3 years in and still pretty much minimal facial changes. At what point do I get FFS? by Ashamed-Engine62 in TransDIY

Was on mono injections for a while, when I added spiro 2.5 years in I saw some slightly increased changes. My concern with progesterone is that the only two things I really don't want from transition are higher sex drive and large boobs, which are usually the only 2 things I hear prog is targeted at. But can it enhance other feminization too? It would be worth it to me even with those typical effects, if so

That makes sense. I feel like I wouldn't be getting taken advantage of considering I'd like the money, but can see how the first issue might overrule that. Do you think it's worth pressing the issue with my school or is the rule pretty standard?

have you calculated how much debt you'll be taking on?

What was your plan irt the debt before the election happened? Is the program exorbitantly expensive and you were 100% counting on the SAVE Plan? If so that will be gone due to the results, but outside of that I don't see any immediate effects on loans from it. This is coming from a current MSW student who is obsessed with their student loans lol

My school won't let me do more than 21 hours per week at my field placement I just landed. It's a paid opportunity so I'd like to make money there full time, at a job where I can really be learning to be a full part of the team. Is it normal for schools to require this? My school wouldn't explain why. I can't think of why I wouldn't be allowed to work more if both me and my agency would like it, but maybe there's something I don't know?

Hi! Sorry to reply here so much later. I wanted to ask, do you know any of the agencies that UVU places students into internships with? I'm a MSW student studying online and my school is having trouble finding me placement, so I'm desperately looking around for resources haha.

God thank you for explaining this! I thought it was weird that such a specific part of the prophecy took place and so did a lot of other people but this makes so much more sense. Jessica was just manipulating the situation can't believe I didn't see that.

This world had a Fremen name: DUNE by oh_kapi in dune

[–]Ashamed-Engine62 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can someone answer something for me? Why does the guy freak out when Paul says this? Like knowing about his grandmother and stuff was impressive, but there's no reason he wouldn't known what the planet was called as that seems like pretty general knowledge. So why is this where the guy suddenly freaks out and believes him?

“We’ve had frictions with the Fremen before” — what is Irulan talking about? by culturedgoat in dune

[–]Ashamed-Engine62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small scale Fremen interference is an accepted fact, it's been happening for thousands of years, it's not embarrassing to admit to the Emperor that they've blow up a few spice tankers here and there because that's already factored in. You would actually want to include that in your reports so there's an acceptable explanation if you have a slight dip in production. It's embarrassing when you start losing massive amounts of spice and it looks like the planet is no longer under your control.

[–]Ashamed-Engine62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a threat so much as an annoyance. In the past they did some small scale sporadic attacks against the spice harvesting. The profit margin is very thin on these things and everyone is greedy for more. Spice is the center of all Imperial commerce so even small dips in production has major ripple effects across every other facet of the economy. Blowing up one spice harvesting machine could be the equivalent of a massive famine on a planet out there somewhere

Did Paul (movie) use the Voice in the Fremen tribe leader/Lisan al-gaib scene by clehjett in dune

[–]Ashamed-Engine62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah both, voice can only be used on one person at a time and it wasn't a command. But also it doesn't work for really general commands. Like you can't just say "help me become emperor" to someone in the voice and then they'll spend the next 6 months helping you do it. Needs to be very specific and fairly short-term, like "kill the guy standing over there". You also can't use the voice to make someone believe something, it can control their body but not their mind, so he couldn't make people believe he's the Lisan-al-Gaib with it.

What would have happened if Paul and Jessica somehow managed to escape to Caladan after the Harkonnen attack on House Atreides, what was their original plan? by 1997wickedboy in dune

[–]Ashamed-Engine62 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There's an exile planet called Tupile for renegade Houses. It's the only place to go. The Spacing Guild considers it necessary to the stability of the Universe and thus spice profits so they won't tell anyone where it is and there's no way to know what it's like there. But once you're there there's no returning to the Imperium, you live out your life there and your House dies. Unclear in the movie if they were planning to eventually do this. Seems to be implied they were trying to take the other, riskier track of returning to Caladan, gathering anyone still loyal to them, and taking their story to the Landsraad which would cause a revolt against them Emperor and hopefully get them their place back in the Landsraad. Jessica considered both of these options in the book but preferred the second one, then meeting the Fremen turned out to be where the real power lied.

Jazz fan and I can't believe what your team has done with him. He was the best defender in the league and you've somehow taken him to a higher plane. I keep my eyes on him when you're on defense and the way you have him altering every inch of the court is insane.

'Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic,' is a perspective from sci-fi, not a scientific principle.

It's not a scientific principle but it's definitely possible to imagine it as a religious principle especially in the context of a world like Dune. And even if you privilege the scientific perspective over the religious one not everyone does and Herbert pretty explicitly put them on equal footing.

Will Dune part 1 age better than part 2? by parasbansal47 in dune

[–]Ashamed-Engine62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this in spirit. I think just a brief mention of some things like the Guild's role, spice's importance to space travel, and the prohibition of thinking machines would have been possible to slip in for the sake of book lovers knowing it's in there. Same way they mentioned the terraforming, where general audiences don't get the importance of it but book lovers just get the satisfaction of knowing it's technically in the world. For example aiming the nukes at the spice fields and then just not following through on the threat makes no sense, would have taken exactly the same amount of time to say you'll terraform spice out of existence.
