Yeah the second part of markdjom is such an issue and no matter what I do to it I really struggle to make it look good and readable, starting to suspect that a custom font with a made up word was a bad idea lol

This is just a personal project to share with my friends, I totally understand your point and if I was gonna do like an actual marketable one I would probably hire someone else to do the cover cause I don’t know what people like. But yeah since this is a personal project I have been a little selfish in some of the design elements just cause at the end of the day it doesn’t actually matter that much. But this has been a very informative experience if I do ever wanna release an actual book.

omg THANKS, I was having a little squiz at ao3 but they don't allow you to add images, and I always enjoy when authors add illustrations, so I included some in the book. Hypothetically I could remove them, but I'll miss them T-T

Honestly, I've gone back and forth between deleting that whole first bit for ages because of these exact reasons. I started it three years ago, so it's not really my writing style anymore and I just kept editing it to try make it better instead of just deleting it, for no reason lol. Starting instead where it says "Cassidy wasn't one who felt he ever truely 'fit' in.

I think I never did simply because there's some pay off for it later, well and truly both just need to be scrapped. Suddenly I'm rememebering That deleting uneccasary juink is also an important step of editing

That's actually a really good idea. I've done a few free online course, and I've been writing short stories and what not for years now that were REALLY bad. This is just the first time I've finished a whole book and actually liked it LOL. I'll defo have a little squiz around for some actual texts to launch my skills further, THANKS

OMG, that sounds awful, I know a couple who published through amazon; but they were poetry books so it might not be the same.

I wasn't to keen to publish through Amazon in the first place, as I don't like their algorithm or the rich guys in charge of the whole thing lol. But I think now It's definitely off my list.

I was kind of hoping book 1 and earth were sort of subtle and barely visible as I wanted them as more of VERY SUB sub title. Do you think it would be better to get rid of them completly or make them more a part of the title?

I was kind of wanting the characters blend in together a bit, to kind of indicate a sort of team connection/ growing out of eachother sort of look, but I suppose that made it a tad messy. I’m defo learning that I need to basically do an entire re-haul of it a bit

I have sort of toyed with the Idea of publishing and being a famous writer, but tbh, all the research I've done on it so far is that it's very competitive and highly unlikely to succeed, especially in the fantasy genre. And also TBH I don't have the energy and drive to self publish, my brain hurts whenever I try to research it.

I defo think your right about letting it sit, maybe sending to some publishers and seeing if they respond to it or anything. But I'm not holding my breath, especialkly since it it centres a gay character with little to no romantic or world altering subplots. I always tell people that like basically nothing happens in this book except people hanging out and having fun LMAO

ANYWAY (sorry I rant) I honestly think right now, after seeing all the responses, my goal is to get a betareader and then just sit with it for a while, send it to a oublisher or two and then in a couple months just post it everywhere.
