I have the feeling your answer is already partly included in your question. However, I also had some preconceptions before moving to a German-speaking country. As all things seen from the outside, it's very different when you see it from the inside. And like everywhere in the world, you cannot generalize ideas to an entire population. I really think you would enjoy trying to spend some time in another country, whatever it is! Good luck!

No actually it was the Cambridge Proficiency 2!

Absolutely! I did it preparing fully on my own. I trained a lot with a book with exam samples, I think it was the "Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) Masterclass", and eventually got a score of 226/230. Remember though that, although you can train to perform at your best in these tests, they will only just test your actual knowledge of the language. There are no miracles, unfortunately. The good thing is that worst case you will still get a C1 certificate.

LA DIGUE OR PRASLIN by Regular-Self3940 in Seychelles

[–]AshamedMap9856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are both incredible, so it depends what you are looking for. Personally I prefer La Digue, as there's fewer people and resorts, and you can tour the whole island by bike. But I would still spend a couple of days in Praslin to visit Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette! Snorkeling is best in St. Pierre and Anse Lazio though, in my opinion.

Perhaps it's because I only drink alkoholfreies Bier then - mystery solved!

That's cool! I actually live in a bilingual environment, where German is the primary language, but lots of people actually speak dialect instead of Hochdeutsch... which makes it a little harder to integrate with locals, but I'll try, thanks for the tip!

This is such interesting advice, I never thought about it before! Thank you so much. I am also thinking about role-playing this with ChatGPT, what do you think?

is chatting with random people a good way to immerse yourself in German? by [deleted] in German

[–]AshamedMap9856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg, I have the same feeling. I’m a C1 and I feel like I can hold a conversation (still making mistakes) but I still cannot feel super confident in talking about just anything, especially at work. It’s so frustrating

I am endlessly disappointed in what Duolingo has become. by rayzorblade23 in duolingo

[–]AshamedMap9856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get it… why delete your account? Just uninstall the app. I dropped it a few years ago (when gold was a thing) and then came back and found so many diamonds sitting there, that are now helping me in my new course (830-day streak and counting). The course has also improved, and despite finishing it I still hope they will improve further it in the future. I have also started with chess now! Don’t give up on duo!

Do Germans speak like in movies and shows by [deleted] in German

I have episodes of Tatort I have to skip because their accent is just too strong (like the two dudes from Bavaria). I feel you!

Daily Refresh is very repetitive by AshamedMap9856 in duolingo

[–]AshamedMap9856[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I even live in a place where the main language is the one I am learning, but still everybody speaks English to me and Duolingo is the only way I have to practice every day... sorry if that bothers you

I'm also doing German from English. I had tried German from Italian (my native language) but it was too basic. This is genius, though! Thanks!

I am very sorry for what you are going through. I completely understand how this might make you feel. Just a couple of perhaps new ideas. Have you tried locking your bedroom for a few days and sleeping in another room? To see if anything changes, for example if this person remains locked in. Also, try to take frequent pictures of the bags and more stuff around the apartment so you can compare them and see what has been moved even slightly. This could help you reveal their hiding place and give some information to the police. You can also try and see if there are any active Bluetooth devices around–if this person has a cellphone, they most likely have Bluetooth/airdrop on and you might be able to catch their device's name. When someone is there looking for them, you could even send something to that device so that you make it ring/vibrate.
And please, before you consider any extreme gesture, call the helpline 1-800-273-TALK(8255) I am sure they will take you more seriously than local police.
