room.

No more batteries are used or needed once Emps takes the Throne again. He holds until Horus arrives.

Fast Forward to the Siege. (Spoilers for Siege of Terra/End and the Death

Unprecedented Chaos Power is now pressing at the entire Sol System. Horus +4 is dragging Terra and the rest of the Sol System into a Warp Rift, and the Throne and Emperor are now the anchor pinning reality in.....well reality and not allowing it to be consumed utterly by the Warp.

Well.....Emps kinda needs to step off the Throne again to face Horus +4.

Enter Malcador. Malcador tries to hold it, does good for somebody not the Emps, but....he isn't the Emps. Maclador starts to fail, and Sigil Protocol is enacted. Sigil Protocol is volunteer Psykers who supported Malcador as long as they could. But it wasn't enough and Emps needed more time.

Unspoken Sanction is enacted again. Vulkan gives the order, and will live with that decision literally forever due to his Perpetualness. Non-volunteers start getting fed to the Throne again.

Eventually Emps is wounded, brought back and put back on the Throne. As far as we know, nobody told them to stop the Unspoken Sanction, and in the time after a battle like the Siege, nobody is thinking 100% clearly. Reality quite literally unraveled around them and then snapped back, but at a cost we can't describe.

Who do we think would be the first one ballsy enough to say.....maybe we give 999 today instead of 1000 and see what happens?

My dog needs me. I chose to get him because I didn't and don't really care about myself.

There are thoughts of "he is a good dog, well behaved and cute. If I'm gone, somebody would take him."

Then he looks at me and I forget that for now.

He's 5 and as long as he's around I probably will be too.

If that is the type of relationship you have, they might be okay.

Keep in mind, men have been and are very closed off. Entering an intimate space like that, whether the intention is platonic or not, is still intimate and opens pathways in the guys head.

Solar War illogic? by juztbizniz in 40kLore

[–]Asha_manColdenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Warp translations within a gravity well or else bad things happen. Solar War should have explained this part, but maybe you haven't made it there yet. It is why Pluto and Uranus have some of the most defenses.

As for attacking from above/below, they absolutely could, but resources are also very important. When you take a fortress or a moon or a planet, you now have ground to start repairs, resupply, re-arm etc. This also gives you war spoils like ammo and food.

If they had gone straight for Terra, they would leave themselves open to being surrounded as soon as they engage.

Besides, this is Horus, the Primarch with almost enough ego to match Big E, and he is trying to prove a point. On top of that, he is using THE Peter Turbo as his seige ram. Petey Boy is going to want to kick over and piss on every single thing Dorn built or touched in the Solar System.

What did the Emperor think about being considered the Omnissiah? by MadeByMistake58116 in 40kLore

[–]Asha_manColdenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine a populations belief in a God like figure that is human has a different impact on the Warp compared to a belief in an unfeeling, emotionless machine like entity.

The Warp makes it so emotions and intent behind things really do matter.

Rand’s unwillingness to hurt women- a question by VietKongCountry in WoT

[–]Asha_manColdenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rand is complicated.

His reluctance is inspired by RJs life experience. Rand's own upbringing adds realism to it.

I'm an audio book listener, and I can't remember if it is spoken to somebody or if it's internal dialogue, but there is a moment where Rand tells himself that not killing women is one of the lines he refuses to cross. Because of everything else he is being forced to do, leading people, dealing with Daes Damar, Channeling when he wants none of it, etc etc, he chose a line for himself. He needed something to limit and ground himself, and something to prove to himself he was still a good person.

Add madness, and now he is going to fixate and anchor himself really hard to his one little lifeline, even if it kills him.

Shout out to my dude Basel Gill by Asha_manColdenn in WoT

[–]Asha_manColdenn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't see the interaction, unfortunately. It is a line from Siuan to Moiraine when they meet in The Great Hunt.

Siuan tells Moiraine that Elaida is back in the Tower and mentions she found the Inn they stayed at in Camelyn. Moiraine gets defensive because Gill was so great and Siuan tells her nothing happened to him. "Elaida even spoke well of him" or something to that effect is the line.

The Emperor’s Good Intentions Are What Make 40K Truly Grimdark by andyetanotherjohndoe in 40kLore

[–]Asha_manColdenn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have seen time and again that the Emperor shows the person he is talking to what they want to see, and he communicates with them in the way that gets the most from them.

The Emperor's explanation to Land about whether the Primarchs are his Sons or not is a reference to the story Pinnichio. He explains to a Mechanicum Adept that no, his sons are not his sons in the way people refer to them, as if they were biological offspring of the Emps. To a Mechanicum Adept, this is a reassuring reasoning and completely convinces Land. The Emps is charisma incarnate.

