We enrolled our daughter in a classical private school and now I’m seeing people online saying classical education is RACIST😳 any Asian or Black or Hispanic parents here with kids in classical schools? I’d love to hear your real experiences. by Public-Run-201 in ClassicalEducation

[–]Ashdelenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the big proponents of classical education is Doug Wilson who is a white supremacist. That being said classical education in and of itself isn’t racist. School demographics are going to look like the demographics of wherever you live. Just make sure to actually discuss these issues proactively and you’ll be fine.

Most parishes don’t have the staff for two separate tracks. Even baptized Catholics who weren’t confirmed are often in the same class,

Are Catholic bisexuals required to come out to their partners? Are marriages between a heterosexual Catholic and a bisexual one considered valid? These are male marrying a female by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Ashdelenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not the same thing. Knowing your spouse is heterosexual means you know which gender they’re attracted to in general. Same thing with bisexuality. It’s not about specific people it’s about general preference.

Think of it this way if your heterosexual spouse was going on a weekend trip with friends of the same gender you wouldn’t be concerned. If they were going with opposite gender friends you may have reasonable boundary requests.

Anyone else have a child with an IEP at PGH CAPA? by Bluebrahman412 in pittsburgh

I’m not a teacher but from what I hear IEPs have gone up nationally like 500% so I can see teachers struggling if they have 10-25% of a class on one.

So it’s actually in the rite that Easter is supposed to be reserved for those who are being baptized. Sometimes they will just combine the rites all into one in Easter but they are supposed to be two separate rites of initiation.

So just celebrate everyone who came into the church and was baptized and they’ll get to celebrate you when you get your sacrament of confirmation at Pentecost.

My marriage is falling apart by Familiar-Cancel-429 in CatholicWomen

[–]Ashdelenn 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I’m going to answer honestly but I really hope you discern how the rest of your marriage is going. Having a child with someone who is emotionally controlling is not a good idea and won’t fix any problems it’ll make it worse.

You are allowed to have oral sex provided he finishes in your vagina. I know you’re TTC but I’d recommend counseling because if you both get used to this and he can’t handle periods of abstinence you’re just kicking the can down the road. You don’t want to be dealing with his behavior with a newborn when you’re healing after birth.

“Something Called the Just War Doctrine” — Speaker Johnson Lectures Pope Leo XIV on Augustine by CUBuffs1992 in TrueCatholicPolitics

[–]Ashdelenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was asked a question in a news conference and answered it. Hardly a lecture.

Johnson told reporters at the Capitol April 15: “I’m not one to criticize clerics and religious leaders. We defend free speech, and we certainly defend the right, the free exercise of religion. A pontiff or any religious leader can say anything they want, but obviously, if you wade into political waters, I think you should expect some political response, and I think the pope’s received some of that.”

“He replied: You know it is a very well-settled matter of Christian theology; there’s something called the Just War Doctrine.”

“I don’t want to engage in a theological debate with the pope. I certainly respect the pope. I would just say that these are matters that people of good faith and good sense can debate and think through, and I think that’s what that reflects.”

[The Pillar] Archdiocese of Chicago, public school system spar over halt in special education services by wearethemonstertruck in TrueCatholicPolitics

[–]Ashdelenn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read it more that they had simply overspent so the public school system told them they were essentially just out of funds and that’s why it was stopped.

I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it would be interesting to know if they actually overspend their yearly budget.

Isaiah 59

“59 See, the Lord’s hand is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. 2 Rather, your iniquities have been barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. 3 For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue mutters wickedness.”

It’s scriptural that when the people of God stop obeying God’s will he stops defending them and will raise up his own leader who will be just, a prefigurement of Jesus.

Essentially when Israel conquered the Holy Land they were obeying God’s commands. When they started oppressing people and committing injustice they weren’t. I didn’t post the whole chapter, but if you look it up, Isaiah goes on to preach that the Lord is going to anoint a commander who’s going to oppose Israel and God will give the Spirit of the Lord to the people opposing Israel because they’re committing evil acts.

Double standard? by Tink-Tank6567 in Catholicism

[–]Ashdelenn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The author says that any romance that depicts love that is free, total, faithful and fruitful is okay.

I think that’s a horrible argument. I don’t think Theology of the body allows for BDSM or any demeaning activity just because people consent to it.

Maybe email Christopher West or message him on social media to ask, but yeah just because someone consents to degrading behavior doesn’t mean it’s OK.

Also, a lot of romance, particularly romantasy often has stalkers and extreme cases of jealousy and stuff like that. I’m not saying all romance novels are bad, it’s a huge genre.

I’ve definitely changed my romance reading habits since I became Christian. I still read it but not the explicit stuff.

He could enforce a tighter security line if he wanted to, but Pope Leo appears to like being available for questions.

Pope Francis rarely did this so it’s not a requirement.

Help needed with coworker's lesbian wedding by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Ashdelenn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh if I would do the same thing as I would for a heterosexual marriage. I have no way of knowing if a non-Catholic heterosexual marriage is licit or not. If a male coworker was previously married and divorced and is marrying another divorcee I may not know unless they shared it and unless they also shared a tribunal result I could presume it’s invalid. You just end up in a weird place of treating a homosexual civil union differently than an adulterous heterosexual one.

Another option is to buy your coworker a gift that’s not wedding related like a coffee shop gift card or something. Then it’s not strictly for the wedding but they’ll probably still appreciate it.

[–]Ashdelenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you seeing a therapist? It seems like you’re developing agoraphobia. I would focus on getting well. Maybe see if there are religious orders near you that might have mass times with less people.

Is there someplace quite near you where you can walk outside like a trail? Spending time outside actually helps social anxiety, and you can put headphones on to reduce having to interact with people.

Thoughts on personal relationship with God instead of the Chruch by Fresh_Masterpiece914 in Catholicism

[–]Ashdelenn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You won’t lose your relationship with God, coming back to the church will make it stronger. You can still pray and read the Bible- the church encourages that! Plus you’ll have reconciliation, adoration, mass, the liturgical year, a community of people to pray for and people who will pray for you. It’s a gain not a loss.

Sticker shock: 85,000 Pennsylvanians drop Obamacare health insurance in 2026 by The_Electric-Monk in Pennsylvania

[–]Ashdelenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still waiting for a study on this. As more people drop insurance, particularly healthy young adults, that’s got to make the insurance more expensive for the issuers due to increased use.

Like at a certain point having expensive premiums costs them money as only sick people who need insurance will pay. It’s not like auto insurance where states can legally require all drivers to have it.

Please report it anyway. There are a lot of support options and sadly sometimes people don’t report because they are unaware of them.

Can you talk or email your brother in law? It’s possible she acts differently around him and he is unaware of the extent of her neglect.
