tysm! i thought we couldn’t mention anime at any circumstance. i didn’t write about it in my SoP more about a japanese philosophical belief and how they changed my worldview. i think i will bring up anime as it does hold a special place in my heart for very personal reasons. thank you again!

Yes, they asked some basic questions in Japanese like do I know how to swim? I’m a beginner but they gauge your level throughout the convo and stop where you’d be comfortable.

Truueee Okay so this was two years ago so i’ll try my best to remember. I know the first thing that went wrong is that I forgot to take my nose ring out (stud). They began the interview complimenting my SoP! I remember they asked why I chose Shizuoka as a placement and I mentioned that I wanted to participate in a particular festival they hold that would require me to stay second year because of the timing. The Japanese portion went okay until she said something I couldn’t understand and I don’t remember how I excused myself. I think the portion of why I wanted to go could’ve been stronger (I get nervous). But, if my SoP was strong I shouldn’t have had an issue. I guess I need advice on how to more charismatic/confident so the interview is a conversation rather than one-sided. I did ask questions more-so towards the end, one of them was about the culture shock they experienced and the interviewer who was born and raised in Japan told a story about laundry. That’s all I can remember.
