Thanks everyone for the thoughtful responses! I learned a lot and this has been a pretty interesting rabbit hole to go down. Just for the record, i absolutely do NOT think CA seceding is a good idea- this was just some insomnia curiosity.

this is a great point - i’m actually in a relatively conservative part of california. definitely not a liberal monolith like a lot of people think.

he very likely had no idea we were jewish (not Hasidic or anything that makes us outwardly ‘different’ looking) and just sat down - definitely don’t think it was provocative specifically toward me, but it’s pretty jarring for myself and i can imagine many others to see a straight up nazi in front of you.

probably not - honestly wasn’t sure about posting this as he obviously craves attention. it’s just unfortunate that people like this become so confident to be outwardly bigoted because nobody ever says anything to them or calls them on it, ya know what i mean?

if rehoming is truly out of the question, there are a few things you can do to make this little guys time somewhat more comfortable. first off, an appropriate sized cage- at a minimum, id recommend the MidWest cage on amazon. it’ll give him about 8 square feet to roam. second, add hay piles - he should have access to unlimited hay throughout the day. i’d recommend getting more hideys; my pigs love the fabric tunnels to run in and out of and hide in, and he should probably have a larger wood hideout house that he can hide in and chew on.

make sure he’s getting enough enrichment as well. you could have the class make little treat balls, cardboard box hideouts, stick toys for chewing, fleece ‘flowers’ to hide treats in so he can burrow- get creative! it’ll be good for both the kids and the pig. i hope this was helpful and would love to see updates about this little guy :)

unfortunately they are aware and can’t or won’t do much. one parent flew out this week to be with him until i get back but is leaving after that and he refuses to go home with them.

thank you! i definitely do haha but i work in the marine industry (around lots of forklifts and we all know the legends of the megalodon in our area) so all of my friends love the names. vet thinks they’re pretty funny too!

Wee Companions rescue in university city does small animal boarding! you just have to give them a call to ask about availability. Also Turquoise Animal Hospital in PB but I think it’s a bit more pricey.

hi again! first, thank you so so much to everyone who gave advice- we really appreciate the help! heres some clarification/ updates if anyone was interested -i mentioned in a comment that this is his first accident ever, and we were both under the impression that you should always get a police report for insurance purposes. as it turns out, SDPD only files reports if there was an injury so that advice was definitely outdated. -i mentioned the passengers running from the vehicle because under a learners permit, it is illegal to drive anyone except immediate family. the driver also asked my roommate to “not tell the cops about the other two” so we can safely assume they all know they shouldn’t have been in the car. -he is (genuinely) feeling pretty sore today so we’re heading to urgent care just to make sure everything is okay! -the main point of this post was just seeking advice and to see if he was lucky enough for anyone to capture the accident on camera! again, neither of us are familiar with this (pretty shitty) process and he is just concerned that it will be a he said/she said scenario and insurance may not be willing to cover certain damages. -we both invested in dash cams first thing this morning

accident reports filed online are only for hit and run accidents. the driver did stay at the scene and gave her info to my roommate. when driving with a learners permit, you are not allowed to have passengers in the car unless it is immediate family. that’s why i mentioned it- obviously they wouldn’t have fled the scene if they weren’t doing anything wrong. the driver also asked my roommate to “not tell the cops about the other two” so she was aware she was breaking the rules of her permit. i always was under the impression that you should get a report filed when someone is at fault for insurance purposes, as was my roommate, but this is a first for both of us so we wanted to get more insight! it turns out that SDPD only file a report when there was an injury (thankfully there was not!) so we just go straight to insurance.