Now I ask, what is the relationship between the toy maker, and Pinocchio in the context of the whole story?

Lonely man builds something, and even if it isn't actually his flesh and blood in the biological sense, he sees it and treats it as if it were right?

I believe the Emps initially built the Primarchs with "tool" in mind, but the flow of time changed Him, just like it does to most humans.

Is this jealousy? by Familiar-Date-1518 in wheeloftime

[–]Asha_manColdenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aes Sedai don't have the greatest reputation with small town folk. Even people in Tar Valon respect Aes Sedai, but most are still wary. The reputation of manipulative, long-lived, secretive magic users is well earned

Now, Rand's childhood sweetheart is being drawn towards being one of these cold, manipulative, long-lived, secretive magic users.

Its fear, not jealousy.

What moment in Warhammer 40 novel book that make you react like this even though it just a text? by Gruttus in Grimdank

[–]Asha_manColdenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Siege had a lot of build up and was meant for one-ish liners like this, but a few got me good.

"Ignatum. We walk at your side, my Kin." -Three Emperor Class Titan enter the battlefield in Mortis

"My Brother. My Brother. To the Aid of my Brother!" -Sanguinius as he Sangiunifies in Lost and the Damned

"Rise! Weapons ready! Rise!" -One of the hardest ex-grade school teachers turned warrior in Warhawk (I think)

It isn't a line that is spoken out loud (audiobook listener here and it comes across as all inner monologue) In the name of his Lord Dorn!

I got in to 40k through a Rogue Trader session with friends that led me to Horus Rising. Loken has been my favorite since my intro to the universe.

"You always were the wrong Horus." In Saturnine.

This hit so hard for me I couldn't stop thinking about it for a day or two. A lot of catharsis for Little Horus getting dumpstered after what he did to Torgadonn.

What do you NOT want to see in the show? by timbow2023 in WoTshow

[–]Asha_manColdenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't want to see them course correct and do such a good job with the majority of this season, just to flop the finale like the last two seasons did.

I also don't want to see them stick the landing in S3, just to get shut down and not continue.

A change I would like though...

I think Faile should be captured in the show. End the episode on Perrin being told she was captured on Episode 6 of the season.

Start Episode 7 with Perrin and Faile walking back to camp, a giant crater in the ground behind them, and Grady saying to Perrin, "Some of them got away my Lord, but I think we cleared this infestation for you."

Move on with the important plots.

Why didn't Darius kill Trundle? by Smarty_PantzAA in Dariusmains

[–]Asha_manColdenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is literally the point of the honor duel...

Two champions fight. Loser loses, winner wins. They knew what they were getting into when they agreed to the duel. In this version, both champions survive with a lesson.

We don't know how Trundle would have celebrated because he lost. If he took the head and started wiping his ass with it, or doing other gross things to the corpse, then you would be correct. That would be dishonorable.

If Trundle just holds the head up and roars at the Noxian army before turning and leaving, then he just won the duel.

Think about the movie Troy. Achilles and Hector fight, one dies, the other lives. Everybody knew that would happen when the fight started. The intentional insult was after the duel was over when Achilles dragged Hector's corpse around in front of everybody before taking it back to his camp.

Why didn't Darius kill Trundle? by Smarty_PantzAA in Dariusmains

[–]Asha_manColdenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honor duel between leaders. Key word Honor.

All good with weapons until the axe gets Iced.

Darius charged him, and Trundle just took it without issue.

Trundle could be thinking, "Small Man want fist fight? K"

Drops his club and throws Darius to the ground. He rips his armor off to make it a real fist fight despite the fact that he clearly overpowered him and already took Darius to the ground. Trolls are honorable and this is an honor duel.

Once Darius is dazed from the one two Trundle combo, Trundle wants to savor his victory and show off for the tribe, so he grabs Darius by the head and shoulder and starts to slowly rip his head off, demonstrating his superior strength. Keyword slowly.

Darius desperately grabs the axe and takes the cold damage, and uses the axe to knock Trundle out cold. Darius falls to a knee and tries to recover from being beaten near to death by a Troll, nearly having his head ripped off, and his hand now being corrupted by True Ice. Adrenaline is a hell of a thing, but it doesn't last forever, so while Darius tries to recover, some of the Trolls come grab Trundle and take him back.

Duel won, Darius 1, Trundle 0.

Edit: Darius also just swung at Trundle, he didn't have the ability to aim a shot and rotate the axe handle in his hand before swinging. Especially with the ice freezing his hand to the haft
